Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelWe had the most wonderful stay in this stunning traditional house in Kyoto. The home is beautifully designed, with a refined aesthetic that reflects true Japanese elegance. Every detail is thoughtful and perfect—from the serene inner garden to the spacious bath and the big windows overlooking the river. It's just as beautiful as the photos—if not more! The house is spacious, comfortable, and luxurious. Everywhere you look, there’s beauty and harmony. The location is ideal—quiet and peaceful, right on the riverside, yet centrally located so you can easily reach many key attractions by foot or a short ride. What truly made our stay exceptional was our host, Yumi. She warmly welcomed us, walked us through the house, helped us plan our time in Kyoto, and even arranged to ship our luggage to the next destination. She was always available to answer questions and continued helping us even days after we had left, going above and beyond when we needed assistance with unrelated luggage logistics. Thank you so much, Yumi, for your generous and thoughtful hospitality. We are deeply grateful and highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone visiting Kyoto!

TurkeyIt can get a bit chilly in the winter due to its traditional wooden structure, but keeping the AC on consistently should keep the space comfortable.
A beautifully restored Ryokan-style property, with its thoughtful details and authentic atmosphere. Nestled right along the river, it offers a local experience—so much so that a heron regularly fed by a neighbor adds a touch of quiet magic, reminiscent of a scene from a Ghibli film. The hotel manager, Yumi, was exceptionally welcoming, providing recommendations and a warm, informative welcome upon check-in. The surrounding neighborhood, full of character, is dotted with tiny restaurants and hidden shops waiting to be discovered.

Saudi ArabiaIt was cold when we were there, so we either had the heat on too high or too low. Yumi did explain it, but I don't think we did a good job at managing
We were 2 families, 6 adults and 2 kids (5&6). Everything was wonderful, Yumi was there to check us in and take u through the whole house. It is traditional, but with modern kitchen and bathrooms. Super clean, nice, sleek and practical designs.

United StatesIt’s walkable to everywhere but it can take a while. 5 mins to 7-11, 15 mins to Kyoto station. It’s not a problem for our group.
It’s a very well managed property. High quality material, kitchenware, everything. The design of the house is gorgeous, it offers nice space and peace. We’re a large group of 10 and it’s near impossible to find a place in Kyoto. This house was just perfect. The host was super helpful with easy communication from booking to the whole stay.

We loved the layout of the house and the spaciousness when we first walked in. The garden area is a highlight and binds the whole house together. Especially the bathroom on the second floor is really well made and makes for a great evening bath with view into the garden.

AustraliaNothing!
Wonderful warm host, stylish architectural design and great location. The house is about a 15-20 min flat walk to central Kyoto, in a quiet friendly neighbourhood with plenty of trendy coffee shops and restaurants. We appreciated the way Yumi greeted us at the property, gave us a tour of the house, helped us plan our itinerary for the week, and booked us into a beautiful restaurant for dinner! The house felt both modern and minimalist but at the same time traditional and cosy. All beds were very comfortable.

IndiaThere’s nothing not to like. Unless you want to stay in the middle of the busy areas.
It was authentic / quaint and completely a true Japanese experience. A modern , comfortable , yet very traditional experience of Japanese living beside a beautiful wide canal. A 15/20 min walk from the main streets. Quiet and peaceful. We even managed a table to a Michelin Guide Ramen place suggested by the host. We were 5 of us. There’s 4 beds on Tatami mats and one regular bed. The house is situated in a narrow street so if you come by taxi you may have to walk a small distance by foot. Cycling around in Kyoto or walking or taking a cab is very doable.

United StatesThe home was conveniently located on the Kamo River and close to Kyoto Station. We loved waking up and opening the sliding doors on the second floor to see the ducks and herons in the morning. The home is an architectural dream - they've made indoor/outdoor living a main focus while maintaining privacy and comfort.
