Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

JapanThe toilet space was quite small, and the doors were loud to open, but thats nothing huge. Its almost expected of old Japanese homes. The stairs from the carpark to the house were quite slippery in winter, please be careful not to slip. The bed was a little tough but the duvet was great!
Kaji, the owner, was very welcoming! He was very friendly and flexible with check-in times, chatted with us over a drink and gave us some food despite not being required to. The place was very homely and comfortable. I liked the decor and feel of a traditional Japanese home. He let us use the fridge and microwave and gave us a tour of the place. Recommended for travellers who like to chat in Japanese. There was a separate sleeping space for female guests, so they can stay comfortably. Night view over the city was amazing. Great for the price.

BrazilThe shower was a bit dirty for my standards.
The owner is very sympathetic and kindly offered some of his tempura! Thank you! The female dorm has an amazing view. The house is located in place with incredible view, very close to obasute station. I don’t have any car, and it was in ready to get to the service center where you can get some food!

United KingdomLovely old country house, far away from the busy city. Beware, it is a bit complicated to get around the area without a car. But the train station is a 10 minute walk away and you can get to Nagano easily. From there, you can get to Zenko-ji, Togakushi Okusha and nearby hot springs. Also, make sure to stock up on groceries if you have no car to drive to the next town! There is a shared kitchen and outside barbecue.:) This is an old Japanese house, so bring warm clothes and expect to sleep on a thin mattress. But for the price, it is a great experience and a very interesting place to stay! The host is kind and helpful, even with limited English.

SingaporeThere is no air-con. Despite the temperature at a summer night is around 22 degC I still felt hot and had to wipe my sweat multiple times.
An absolutely amazing experience to stay at Kaji-san’s cozy guesthouse just 10 minutes walk from the well-known Obasute station. Staying here allows for enjoying the extraordinary view of the Obasute rice terraces and the Zenkoji Plain, while the stay itself is embraced by Shinano’s vast nature: night breeze, songs of insects, and morning dew. The owner Kaji-san is kind and talkative, and I enjoyed the conversation with him and other guests after a day of hustle and bustle. The facilities - surprisingly modern and well-furnished despite the rather obsolete look of the building. Have already recommended it to my friends who intend to visit Nagano and will definitely keep it as one of my favorite staying highlights in Japan.

JapanKaji-san is an amazing and kind host. The true soul of the place. Location is breathtaking. Most things are a bit far to walk but it's so relaxing being in the countryside with a beautiful view of the terraced rice fields. Really enjoyed 30mins walk to the nearest combini or river through the rice fields. If you have a car / bicycle, nearby Kamiyamada town is very cute and has great onsens. Share cycle dock station is also very close to the guesthouse but app store needs to be set for Japan to be able to download the app to use the bicycles. The house is simple but very cosy. Also, importantly, it was chilly inside when outside was too hot. Can't wait to come back again for a peaceful, beautiful stay in Obasute at kind Kaji-san's guesthouse
