Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesOn my final day, the hostel gave my bed to another person. I actually had to leave early anyway, so there wasn't an issue, but as I was gathering my things I noticed there was another person's stuff in my bed. Also, guests should be aware that the hostel has a very steep staircase, and there's 1 shower that's shared between all guests on all floors.
Staff was helpful and accommodating. Everything was helpfully labelled. The first floor is a bar with a bunch of musical instruments set out for anyone who wants to have an impromptu jam session.

JapanThe shower/changing room was a little cramped but otherwise was perfectly adequate.
The owner was very kind and friendly, the bar downstairs was awesome too. Ended up arriving in time for a Xmas party, which was a blast. The bed itself was comfy and clean, and I had plenty of privacy. Overall, it was a very fun place to stay and great value for money, especially for a short trip. Even better if you're a Muso, the owner has a collection of various instruments and he's more than happy to jam with you too.

IndonesiaI got a bunk bed on the top. It was a bit difficult to get in and out of bed. The pantry area has no heating so I was very cold.
I like the strategic location in the Koenji area which is famous for its unique and vintage shops.

FranceI'll start with this: I found someone sleeping in my bed one night - and all of my personal belongings on the floor! The owner woke everyone up in the middle of the night... shifting beds... some of my stuff was missing (later it was found)... It was unpleasant (nicely speaking). And unfortunately, this is not the only confusing experience during my stay - firstly there was noone at the reception, then I was told to take any bed, then the following day I was told to move to another room (in a not very polite way). Meanwhile, there was a zero flexibility to change and adjust my booking... I don't mean to be too negative, even knowing all this I may reconsider going back. But just wanted to make it clear that the management of this place is unfortunately very bad and that the communication with 'the manager' is almost impossible (even on rare occasions when he is there)
Koenji is one of my favourite districts in Tokyo and the shopping street can't be more charming and cosy - it is the reason I booked this place. The atmosphere in the hostel is very relaxed and easy going, complete freedom. Maintenance is OK (most of days) and even if there is only one shower area there was no waiting... it works.

AustraliaThere was minimal security- though a locking door for the hostel area was advertised, it was kept unlocked and accessible from the bar the entire time. The stairs were super steep, which wasn’t necessarily bad, just something to keep in mind if you have large bags. One thing to keep in mind, there are no lockers (as expected) but it would’ve been nice.
The location was good, in between 2 convenient stations that directly serviced Tokyo station and Shinjuku station. The room was large, so there was lots of space to put your bags and items other than your bed. They provided free washing and drying, new face and body towels daily. Kitchen was small but had good facilities, with a microwave and toaster oven.

JapanWell, obviously this place isn't for everyone. The hostel has these tiny stairs that aren't great for larger luggage, not to mention having to get them through the bar at the entrance. The owner tales care of everything by himself AND runs a bar until late at night. Don't expect anyone to be there until the evening at least. You won't really have a lot of options for keeping your stuff safe, so you have to keep valuables on your person.
This laid back backpackers hostel is great for a couple of days. You'll get a perfectly fine bed, very late checkout, easy self check-in and even a small communal fridge in the room in case you want to keep something close. It's in the coolest place in Tokyo, Koenji, which in of itself is a MAJOR selling point. You'll have everything you could want nearby - restaurants, grocery stores, watering holes... Despite some complaints, the main station is just a brisk 10 minute walk. Hardly a big deal. Plus, you get to see the cool spots you'll want to check out later.

NetherlandsThere were many great people in the hostel, but there was no common room for everyone to chill. So you would have to visit the other room, or disturb others when they might not want to talk. There was a bar downstairs, though, but personally I didn't have the money to sit there every night.
Everything you could need was there: towels, toothbrushes, a hairdryer, plates, cutlery, glasses, a microwave, cocktailshaker... The rooms were clean and had an AC. |They also had a small table and some stools.

Czech RepublicRoom was smelly, roof was leaking water at multiple locations. The place was cold and humid. All my luggage and clothes got smelly. Completely unlocked, anyone from the street could get in to the room anytime. No lockboxes either. No staff, bar looks cool in the pictures, in reality it is not even open. I don’t understand how this place can have good reviews. By far worst accommodation I have been in Japan.

JapanThe location is amazing, Koenji has many vintage shops and many cool bars and restaurants and this place is great for getting there! After that it was all pretty piss poor. We had asked before if we can drop bags off before check in which we were told it was okay. We received no further instruction after that so we turned up on check in day and there was no one there. We called the number and the staff pretty rudely told us to self check-in. We came back at 3pm to properly check and and there was still no staff. We waited almost an hour before someone turned up. The staff member in question turned up having already drank a fair bit of alcohol by the looks of it. We’ve been travelling all day and wanted to go to bed but there were no clean beds available. I told the staff when we checked in there were no beds and he insisted there was two, when I told him there were none left he refused to move from where he was sitting drinking alcohol and to help remedy to situation. My friend took the one bed that looked kind of clean and I left. The staff then changed all the beds and woke my friend up to tell her the bed she was in was dirty and not clean. I had explained to him earlier there were no clean beds, he refused to believe me and now my friend was in a dirty bed and this is disgusting. After cleaning beds the staff member left again and wasn’t around at all when the supposed bar downstairs was to open so I went somewhere else. The vibe of the staff overall was that he didn’t want us to be there and trust me I never will go again. The bedrooms were pretty dirty overall. Shoes are allowed all over. Where Amenities like towels are weren’t explained at all. The beds aren’t very comfortable and the room was cold. The whole place stank of cigarettes. There is no area where you can relax or chat to others so you’re awkwardly standing in the hallway. Wouldn’t recommend at all
Close to the main cool areas of Koenji
