The hotel is very convenient for the main station and transport into town. Rooms, beds and facilities were a very good standard and exceptional value for money. We paid extra for the "viking breakfast" (smorgasbord!) which was very good and set us up for the day.

Oddly, the room was on the warm side (stretch of warm weather before I arrived?) and the air conditioning had been turned off, so turning on the AC just turned on the heater. Next, I tried to open the windows, but the windows were jammed so I had to ask staff for assistance (which they provided with a smile). The facilities are on the old side, but still in good shape. Still, it could use some upgrading such as increasing the number of electrical sockets, moving to a digital key.

Location is great. It is about a block from the JR train station and local train (Iyotetsu). The facilities were clean. Staff helpful and friendly. Considering this is a small city that probably doesn't get a lot of foreign tourists, there was some English language support.

- the entire hotel itself is an antique, with round knob radio switches (not sure if it even works anymore). The decor, from the duvet cover, all the way to the furniture, electrical and bathroom fittings were all from the 1970s that haven’t been changed till to-date. - no electrical outlets around the bed area (and of course none of the available outlets have usb charging outlets either). - no full length mirror. You’re left to guess how you look. - no cold air conditioner. Only heater available (I stayed in mid-November). - no complimentary bottles of water - duvet doesn’t look like it’s been washed in the last 5 years. Saw some small blood stains on it. - pillow extremely flat

Plus points: - it’s located very near the JR station. - staff were nice and professional. - managed to open 2 full sized (28inch) luggages in the room after some manoeuvring - there was a pillow gallery (where you can go choose extra pillows)! The single most exciting thing of this ancient establishment.

If you're looking to continental breakfast, you might find the selection a bit limited, but the Japanese choices were excellent.

A great hotel located just behind Matsuyama Station. The room, staff, location and exceedingly reasonable prices made it a winner.

I am grateful to Tanaka san and Iseki san for their invaluable assistance in helping me to retrieve my lost item. They contacted the related department, explained my situation that I was unable to return and claim the item in person and arranged takkubin to send it to my last accommodation.
