Staying here in cozy Kirikushi on the peaceful island of Etajima was fantastic. The location is very convenient, as you are in immediate walking distance (~5 mins) of two ferry ports, with one going to Hiroshima and the other one to Kure. The house and its rooms were very comfortable and clean. The kitchen amenities were very good as well, making it easy to cook food for yourself when you don't feel like eating out. The café next door is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a quick meal or cake. There are also several Okonomiyaki places around. Additionally you can get to Hiroshima Port by ferry in just 30 minutes (or even less, if you take the express boat), so it's easy to get anything you might need or desire. You can go hiking in the hills/forest very easily - it's very calm and peaceful there, which I enjoyed a lot. While there is no direct public transit in Kirikushi to connect you to the rest of Etajima, you can order an "orange car" as public transit alternative to take you there. Alternatively you could rent a bike or just walk, which was also doable. Even though Google Maps doesn't really indicate it, there's a small grocery store close-by, so you don't need to go to the mainland each time to buy groceries. Additionally, there's another very small grocery store right at the main ferry port. Overall we loved our stay here and were really sad when our stay came to an end. We will definitely come back!

Beautiful place surrendering by veggies garden, in a lovely quiet little town, good place to connect with yourself and relaxing time with your kids, long easy bike ride along oyster farms, little port, amazing food and coffee at Kos cafe. And fish burger , sashimi, I will go back

A very charming fresh feeling property. Softest pillows. Lovely duvet. Connected to a small building in which you can eat fresh fish and have a home made Japanese style breakfast. Everyone is very friendly. You’re a short ferry away from the main city including the memorial peace park, Miyajima island with the floating tori gate and plenty of gems throughout Hiroshima including South Park sandwiches and Obscura coffee. Etajima is a charming tucked away island with plenty of its own beauty so do take the time to walk around you’re able, nice during winter but I can see this really flourishing during the spring and summer.

These critiques are not a stain on my stay, I really enjoyed it but with these small improvements you could easily get 10/10s. A printed laminated guide on how to use the facilities in multiple languages. Including the aircon / heater remote. I struggled to use this my first night and woke up in the middle of the night very cold. Not sure why it stopped but I figured it out by the next day. Also additional pillows, though the pillows on offer are soft they are a little too soft and if your guests are side sleepers they may find themselves with shoulder / neck pain. The guide on how to reach the property takes you down the side of the building, this could be improved with a smooth foot path, or an extension of the wooden patio you have already built. For now I think it would be best to have visitors go down the main road and follow the path that way to the entrance. If you have large luggage this would be advised. This isn’t a critique on the owner and more on me but we had to use google translate to talk mostly, it was a giggle but to make your life easier you could have some print outs laminated at the entrance of the property with some other basic information maybe even including breakfast timings and offering, directions to each of the ferry ports and other such useful information about the area. This isn’t a brilliant location and it’s a very reasonable price, regardless of the improvements that can be made this is still a great stay and a highlight of my trip to Japan.
