A bit dated rooms, slow wifi. It was cloudy / rain on both nights so no stargazing.

Friendly and informative host. The hotel is located in Kuju mountains far away from shops and restaurants, a car is must. Location is great for visiting the surrounding nature attractions. Breakfast was excellent as was the private onsen. Room was very big for japanese hotel.

The husband and wife team running this property is amazing. Their breakfast was prepared and served with pride, and attention to detail. I love the little touches in their tea room. A piano, shelves of books and interesting paraphernalia all contribute to a wonderful homey British countryside vibe. The vast space outside the property includes a hammock and an observatory. The owner is happy to bring you to explore the stars at 8pm there. Our teens had great fun there. We are an entourage of 7 including an elderly who ocassionally uses the wheelchair. We didnt find it hard to get around the property. We love the space of the bedrooms and the privacy of this whole compound. Also love the private onsen where you had to walk just 2 min out(still within the compounds) and you have the whole place to yourself for 50 minutes i think? It was basic but comforting. Just the thing to unwind to after a long day driving around. Booking required. Please note the dinner has to be booked 2 days in advance. We forgot about it and regretted since the breakfast was so yummy.

Delightful stay in the country with wonderful hosts. We enjoyed a private onsen before an outstanding multi-course Japanese/French dinner. One of the best meals of our trip. This was followed with the host treating guests to star/planet viewing in his observatory. The room was simple but very spacious and comfortable. The grounds were well maintained with a beautiful and peaceful view. It felt like a destination on its own right and it is very convenient for visiting several nearby national parks. With google translate it was very easy to communicate with the host. Our stay was a very special experience and is a highly recommended stay in central Kyushu.

Simply amazing place. The owner is such a lovely and friendly man, we loved the cottage esp the bathroom is so spacious. The private onsen can be booked and definitely a must do. The surroundings are beautiful, we had a great time watching the stars at night with other guests, a memorable experience we will not forget. Breakfast is delicious esp the bread and coffee, great service and serene view from the dining room.

the view, the rare host Naoosho san was so nice. words cannot describe his hospitality. Naoosho san has great advise re where to travel. He is an astronomer and gracefully invited us to watch stars in his private observatory. It was fascinating! The breakfast was yummy. Full of thought and delicious 😋

I echo other reviews. The Host couple was very hospitable and obviously take great pride in this place and providing excellent service and meals. The room was very large and comfortable. Setting was very peaceful and we enjoyed the onsens after dinner. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we didn’t get to use the telescope. Make sure you are accurate with your arrival time and punctual for dinner. The dinner is many courses so needs to be prepared well in advance. They take great care in preparation and serving the dinner so being punctual is the courteous thing to do. Allow extra time as google maps seemed to provide very optimistic drive times in the area.

The carpark to the room was a short walk away. Recommend that you check in first (without luggage) then make your way to collect them. The place has 2 sides. I stayed at the side with the single level which was a short walk away and nearer to the onsen.

The observatory star viewing at night and the meals. The owner/caretaker are extremely friendly and welcoming. The location is a quick drive amidst many other lodging options. What stood out were the hospitality, the meals and the unique observatory viewing. It is a real gem amidst other standard hotels around the area. There was even a hot plate meal and his macaroni and cheese creation which was extremely delightful.

It's in a very quiet location surrounded by trees. The four couse dinner was very tasty with great presentations. After dinner, the host was kind enough to show us the stars from his observatory. It was a lifetime experience to see Jupiter and Saturn from the telescope. Breakfast was very nice as well. The hosts prepared for us earlier than usual by our request. We are very much appreciated!

The accommodation is run by a very kind and caring couple. They are very interested and care about their guests. During the evening we had an amazing 4 course dinner and in the morning an amazing breakfast. Also, we could make use of the private onsen during the evening and watched Jupiter and the moon in the observatory which was both very special. When there was snow during breakfast, the owner took care of us by checking the road conditions and help us deciding the route. Thank you very much for the truly wonderful and perfect stay. We enjoyed it very much.

The furniture was a bit older and there's not much around (10-20 min drive to closest restaurant/stores).

This is a great piece of land in between Mt Aso and Kuju. The environment was so peaceful and serene. Our stay was filled with rain but it didn't stop us from using the onsen both nights. The room was clean and very spacious. And the owner and his wife were really kind and helpful.

None Just be aware, that it is a bit remote place. the closest town (Taketa) is about 20 minutes away by car.

Charming accommodation managed by a lovely couple. Very nice onsen that can booked for private use for no extra charge. It is the ideal place to stay if you visit Mount Aso and the Kurokawa area
