How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe hotel is quite charming and not too big. The Onsen is a nice place to relax and the rooms are quite large for Japan. The staff was always friendly and at least tried their best.
My initial room had strange noises that happened at irregular intervals. It turned out that the hotels boiler was located under the room which caused the issue. I'm a light sleeper and this made it a rough night for me. The issue could be solved the next day - though without an apology or any gesture. As the hotel is only a limited service property you have to pay to get your room cleaned. Theoretically this is included once for a 3 nights+ stay, though as I had to switch rooms they didn't service my room at all. Generally the hotel lacks processes, it feels like the staff doesn't communicate with each other. For example my bags wherent brought to the new room as discussed or when I ordered breakfast as a lunch box for my end-of-stay they did not prepare it and told me different things.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience of having to change rooms. At the same time, I am glad that we were able to arrange an alternate room for you. Regarding the housekeeping service, room cleaning is provided after every two nights if the stay is for three nights or more for Eco Stay plan. For your recent stay, since you moved to a new room, the cleaning schedule was calculated based on the number of nights stayed in the new room. I apologize for clear explanation was made to you. I also sincerely apologize that we were unable to provide the take-out breakfast due to our oversight. We will take the utmost care to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future. Also, I am glad to know you enjoyed your room and onsen. Once again, my sincere apologies for all the inconvenience you experienced with us, and I only hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future. Verified reviewThe breakfast was great, 3 great choices, excellent Sashimi, Eel or Roast Beeef set, they even offered to box up breakfasts for the ones in our party who slept in. The Onsen was excellent, indoor and outdoor and sauna, A private Onsen is also available by booking if you want time with your partner. The activiites are all within a 20 minute ride, and there are day trips that can easily be taken to see other parts of Hokkaido. Best of all was the Front Desk and Concierge staff was amazing. So welcoming and helpful. I hope that is true in high season too. Finally the place is very serene for a big place. the decor instantly relaxes you.
Love the provision of pajamas, but it would be good to offer large size options. While there was a convenience store across the street, might be nice to have a discreet vending machine, sin e Lawsons closes at 10.

Verified reviewThe hotel is beautifully designed. There is a lot of attention to detail. The rooms were very well appointed. we thoroughly enjoyed our private onsen session, I would highly recommend this. The main foyer has beautiful views over Mt Yotei which are very impressive. The staff were very attentive and helpful.
Unfortunately, the meals we had at the hotel, one dinner and 1 breakfast were totally lacking in flavours or inspiration. We expected more given the market the hotel is catering to. They have it almost right….but just not right….. which was disappointing. The hotel is very large, so getting around the hotel can be somewhat confusing, especially at first.. We got disoriented a few times !!!

Verified reviewEverything was great except the fact that the climate control did not work very well for Spring. It was way too hot in the day which resulted in us opening all the windows, which resulted in the night being way too cold. Setsu currently sets their climate control either to heating or cooling based on if its the winter or the summer. But for the transitional seasons like spring or autumn, guest should have the option to alternate between cooling and heating functions.
