Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaNot built for tall people. All doorway heights are very low.
Great to stay in a beautiful traditional Japanese house in a residential neighbourhood.

JapanFeedback to the hosts - some spices / condiments in the kitchen would be nice, like soy sauce, salt, oil. If you're staying just one or two nights, you won't buy that stuff but then you can't fry an egg in the am, etc. Thank you so much for your consideration!
Great quiet place to hang with your family when you are biking on Shimanami Kaido. They lend you a nifty little car so you can buy groceries and then BBQ on the small gas grill that you can use. We went during good weather, but it might be a bit cold in the winter.

MauritiusEverything was perfect except that my little girl forgot her camera on the small staircase between the garden and the house, near the outdoor air conditioning units. I hope the property manager who finds it can send it to us by mail — we’ll cover all the costs.
Great traditional Japanese home in a great location. The home is spacious, very quiet and well equipped. It is in the middle of the Shimanami Kaido Cycling road so it is ideal to explore it. They provide a small car to cover the 300 meters long road to bring your luggage since the road is too narrow. We found it quite fun to drive.

This is the perfect place to stay while visiting the islands on the Shimanami Kaido. It is very comfortable, spacious, clean, and stylish. The house and the surrounding area are very charming.

CanadaI'm 1.86m (6'11") and I had to pay attention to not hit doorways and beams.
Stayed there while cycling the Shimanami Kaidou. Very spacious traditional house, with a great backyard for dogs. They even have a grooming table and dog bed for those that bring their pets. There are laundry facilities and a comfortable living room. If you don't bring food, there are a few choices to buy in place (enough for a couple, not for a family).

NetherlandsSplendid house that we stayed during our Shimanami Kaido cycling mini-trip. Nicely renovated; softest futons we’ve ever slept on; having a washer and dryer was a plus, especially mid-cycling adventure. I can only imagine how nice the stay would be for dogs and their humans — there are so many amenities, from backyard to sofa steps!

AustraliaThe location is a little inconvenient as there are few restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The instructions to get to the rental car could have been clearer, although we were able to find it in the end.
Accommodation had a lot of space and was well-stocked with amenities. The beds were extremely comfortable and the attention to detail to decorations was cute. This property also provides a rental car which was greatly appreciated for getting around. The host was also very responsive to questions.

AustraliaThis was one of the best accommodations we've ever stayed in. We stayed overnight as a halfway point for our riding of the Shimanami Kaido. Everything was clean and clearly labelled. The futons were the most comfortable we've stayed on. The bath was also great. The towels were soft and fluffy. There was a washer and drier which was very convenient. There was even a first aid kit which was very useful as one of our members had an injury. We didn't have a dog, nut there were so many extra facilities for digs including a grooming station. There was even Netflix on the TV. It was a remote location, but we prepared beforehand by buying food and heating it up at the house. There's a BBQ you can rent if you let the host know beforehand. The host also owns a nearby popular lemon themed store called Limone. It's a lovely store which we would highly recommend stopping by. Owner surprised us with a box of puppies in the store which she had saved from being slaughtered. Would love to stay here again!

AustraliaLimited cooking equipment and no salt, pepper or oil, let alone a pan to cook with! They wanted to charge 3850 Yen for the use of a BBQ. Most properties provide use for free. Only 1 tea bag and coffee bag for person per day. Too bad if you want more than 1 coffee The toilet is old and doesnt smell or operate that well The basic dried noodle and drinks contained in property have a premium charge to them. Simply not value for money when you consider other AirBnbs we stayed - when the second bedroom is a blind in one room

AustraliaAll remote checkin, no personal contact. The 2 bedroom was really 1 large bedroom with a flimsy partition. Online ID check-in process did not work for us.
It was a nice house, old style Japanese, well appointed and comfortable. In an old rural village that was an interesting glimpse into life in rural Japan. Responded quickly to emails and provided quick troubleshooting with our check-in problem
