Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBreakfast and dinner were included, which was great. Dinner times could’ve been a bit more flexible, but the main thing was there was just too much food! Normally that’s not a bad thing, but we felt bad wasting it since we couldn’t finish everything!
Great location - we had an amazing stay here - the staff were so friendly and made our stay enjoyable and they were very accommodating. There were lots of snacks and drinks available to use throughout the day. Rooms were very clean and had a lovely ambience and view - the beds were also very comfortable.

United StatesThe property is wonderfully designed and well kept. The guest rooms are wonderfully cozy and are spacious. The third floor viewing area is spectacular. The views of the canal, the interior design, and the food left me speechless. And the staff, they were unbelievably kind, polite, and attentive. They make you feel at home and ensure they explain everything to you in great detail.

United StatesAmazing Ryokan experience in walking distance of the train station and all of the onsen. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. They answered any questions we had and the food was amazing. The dinner was a highlight as the amount of food and drinks were endless and all excellent. Highly recommended. I would definitely stay here if I return to Kinosaki.

Our stay at Tokitotoki was simply exceptional and made the highlight of our trip so far in Japan. This is by far the best hotel me or my husband have ever stayed in- and I have been in many 4 star and up in Europe. The staff were welcoming and their help always exceeded expectations. The hotel is impeccably clean and in very good condition. There are free soft and alcoholic drinks and snacks available throughout most of the day and the mealtimes are simply exceptional. The evening meal always consisted of a sashimi boat, steamed food buffet and main meal. The tajima beef is the standard main meal, but since we stayed for 5 nights, the chef varied our main meal each day. The hotel even brought in specialised chefs to cook meals for me and my husband, which gave us the opportunity to experience exceptional Japanese dishes which we have never tried before. Breakfast and afternoon tea likewise varied throughout our stay. It is clear that the staff are always thinking of how to make the guests as comfortable as possible and as a result the whole experience is absolutely luxurious, relaxing and refreshing.

United StatesMy husband and I stayed here and will likely be talking about it forever. It was so comfortable and the food was fabulous. We loved everything about this place. Plus, there are two private onsens on the property. We used these a couples times during our stay. The translation of this site can be confusing. It says “shared bathroom”. The property is referring to the two rooms they have with baths (private onsens). All the rooms have private restrooms or toilets with sinks. To bathe, you go to the private onsens on the property or any of the 7 public ones. All the locals bathe at the public onsens.

JapanIt was a surprise that the accommodation didn’t have its own parking. There was public parking close by and plenty of spaces on a week day, but could it be problematic during busier times?
The small and intimate feel of boutique accommodation, charming staff, location, and generous array of drinks available for dinner and late into the evening that were included in the price.

JapanThe humidifier wasn't working properly even though the onsen water for the machine was supplied, I woke up with a sore throat the next morning.
Everything exceeded our expectations. We prefer the bath at this hotel to outside ones! Only one couple stayed other than us, so the staff were very attentive. We were fortunate.

United KingdomThe dining being on low 'coffee' tables but seating onsofa only (can't sit on floor no space or cushions) makes for awkwardly/ back pain leaning over to eat. Apart from that it was a perfect experience! One other note is it is NOT handicap/bad joints accessible: rooms & dining accessed by narrow stairs only, (not a critiscim of the Doki Doki itself). This is reality of ancient buildings in historical area not being able to alter for modern accessibilty, so please be aware if does not match your needs.
Lovely staff & amazing food, very attentive, charming & interesting space.

United KingdomWhilst all staff were very friendly and polite. We found they were a little inflexible at times. Unable to look after luggage for 2 hours post 2pm till our train whilst very strict about check in and check out times. Unable to use their gowns whilst undertaking the spas the day of checkout despite all luggage left at the Ryokan as checkout was very early at 10am. They stated breakfast served until 9am but then told us we couldn’t arrive any later than 8:30am. Dinner was very early at 6pm/6:30pm and no flexibility for later. Fortunately I had my eye mask as there are no curtains and so at night very light from the street lamps outside and from dawn. There is also an automatic light sensor in the bedroom that can not be switched off, that woke us, do close the wooden shutter between sink area and bed to prevent this. There is no shower in the bedroom only a shared shower downstairs.
We enjoyed the traditional style of the accommodation, lounge area upstairs, comfortable bed and facilities we experienced at the property including the private Onsen. The food was fantastic, a 3 course affair with Sashimi, steamed buffet and Beef. Plus a refreshing sorbet. Drinks all included in the stay too, which was great. The spa pass for the town was included which was a bonus and allowed us to explore. The town was stunning and filled with cherry blossoms. They also provided a map of the area and some recommendations to us.
