Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandIt was all fantastic, there was nothing to not like!
This place is spectacular and it’s the second time we booked. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese inn/hotel this is the place to stay!! I would recommend this to anyone, it is by far the best place we stayed in Japan! I would like to make a special mention to Koike Takahiro who looked after us! He was the most fantastic host and staff member, he did so much to help us and make our stay amazing, he was just incredible! Don’t hesitate to book this place you won’t be disappointed it’s is phenomenal!

United StatesNo restaurant or bar service on the day I stayed. This is usually an important part of a Ryokan experience, so cannot be understated. This wasn’t only conveyed after the booking was made.
Great facilities. Excellent location. Modern and clean ryokan room that keeps the traditional spirit.

RomaniaWhen we arrived we were welcomed with matcha tea and a traditional desert which were refreshing after a very long journey. The room was outstanding, exactly like in the pictures, loved the traditional Japanese style. In the room we had everything we needed from toiletries to coffee maker. The room was clean, had AC in case we were cold, the bed was comfy and it had a view to the garden. The Ryokan was quiet, perfect for a few days of relaxation. We especially loved the yukatas. The view to the central garden was everything we had hoped for. The main star for us was the private onsen which was accessible directly from the shower. The kaiseki breakfast and dinner were amazing. The staff even adapted the menu to our dietary needs, for example we couldn't eat raw fish and they were happy to change some of the ingredients. The restaurant is cozy and elegant and all the tables have privacy. The staff was kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. The neighborhood was quiet, clean. There are several hikes you can take in the nearby woods. From some of them you can even see Mount Fuji. A true Ryokan experience.

ChinaI don’t like the way front desk works. They don’t allow any changes to plan. English is also a problem to understand each other properly.

The room is beautiful and full of characters, there is a lovely garden too where you hear the frogs, you really get to experience traditional aesthetic and atmosphere there. The room did feel quite big for a solo traveller. The staff are very attentive and helpful, Yamada san speaks excellent Chinese which makes the communication smooth, they also went out of their way to make arrangements for me to visit various places. The food was also very thoughtful and fresh.

United StatesMind the frogs in the garden that get it going pretty loud in June. But if you have ear plugs or ear buds you’re good.

United KingdomIt is quite the uphill walk from the main attractions like the temple and bamboo forest but if you are keen on having a nice refreshing walk it should not be a problem as it was not for us.
The property was clean, beautiful and the onsen was really relaxing. Everything was very well kept and breakfast was delicious. Staff, despite having limited English were great at still managing to communicate with us properly by other means, and were really friendly. One man even gave us a list of recommended restaurants around the area when dinner was not available for our particular booking :)

United StatesThere is nothing I didn't like about this facility. Westerners will likely find it difficult to use a mattress on the ground like we did at first, and it takes a while to find the Air Conditioner. You may also not be able to adjust the heat in the Onsens. Some did, some didn't.
I can't give enough compliments to the staff of this location. They were all super friendly and helpful to a group of Americans that spoke super broken Japanese. On both nights, the crew went above and beyond to call over the course of several hours in order to get us reservations in town. They really worked very hard to take care of us. I love the in-room onsens. They have a window that let's in air from the outside, and a shower attached so you don't get in dirty and you can get some nice relaxation time. I was skeptical at first because this was the most expensive leg of our trip, but it was worth every penny.

CanadaWe weren’t particularly fond of the breakfast, but we understand it was very traditional (we’re just not accustomed to those ingredients); nonetheless, we’re glad we gave it a try.
This property is absolutely gorgeous. The gardens provided a serene and peaceful atmosphere, and the ryokan itself was stunning. The space was incredibly spacious, beautifully designed, comfortable and had every amenity needed for an indulgent stay. The two private onsens were truly relaxing —I only wish I had stayed longer to explore the charming village nearby. At first i was scared because i couldn’t find many reviews about this place but im so happy i stayed here I can’t recommend this place enough!

United StatesTraditional Japanese accommodations with a private onsen in each room - this was the experience of a lifetime. My husband and I went for vacation and we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and stellar service. This was truly the best service we have ever received in a hotel, I can’t emphasize that enough.
