Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

JapanOur stay at this property was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with their warmth and friendliness. They truly make you feel like family, which is rare to find and made our experience even more memorable. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for relaxing after a long day of adventuring. One of the highlights was definitely the sauna and onsen facilities. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and provided such a calming, authentic experience. Additionally there is a theater room, kitchenette with fridge, microwave, stove, dishware and plenty of space to lounge for groups. The property’s proximity to Kamikochi’s bus terminal was another bonus, giving us accessibility to Sawando parking lot in just 15 or so minutes. The location couldn’t be better—convenient yet serene, making it ideal for both relaxation and exploring the area. And we can’t forget the food! Their pizza and bakery shop are absolutely top-notch, offering some of the best and highest-quality dishes we’ve had during our trip. Every bite was a delight! Recommend taking a selection of their bakery goods!! We highly recommend this property if anyone looking for a welcoming atmosphere, great amenities, and exceptional food. We can’t wait to come back!

United KingdomEverything was great!
We had a lovely stay here, for a fraction of the price of other hotels or ryokan in the area. The owners are lovely and you can tell that the place is a labour of love - from the bedrooms to the shared areas to the bathing facilities (not technically onsen as not fed by a hot spring, but easily as nice as an onsen and perfect to warm up after a day out in the snow) and the sauna, which the owner ordered from Finland and assembled by hand. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely place and base for hiking in Norikura Kogen. Rie and her family are super helpful. We love the common spaces, the backyard and the hot bath! Their place is so homey and, smells delicious because they have a bakery. I just love the Ten Gallon Hat and I will definitely come back! NOTE: This place accepts credit card but the eating places dont so.bring enough cash for.food and the bus.

CanadaThis was a cozy guest house with many Western-themed decorations. The rooms, shared bathrooms, and shared kitchen were clean. The owner is friendly and operated a cafe and bakery next door (did not try). The location was convenient for driving and walking distance to a waterfall for a quick hike. This is also within five min drive of the town center for easy access to bus to Mt Norikura.

SerbiaOur Hosts were extremely kind! They were helpful and gave us a lot of useful information. They even gave us a lift to our next accomodation. Very nice and cozy mountain house, beautifully decorated. Our room was clean and tidy, with the nice view of the forest. The sounds of running water coming from the stream behind the house were very relaxing. Very good value for money!

Very good hotel in the mountain ! Perfect for a one-night stopover during a trip to the Japanese Alps. The rooms are comfortable and offer a view of the forest. The hotel's plus points are its private Jacuzzi and sauna (please note that reservations are required for the latter).

The accommodation was so incredible cozy and beautifully decorated. It might be a little "old" house and rooms but very comfortable. Everything was clean and quiet. The owners speak very good English and gave us recommendations. Would have loved to stay more just because it was so comfortable ! There is even a sauna and onsen that you can use and you can sit by the river behind the house. There is a Cafe and a Cake shop belonging to the B&B and the cake (especially the one with butter !!) was so delicious. We are German so we know a good Baumkuchen and this is definitely one !

AustraliaWe arrived on a Wednesday and all the restaurants and cafes except one, were closed. There are no convenience stores in the area so you need to bring supplies with you if you want to save money and eat in. The lodge provides a kitchenette with fridge for self catering.
The scenery was breathtaking. The property backed directly onto a beautiful mountain stream where I enjoyed my morning coffee and watching the moon rise over the pines in the evening. The owners, a lovely Japanese couple Rie & Ryoichi, have been owner managers of the lodge for 40 years and were simply wonderful people. They took the time to make sure we were settled in. Rie who spoke excellent English helped us to plan our itinerary for the area on a day to day basis. She even looked up bus and train timetables for us to ensure our trips were coordinated. Without her help I'm not sure we would have been able to manage all our activities so smoothly. The activities were incredible. Day one we walked up the snow capped Mt Norikura, day 2 we walked through the glacial valley of Kamikochi and day 3, visited the hot spring Shirahone. The rooms were simple with lovely views from the windows and comfortable mattresses and thick doonas ( it gets cold at night). The shared bathroom and hot tub facilities were kept clean and tidy. It was possible to use the bathroom and hot tub facilities privately and the hot tubs had a lovely outlook to the trees and mountain stream. When it was time to leave, Rie gave us a parting gift of her beautiful cakes which was really light and fluffy. A lovely snack for our travels.

United KingdomNothing. We really recommend this homely stay.
The building has a beautiful architecture, with split level design and backing onto a small river side garden with sauna. The garden was perfect for morning coffees and exercise, or a sunset beer. The family were incredibly hospitable and kindly gave us lifts to trailhead and helped us plan journey to and from via public transport. The hot tub was great to relax in.

United StatesComfortable and practical bed and breakfast stay - the overall vibe is friendly bakery cafe, with a 70s kitsch vibe upstairs. Our room was spotless and had a view of the snow covered stream behind the property. The basin in the room was convenient with toilets off the hall and Japanese style bath facilities downstairs for private family use. They large tubs have views of the creekside scenery. The hostess was very helpful and offered tips for activities, the village onsen, and restaurants that were open during shoulder season. Breakfast was delicious. All around a great value in the Norikura area. I would definitely stay here again.
