    Nothing, was perfect.

The building is super charming and well located. The crew is amazing, very helpful, friendly and they speak in English very well. The hotel gives a lot of good treats and free drinks.

nothing I expected to experience more of the history of the place, yet that was not a big matter for us

Small hotel with fantastic service. Comfortable rooms. Great breakfast. Cozy bar area with snacks and drinks on offer for guests. It’s in a quiet residential neighborhood, yet we still could walk back after dinner in Gion (30 min or so). Close to a train station as well. We really liked retreating back to our hotel after spending the day exploring.

Marufukuro is by far the best accommodation experience we've ever had. Absolutely the highlight of our time in Japan. Whether it's the history surrounding the building, the beautiful and convenient location, the amazing amenities, or the extraordinary staff, there is so much to love and appreciate about this place. I stayed here with my now fiancée and prior to my stay I worked with the staff to plan my proposal at this hotel. To say they went above and beyond is an understatement. Thanks to them, absolutely everything about our stay and the proposal was simply perfect. I can not even begin to thank all the staff at Marufukuro enough for everything they did to make our stay truly special. We will definitely be staying here again in the future!

Outstanding stay in a historic building with all mod-cons

Breakfast (we had the Japanese option) was - in comparison to other, similar places (we stayed one months in japan, and this was our 6th visit to the country) - innovative but not as tasty. The breakfast room for the Japanese breakfast is, however, lovely - would much prefer over the "western breakfast"

Outstanding stay - from reception throughout the entire stay. We accepted a paid upgrade to the recently refurbished, former owners' home now "presidents suite", with two separate living and bedroom parts, and a small interior garden with your private bath. Wonderfully relaxing, and super-quiet (like the entire hotel). Great location, excellent staff, loved the self-serve bar and library at night.

The staff were outstanding and extremely attentive. Always pleased to serve to the best of their ability in typical Japanese style. Language was not a barrier for Brits because all understood but not necessarily fluent. Japanese and Western breakfast options available, with the Western a little limited because it is a relatively small hotel. All have access to what could be considered a Club Lounge with free drinks (beer, wine and softies) and snacks during the day plus a make your own cocktails bar in the evening. There were also 5 or 6 whiskey options to choose from. Very enjoyable for 4 night stay.

We stayed here for one night as a special treat, but wish we could have stayed longer. This hotel is in a former Nintendo office and warehouse and there are subtle nods to Nintendo throughout the building. The staff are very happy to help. The rooms are immaculate and roomy and the vibe is phenomenal. Wholly recommend!

The receptionist was really professional. When he found out I’m a big Nintendo fan, he recommended a room with lots of Nintendo touches. He also took the time to share some history about the building and details about the room. On top of that, his effortless charm made him a true gentleman. It was a fantastic place.

I expected more elements of Nintendo (e.g. historic pictures, decade-ago working documents regarding game design, introduction/history sharing through more decorations or a page on TV menu) than only a library. Also, I would expect more connections with other Nintendo spots (for example, this is a Nintendo trip for me, which I headed to Nintendo Museum and USJ after checking out from this hotel. That would be great if there could be a shuttle bus or at least a general map or suggested routes provided by the hotel but there's not. That would be even greater if the hotel would consider having partnership promotion with other Nintendo spots and provide combo options.)

Classy. Cozy. Great ambience with good design. Good outlook. Excellent food and beverage (no matter the paid breakfast or the complimentary 24-hour bar with great snacks like ham and sorbet). Offering a good mood and atmosphere related to Nintendo (as a former office).

Everything was superb, great service with high attention to detail, comfortable room with high quality amenities, the generous stocking of free flow mini bar of specially curated local offerings was amazing. It’s great for a quiet getaway and close enough to a commute on foot/train/bus to where you want to have more interactions with different aspects of what Kyoto has to offer.

There were construction noises during the day as there are works happening right opposite the hotel.

Beautiful location by the Kamo river, makes you feel like you’re living the zen Kyoto life. The staff is excellent and goes above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay (shout out to Cho-san for his kindness and ever present smile). The complimentary in room amenities are very generous. And of course, being Nintendo we loved winding down in the Library Bar after the days exploring was done.

Marufukuro is a beautifully appointed hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of Kyoto. It is close to buses and subway stations and is about 20 mins walk from Kyoto main station so it is a very convenient location. The hotel is decorated with classic mid century modern furniture and has retained much of the original features of the Nintendo offices. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the guest only lounge is a relaxing space to spend an evening and the bed was the most comfortable of our entire trip. The rooms are very spacious compared to average Japanese hotel rooms. It is at a higher price point than we are usually comfortable with but as it was a special occasion for us we splashed out. Everything is luxurious and well considered, so the pricing does reflect the offering. There are snacks and beverages offered at no extra cost and various amenities available including complimentary access to a local onsen. Staff were a delight to deal with and were very helpful.

The pillows would probably be the only complaint, but still managed to sleep. Just not the style I prefer.

Easy walk from Kyoto station (10mins), quiet area but still has everything you need close by. Staff were amazing and friendly. The room was massive and so was the bed. The things included with your room, amazing!

Everything about my stay at Marufukuro was exceptional. The staff was incredibly kind, the amenities were top-notch, the rooms were beautiful and my dinner at the hotel restaurant was one of the best meals of my entire trip to Kyoto. Not only would I absolutely stay here again, I've already recommended it to friends and family as well. The library, the bar, the snacks provided... everything was perfect! Thank you to the entire staff of Marafukuro for making my stay such a pleasant one and I look forward to visiting again one day! PS: If you're staying here, make sure to book one of the balcony rooms. The view was perfect to watch the sunrise and sunset!
