Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ItalyThe ceremony/meditation in the morning was a little bit too much of a construed 'experience' for me. It was very well done and gave an idea, but I admit I had expected more to partake in the spiritual life of the monastery. Probably, that was unrealistic and, with a small monastery (7 monks) and uninitiated, mostly foreign guests, this is as much as one can hope for.
Very friendly staff, beautiful and historical location and grounds, absolutely fabulous dinner and breakfast, really nice and spacious tatami room with futons. Small but nice onsen bathing facility. Possibility to partake in circa 1 hour ceremony/meditation early morning, which was well very organized and accessible, with seating, communication in English on screens, and a 'varied' program (chant, sutra reading, incense ceremony, meditation).

PolandAside from the rather high price, everything else was excellent. It's a unique experience, not to be confused with a stay in a typical hotel. The food is amazing, and every detail is meticulously attended to. Anyone who knows why they're coming here will be delighted.

BelgiumFrom the reception to the checkout, everything was perfect. The monks were friendly and extremely helpful as well as being discrete. The complex is set back from the road so it is really peaceful. Dinner is served around 17:30 and is absolutely delicious. You are in a private room screened off from the other guests. The dinner is a highlight of the stay in Koya-san. I would just advise that this experience is not really recommended for younger kids and teenagers with limited food options. Dressing up in a yukata may be fun but a 9pm curfew and peaceful atmosphere isn't conducive to rest and relaxation either for them or the other guests. If you intend to do the night tour of the cemetery just remember the curfew. In summer nightfall is around 7:30. Before breakfast we participated in the morning service with everything explained in English A unique experience on Koya-san and an interesting insight into Buddhist practice.

United StatesHad a run in with a spider, but the staff is super helpful and know what to do!
Enjoyed the process and surrounding beauty. We checked in super early to open arms and settled into our spacious room which included an amazing tub with a view of the forest. It is located near a famous manju store that we enjoyed immensely, and also close to Okunoin while being tucked away in a peaceful setting. The dining experience was great and I can compare it to another more costly temple I experienced before too. Especially enjoyed the morning prayer because it sums it all up for you. If you add the Okunoin night tour you will not regret it!

United StatesThis is a small thing, but our visit was at a time when the area was snowy which we didn't expect. Other than the dining areas and private rooms the temple was very very cold and so our shoes at the front were not able to dry off.
This was a beautiful temple in Koya San and a truly memorable stay! Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our private room and loved staying in a traditional japanese room. The meals served (both dinner and breakfast) were excellent and beautifully presented. The temple ceremony in the morning was also very nice. Though it was extremely cold during our visit our room was very cozy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend as this was a truly special experience.

AustraliaThe tranquility and atmosphere of this temple stat was extraordinary. We were so privileged to experience the morning meditation and enjoy the grounds. The dinner and breakfast was unique and beautifully presented. The taste of each element was exquisite. We also did a night walk through the cemetery and the village of Mount Koyasan the next day. Thank you for such a serene experience and welcoming us into your temple.
