Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe bamboo blinds let in a lot of light so that we were woken up at about 5am. It would make a big difference if the blinds blocked the light more effectively!
The location, very close to the train and coach stations, was extremely convenient. The staff were friendly. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious. The breakfast was very good.

NetherlandsThe hygienic standards of the private onsen’s were very questionable.
Hotel provides lots of free services for its guests (late night ramen service, Onsen, tea/coffee bar, shaved ice bar + ice cream). The breakfast also had lots of variety to pick and choose from!

SwitzerlandI may have glanced over that, and it really isn't an issue, but this hotel has different plans. Depending on your plan, more frequent cleaning will cost extra.
Excellent value! Really nice and spacious rooms. The futons lie on an extra mattress, making the introduction to them quite comfortable. Both the public hotspring and the private ones are really good and excellent to relax. Free food and sweets are also much appreciated:)

United KingdomTakayama was a lovely location to escape some of the more well-known cities and explore a more traditional feeling Japan. Previously known for its many sake distilleries, you can visit one of the seven remaining and learn about the full process whilst sampling many varieties! Some very nice local shops as well as lots of places to try Hida beef. The hotel was beautiful with a big reception, very large rooms and great facilities including free to use private onsen. If you want to try the private onsen you can do this without reservation in 30-minute slots, but avoid evenings as it gets very, very busy. We went at 15:00 and nobody was queuing, so the earlier the better! The hotel also offers free evening ramen between 21:00 - 22:00!

Netherlands- We only could park after 15:00 at the accomodation. We where there 14:00 and if we wanted to park 1 hour earlier we needed to pay the dubble amount. So we stayed for 1 hour at a parking garage for 200 yen.
- Friendly staff. - We could park the car for 1200 yen at the accommodation. - Room was big. Bed was comfortable. - Private onsen was oke.

NorwayHad a great stay with my two kids. Spacious room, and a fantastic onsen, both indoor and outdoor, which we used every day on our stay. One of our best stays on our holiday in Japan. The complimentary evening ramen was also great.

ItalyGreat breakfast and cleanliness. I liked that everybody had to take out their shoes in the traditional Japanese way and was given a sort of kimono to move around and go to the Onsen. The latter was not enormous but still pretty cool. Overall, the experience was refreshing and regenerative in the context of a very hectic tour of this beautiful country.

SpainWe booked two rooms (for two adults and two kids of 12 and 10 years), fully paid in advance, but I was told during check-in that I had to pay almost 7000 JPY there for the 10 years old kid
We loved our stay at Takayama Ouan Ryokan Hotel. The location is excellent, making it easy to explore Takayama, and the value for the price is outstanding. The onsen was a highlight — relaxing and beautifully maintained. Our room was immaculate and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with a great variety, and we especially enjoyed the free noodles at night and the snacks after the onsen. Highly recommended for a memorable stay in Takayama!

BrazilI just thought this would be more of a Ryokan and less than a hotel. It's actually a big hotel in a ryokan style, which doesn't make it bad. My expectations were somewhere else
Everything is great! The onsen experience, breakfest has many options of japanese and ocidental food, between 21h30 and 22h30 they served a complimentary ramen bowl. Really has everything you need
