The washing basin is a bit too small which makes it awkward to use.

Very comfortable stay with professional housekeeping management which gave us a glimpse into traditional Japanese onsen culture; the staff are very kind and helpful taking charge of everything ranging from meals to the onsen with meticulous care; the dinner was absolutely excellent: not only did they offer a great variety of Japanese cuisine but they did it in a magnificent way, serving every delicacy with great hospitality and professionalism.

The main coastal road goes right by the property.

The service was amazing and attentive. I stayed at 4 onsen ryokans in the Izu area and this was by far the most intimate and traditional experience. The food was tasty and abundant. I would highly recommend a stay here.

From check in to check out. This resort was absolutely magical. Everyone there was truly so beautiful. All the food was delicious. Such a beautiful place to spend a couple of days or even longer. The ocean view room and private onsen was so special. The other onsens they had on the property were also so wonderful. Not many rooms on the property as well so you can easily make a reservation to have one of those privately

Having a private outdoor onsen for the room was fabulous. We also enjoyed our reservation for one of the indoor/outdoor onsen. Also the food was fabulous-the dinner changed each day and the staff explained the dishes to us. The sashimi boat was especially wonderful

Kawazu is a small town so walking the town is easy. This ryokan is along the beach so the view from every room is wonderful. There is an outdoor onsen in every room as well as a larger outdoor onsen for groups. The staff was wonderful and met our every need. The food was exceptional….beautiful presentation…tasty. They have their own boats out in the bay that collects seafood so it can’t get much fresher. This ryokan was exceptional!

Exceptionally attentive staff with some of the best hospitality we've ever experienced. The private bath was amazing, with beautiful views, and the food was excellent. It was a shame that, due to travel plans, we couldn't stay longer and enjoy the local area, especially given the extra complimentary services and amenities that were offered for beach-going - very thoughtful!

The only major point of caution I would raise is that a main road does run between the hotel and the bay it overlooks. It didn't impact our stay, but sleepers of an extremely sensitive disposition may want to take heed.

Our favourite of the four ryokan we had the pleasure of experiencing in Ryokan. What tipped it was the incredible staff, who went to every effort to make us feel welcome throughout, and managed to walk a perfect line between friendly and professional. We were particularly grateful to the one lady who took charge of both our meals directly; this personal touch - making sure you have the same point of contact throughout your stay - seems to be a feature of Ushiogumo, and was very much appreciated. The room and rotenburo overlooking the beach is beautiful, with ample amenities including a charming coffee stand in the adjoining powder room. Dinner was also excellent, with each course prepared and brought to us individually in our private dining area, as well as a sake tasting set that I thought was extremely generous in its proportions. In fact, I think maybe the most skillful aspect of the whole arrangement is that Ushiogumo does well to screen guests from one another, so that you have the impression that the whole ryokan is put on entirely for your benefit.

I wish there wasn't a road in front so we could hear the beach at night!

This place is a luxury, you are treated exceptionally well, the staff is extremely helpful and kind and so very welcoming. The amenities and location are just amazing, you can walk along the beach as it's right across the street, There are only a few rooms so it is very peaceful, the onsens are amazing, the staff made us wonderful ice coffee to relax with outside as well. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Everything was positive about this ryokan! Staff were extremely friendly. The onsen bath in your private balcony was fantastic, having the luxury of enjoying onsen in your room. They also had two private onsen rooms which you can book to use for free! We stayed for two nights and had kaiseki for dinner both nights, which were amazing as well. It was truly an unforgettable experience staying here.

We had a wonderful stay. Miwa-San took very good care of us since the moment we stepped foot inside until we left. Felt very personal and staff is very attentive. Free milk, free rental for picnic baskets, etc. Top notch facilities.

Friendly & professional staff We had the corner room for 3 pax so was spacious. Love the in-room onsen! It was sea facing so thr soak was a marvelous experience The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious and full of variety. Excellent all round
