Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The meals were absolutely amazing 😻 lots of fresh delicacies. Same for breakfast. Very beautiful hotel and koi pond, a minute away from Aso shrine powerful spot. The room had its own Onsen and very comfortable beds on the second floor.

SingaporeThe staff were a little rigid about check-in time, which posed some inconvenience as we were initially planning to reach Aso later in the evening. There was also a curfew of 10pm for the rooms in the main ryokan block, which is a little odd and curtailing, particularly when our party occupied rooms in separate buildings. There were very few eateries nearby too if one didn’t want to eat at the ryokan; we ended up at Joyfull as everything was closed at night.
A cosy ryokan that has a mixture of traditional and modern rooms. Meals were in dining rooms that are slightly in need of refurbishing, but clean, and the food was excellent. Breakfast in particular was an amazing spread; dinner comes at an additional cost, but the portions were huge. The traditional room had an outdoor shower, which would probably be more enjoyable in summer than cold early spring. The amenities provided were good, and service was generally excellent. The welcome matcha and dessert was a lovely touch. Parking was accessible and there was a convenience store just a short drive away, which is helpful.

SwitzerlandContact with the staff is limited due to language barrier and we weren’t given a proper introduction at arrival. Finally, the front door was making a lot of noise because of the wind so we didn’t sleep that well either. Also there is little place for a stroll in Aso itself, we found other villages around were probably nicer.
The outside bathtub is very nice and all basic amenities are available.

Close to Miyagi Station and Aso Temple with shuttle service from the hotel staff. Staff were all friendly and accommodating. Room was spacious with all necessities and a kotatsu in our room. But the highlight was definitely their meals. Highly recommend if you are visiting Aso

United KingdomWe liked everything about our stay, the only thing was before the stay the person communicating with us via Booking.com didn't seem very professional so we were concerned before we arrived. On arrival, our worries immediately vanished as were greeted by the lovely staff.
We loved our stay at Tsuruya. The ryokan building is very charming, and full of character. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, particularly the ladies that served our breakfast and dinner. Speaking of the food, the Japanese breakfast was totally wonderful, such a lovely experience eating this dressed in our yukata, that were in the room. And the room was lovely: spacious, tidy, clean, well-furnished, and the balcony with private onsen was such a treat. We would highly recommend you stay here. If you do, do book the set dinner.

SingaporeIt was a bit old and run down. A few of the lights in the room were not working. It’s ok for us, as we were staying for only 1 night.
The meals were amazing. So much variety and they were all very delicious. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the town!

SingaporeNot their fault as it's an old compound but the bedroom was upstairs while the toilets and sinks were downstairs. Tiny gripe but don't let that detract you from staying.
Beautiful little Ryokan. Phenomenal service and food. Only 5 rooms and you pretty much don't see anyone else during your stay. In-room onsens were fabulous as well and the family suite we took was massive.

Hong Kong1. If you travel to this hotel by public transport, you have to walk around 15-20 minutes from the nearest train station. 2. It would be much better if you rent a car and there is free parking space for you to park the car. However, please be reminded that the location of this hotel on Google map is not so accurate. It guides you to its back door where you can't park your car nor get inside. 3. The staff cannot speak in English fluently. However, if you are patient enough, then they will try their best to explain to you with their very limited English. 4. The only place for you to bath is in outdoor. Hence, when you come here in winter, it will be very cold.
1. The room is spacious for three people. 2. The whole hotel is elegant, with traditional Japanese design. You can take a lot of photos inside the hotel as its design is very different from those you normally live in big cities. 3. We had a dinner meal in this hotel. Wow, it's just unforgettable. The seafood is so fresh and overall the meal is bravo! 4. There is a private onsen bath in my room. You can enjoy it anytime!

SingaporeOn the first day, the breakfast was served in a room that has no heating and it was really very cold and therefore the food turned cold very quickly. The staircase is steep and the steps are narrow so one needs to be extra careful when walking down the stairs at night to use the bathroom. There is also a faint odour in the toilet. The front door lock is a tad flimsy and can feel a bit insecured despite the neighborhood is safe.
The welcome tea and snack was refreshing. The breakfast was quite alright, no frill and nothing fancy. The property is a 2 storey house at the corner, it was quiet and peaceful. The luxurious and modern bubble bathtub is very enjoyable. It is a short walk from Aso Temple and there are small eateries within 5 mins walk. Ample parking space.

AustraliaWe really enjoyed staying at this traditional Ryokan. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese cuisine served by very respectful waitresses. Its well located for Mt Aso. We had our own private onsen which was an excellent way to end the day. We highly recommend staying at Aso Tsuruya
