Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNot much really. We didn't really use the little kitchen and some clothes hangers would have been useful.
We stayed as a family of four (2 adults and 2 teens) in a Deluxe Studio and had a fantastic experience. The room was spotlessly clean and thoughtfully equipped, with the futon beds proving surprisingly popular with our teens. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our visit coincided with the Gion Festival, and their pride and enthusiasm for the event really added to the atmosphere. The location is excellent – an easy walk to Kyoto Station, Nishiki Market, and many other attractions, while still feeling tucked away and peaceful. The air conditioning was an absolute lifesaver during the hot July weather, and the bathroom washing machine came in very handy. The team even gave us an extra dryer and kindly re-hung our clothes while we were out. We also really appreciated them arranging a taxi transfer to Osaka Itami Airport for us on our last day – it made everything seamless. All in all, this was great value for money and a warm, comfortable base for exploring Kyoto. Highly recommended for families or anyone wanting a welcoming, well-located stay!

PolandThe only downside was the lack of kitchen utensils, which made it a bit difficult to use the kitchenette.
Fantastic, helpful, and courteous staff. We received plenty of tips on where to eat—great local recommendations! The traditional breakfast was wonderful. The bathroom was spotless with thoughtful extras like bath salts. The team also helped arrange transport for our luggage, which made everything easier. Excellent location, close to everything. Highly recommend!

United StatesGreat staff, very hospitable and helped us with luggage delivery. Strongly recommend Kaiseki dinners (and breakfast as well), works of art and explosion of flavors. Just note that you might not be able to finish everything in your Kaiseki dinner, there are at least 12-15 different items, :).

United StatesBeautiful Kyoto inn with an exceptional staff. We will definitely stay again if we return to Kyoto. The twin rooms have two beds (one twin, one slightly larger than twin) and a tatami area with room for two futons. This was a great setup for our family of four. The hotel provides tea and coffee beans with a grinder and dripper, and there’s a small kitchenette (microwave, induction burner, mini fridge, sink). The bathroom has a wonderful soaking tub. The staff and owners go out of their ways to help, offering suggestions and setting up reservations for dinner and activities, managing luggage sending, and more. They offer incredible in-room kaiseki meals (our family had both the vegan and fish versions) that were among the best meals we had on our trip, and have beer, wine, and sake available for sale. While we didn’t try them, there is also an in-room breakfast (also with a vegan option) and an afternoon tea and sweets service that you can order. The hotel is a short walk to many restaurants and a great bakery. It is a 7-10 minute walk from several subway lines and very close to several buses. There is an in-room washing machine, and a laundromat a couple of blocks away with large fast dryers. Overall, this was a great spot to base our Kyoto stay—highly recommended!

United StatesA tiny hotel tucked in on a side street of a busy area in downtown Kyoto. Charming atmosphere ( our room was small but beaitofully decorated and equipped; it even had a small tatami area) and extremely frinedly and helpful staff! 8 min drive from Kyoto train station. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

United KingdomTakayoshi and Yukiko give a fantastic welcome. They have clearly put a lot of thought into this hotel with many special touches - eg. atomiser; herbs for the bath - the bath is special! There was a very detailed visitor booklet that was so helpful. A wonderful experience and I hope to return.

GermanyBathroom doesn’t have a heater, but it was okay when keeping the door open and using the air conditioning of the room.
Great location: metro is very close, Ginza is in walking distance (20 minutes). Small and cozy hotel, rooms are modern but have a traditional touch. Typical local breakfast and dinner in room available, both very tasty (but need to be booked latest two days in advance). Owners are very friendly and helped me with preparations for my proposal to my girlfriend. It was a pleasure to stay here!

Attention to detail and care for the guest experience was outstanding! Each day the host made sure we knew where we were going and had many suggestions! The soaking tub in each room was much needed and really memorable!
