Takimi Onsen Inn is a dream come true! Koike kindly came to pick us up after we completed a wonderfully atmospheric rain-soaked hike from Magome to Tsumago. Koike’s wife welcomed us so warmly and carefully dried our raincoats/socks and washed/dried/folded our sopping wet clothes. Our family of four felt so well taken care of here. The private inn was gorgeous, well-appointed and spacious. You just have to experience it for yourself. The inn felt like what sleeping at Fallingwater would be like. The two onsen facilities tucked in next to the waterfall was bliss. The food was delicious and nourishing and my picky kids cleaned their plates. 10/10 would recommend.

Staying at Takimi Onsen was a highlight of our trip. The setting was beautiful, we loved the onsen within sight and sound of the waterfall. The home was authentic, atmospheric, charming and comfortable. The transportation from Tsumago was convenient and on time. They were kind enough to drop us off at the train station the next day and even helped us purchase train tickets. The shabu shabu dinner was a sight to behold. We wished we could have stayed another day or two.

Takimi Onsen is amazing! This is the perfect place for a unique and authentic experience in the countryside. It includes a private onsen, private waterfall and we had 2 private bedrooms as well as a living room area with a balcony. The dinner and breakfast meals were amazing. The host was very accommodating and picked us up and dropped us off at the Nagiso train station and even brought out his fishing rod and let our son fish in the pond when he asked if he could fish. We stayed 2 nights and hiked the Nakasendo trail on our full day with a guided tour and he picked us up at the end as well. Our stay at Takimi Onsen was a highlight of our trip to Japan. I highly recommend staying here!

This property is in a beautiful setting in the forest. The onsen is amazing particularly the outdoor area which overlooks a beautiful waterfall. The owners were so kind and helpful and the evening meal was superb. Highly recommended.

We loved everything about our stay. It is an older house in a rural setting, but was a perfect way to spend the night after walking the Nakasendo. The food was delicious and the onsens were very nice, we soaked 4 times. The kids had a blast and was definitely one of our most memorable stays in Japan.

We had a lounge, bedroom, beautiful private Onsen. The setting is spectacular and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. He speaks fairly good English and is happy to pick you up and drop you off. The food was amazing - authentic, delicious, bountiful.

It’s a beautiful property with a great view of the waterfall. The onsen was great, and the homemade dinner with grilled fish was amazing! We enjoyed the tranquility of the place and the calm, intimate atmosphere. Highly recommend! The host kindly picked us up from the bus station and dropped the next day to the train station, which we really appreciated considering we didn’t have a car and the place is quite remote!

Onsen with snow falling in was just incredible. The food, the warm hospitality, and the white snow just completed the satisfaction of the stay. Everything is there.

The couple who operated the Ryokan were very attentive and went the extra the mile. The organised the walk we wanted to do, including dropping off and pick up. Food (breakfast and dinner) were excellent and we asked for the local Japanese food which was excellent. The scenery of the snow covered garden and waterfall was like a painting.

The view of a waterfall outside our window was serene. Our hosts treated us to a delicious kaiseki dinner and breakfast. We were able to use the bath at any time during our stay.

An exceptional stay if you want to feel the Japanese culture and hospitality. Everything was so well organised and thoroughly done. Onsen is just another level, you’ll never find the same. Dinner was also excellent ! This is truly a hidden gem !

The experience was excellent. Mr Koike and the staff were incredible hosts. The setting was magical. Takimi Onsen is in a forest with a waterfall right outside your door. The indoor and outdoor onsen worked perfectly. The dinner and breakfast were terrific.
