Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNot that I didn't like anything. But maybe a sheet with some recommended activities in English would have been nice.

The location, looking over the harbour and small town. The building has been so thoughtfully restored. The hosts were very helpful and really lovely.

AustraliaThe home was a beautiful blend of old architecture and modern fittings. The location on the top of the hill overlooking the port was great. We could sit in the dining area watching the eagles flying outside our windows. Excellent location.

SwitzerlandRestaurant and café options are sparse, especially in the evenings, so plan accordingly.
Spacious, cute and quirky apartment with a nice view over the town and port. Considerably cheaper than the nearby hotels. Amazing Studio Ghibli-related surprise in the accommodation.

United StatesFor the opportunity to stay in a traditional home with some modern amenities (AC, microwave, modern toilet & shower, etc), there really isn't anything worth complaining about. That being said, the bathroom areas (main sink, toilet, shower) are separated from the bedroom by a sliding door. Since there is no AC unit in the bathroom areas, it was very hot in there (95°F/35°C) degrees, and it was important to keep the sliding door closed when not using the bathroom. Also, the sliding windows in the toilet room rattle when it is windy outside. This made it a little hard to sleep at night.
A wonderful stay. Unique alternative to staying in a hotel. After meeting the host at the check-in (Iroha Restaurant, across the main street), it was a brief walk over to the house. Entering the code on the keypad was very easy (better than a key). The house is adjacent to a cat sanctuary where we were pleasantly greeted by three sleepy cats, one in the middle of the stone path outside the house. Traditional sliding shoji screen doors between some rooms. Beds were very comfortable. Wonderful panoramic view of the hills on the other side of the harbor. Dual sheer and privacy curtains for windows in bedroom. Three separate AC units with remotes and a portable fan in main living areas. Nice kitchenette with refrigerator/freezer/microwave. One neat fact is the desk and chair in the study room that was used by Hayao Miyazaki when he stayed in Tomo while producing "Ponyo". We did not eat any meals at Iroha restaurant and most places close by 5pm, but there are a few gems that are open until 10pm. During our stay in early July, we did not experience any significant bug issues that others have mentioned. Keeping the entrance and foyer sliding doors closed helps keep bugs and flying insects out.

Excellent Location and Value, Superb Room and Host Stay location was perfect, a small walk to most sightseeing spots and port to Sensui Island Also its right next to a temple and housing to cats The value you get for this stay is incredible, the entire place is beautiful, but it does get cold at night though but still the value for what you pay is worth it, almost feel spoiled with the spacious and clean rooms. The host were very helpful, kind and welcoming - recommended many great spots , one spot I highly recommend is the nearby restaurant Kichi - the owner is super welcoming and cool. Loved this stay and was the perfect stay for 2 nights in Tomonoura Highly recommend and I would 100 percent stay again

JapanKind lady was waiting for us for the check in. (We se up the meeting beforehand.) So there was no issue. The rooms were clean and we could see cats from the kitchen window. This place is perfect for cats lovers and history lovers. We enjoyed Tomonoura so much as it is history packed area.

BelgiumThe description in booking.com mentions a balcony/terrace and there is also a photo of a terrace but in reality there is not any because the space is occupied by the cages of the cats. Photos and description should be corrected.
Newly refurbished appartment in a wonderful position. If I went back to Tomo no Ura I would probably choose to stay there again. Tomo no Ura is a very pleasant village.
