Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBe aware there are two norikura bus stations (for some reason). They are on different sides of the mountain and very far away so please do your research how to get here correctly. I went to the wrong one and had to take 4 more buses to finally arrive.
This is probably one of the best hostels in Japan. Super affordable. Beautiful nature all around. Hot springs in the hostel. amazing common areas where I met amazing people. I highly recommend.

JapanI slept with the bed curtain open to have more fresh air, so maybe having some kind of ventilation in bed units would be great.
The place has great atmosphere! It is super cozy and you can feel that the staff has thought through everything. The open-air bath was amazing and it's really great that all the baths are booked for private use so you can use it as a couple or even if you have tatoos. All the common areas were clean and had everything possible - the kitchen was very well equipped and it was no problem to cook a proper dinner if you had the ingredients. I was also presently surprised to see some plant-based curries among some products you can buy on site. They also have a shuttle bus to closest restaurants and information on their menu including notes on whether they have vegetarian menu. I was travelling alone and booked a bed in hostel-type room and it exceeded my expectations. The bed itself was pretty spacious, the room had a sink and a mirror and most of all I was glad to get a lot of space for my luggage as it is usually a problem in such rooms, but here I had more than I needed. The location is great even if you are travelling by public transport and perfect for a stay before going up Norikura Mountain. I would definitely like to stay here again and maybe I will come with my boyfriend next time.

United StatesNot necessarily things I personally didn't like, but things that my family members had trouble with. Firstly, this location is not mobility impaired friendly. All the rooms are located on the second floor and there is no elevator or ramp up. This was a problem for my mother who has arthritis in her knees. Something to note if you have or are traveling with someone who has mobility issues. Secondly, the room I stayed in had a bit of a mold issue. We didn't visibly see mold, but could smell it every time we returned to the room. It wasn't a problem for me, but my partner ended up sick as she has mold allergies. We were staying at the height of summer, so humidity was high. I imagine this isn't an issue for travelers who come during the winter months.
Had a great stay here. The outdoor onsen especially was a delight. Yes, the water smells like eggs. It's sulfuric. But I noticed my skin felt especially soft after, so don't let the smell deter you. It feels great. The bagels they give for breakfast are delicious, and there is a free freshly ground coffee available. On one of the non-cloudly nights of my stay I was able to see the stars very clearly - I even spotted a shooting star! It was magical. The staff is young, friendly, and helpful. Feel free to ask them to make reservations for you at one of the nearby mom and pop style restaurants. And do not miss out on the gelato and coffee available at their cafe nearby! Location wise, Raicho is excellent. You're a short walk from several trails and a short bike ride or drive to some lovely waterfalls.

SingaporeThe place is not accessible without a car. Even finding a place for a meal is not easy. We spent quite some time going from place to place to look for a restaurant that is open. Some restaurants indicated in Google maps as opened were not when we reach there.
The moment we reached the inn, the vibes from the host Yuma and team was so good. We felt so welcomed and the place sets us at ease. Even the guests are more friendly. Yuma is especially welcoming and helpful, we feel very comfortable with her. The young people in the host team is excellent. On the inn, the photos put up in Booking.com does not do the place justice. My daughter was not looking forward to stay here based on the photos. But we entered the place, we were pleasantly surprised. Can consider putting different photos.

South KoreaThis inn is located in a scenic area with access to wonderful hiking trails and outdoor activities right from the doorstep. At the staff's recommendation, I walked to a beautiful waterfall and pond close by. The birch forests in the area and views of Mount Norikura are absolutely stunning. We found the area very peaceful with few people around when we visited mid-week. We enjoyed our time soaking in the onsen baths. As my partner has a couple of small tattoos, it was great that they were private and therefore tattoo-friendly. The outdoor bath was a particular treat. The staff were very friendly with great recommendations for the surrounding area. Our room was very large and the futons comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer than just one night.

SwitzerlandOur stay at Raicho was just fantastic, thanks to the super friendly and professional staff members and the increadible cozy guest house (the fire place was just soo relaxing). The staff was highly attentive and booked dinner reservations, shuttled us to the dinner places or also bus stops and was always on top of what we were planning to do (e.g. when we planned to rent out mountain bikes, the staff already had prepared everything in the morning on the day we went for the ride). Many thanks to the whole Raicho team making our 3 night stay a highlight of our Japan trip!
