How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewTraditional hotel lodge in an excellent location in Shiga Kogan. 3 minute walk to the main ski lift. Loved the open fireplace and communal space. The large onsen was very nice after a day on the slopes. Welcoming and helpful staff. And extensive breakfast options. Easy walking to bars and restaurants. Ski hire equipment was new, high quality and great value.
Older style but warm and welcoming.

Verified reviewGreat family hotel in central and accessible part of the ski resort. A short walk to the nearest lift and ability to ski to front door at end of the day (after crossing the road).
Little variety in evening food options. It's a small hotel so you don't expect a huge menu, but one or two other things would really help.

Verified reviewThe rooms are a good size. Inside is a little dated but it is clean and suited out needs. Staff were wonderful, very attentive to all our needs. The quality of ski equipment for hire was excellent, and we were able to book a ski lesson with one of the staff members. This proved to be very beneficial.
Only option for bedding was single beds.

Not a great deal of dinner options near by.

Verified reviewIt was amazing to have an onsen to use every day after skiing. The breakfast was delicious with so many options. Awesome location with ski lift right across the road from the hotel.
Nothing other than the bed was very hard.

Verified reviewThe onsen in the basement is really nice after a day of skiing. You can ski up to the entrance of the hotel. The breakfast is very nice as well. Plenty of choice and all good quality. A nice extra is the fire place and the pot with marshmallows that could be heated over the open fire
The room was quite warm, and the heater could not be adjusted as needed. There is no shower in the room, but the onsen makes up for it. Dinner in the hotel is expensive and there are not many options for dinner around

Verified reviewThis was excellent value for money with ski up to the door, lovely buffet breakfast with lots to choose from, cosy Onsen hot pool, a lovely fire with marshmallows to toast every night. You could hire ski gear here and our room had a lovely view down the valley. There was table tennis downstairs for the snowy days. It was also in I think the best location in Shiga Kogen Ski field. East access in either direction and bus outside. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Although the dinner was delicious it was expensive. We had it twice more as a special treat and had a bigger lunch the rest of the time.

We came on a weekday on the off-season, so it was pretty far from the active resort.

Verified reviewReally great food, great ski equipment, great staff, great location!
Didn't love not having a bathroom in my room or access to a western-style shower for after skiing. The onsen was enjoyable but I would have liked to have had the option.

Verified reviewStayed here with my family for a ski trip and they cover everything, from ski rentals to ski passes and food. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious as well. I really loved the lounge with the fireplace where you could sit and relax after a day of skiing.
The toilet was slightly dirty when we first moved in, but they cleaned it after the first day so its okay. The hotel property is a bit dated so it can't compare with modern hotels, but it makes up for it with it's services and food really.

Verified review- Excellent location; bus stop nearby and easy access to nearby ski areas - Service - Good breakfast and even better dinner. Dinner was serving an excellent variety of local and Japanese cuisine. You could also combine it with shabu shabu. - The room was equipped with a shower and an onsen was available 24/7 - Heated skistorage - Homelike atmosphere
- Absolutely nothing to dislike. But keep in mind that it’s not a big city chain hotel but a Japanese ski hotel.
