Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe best hotel stay I’ve experienced. Hotel Yuraku is in the perfect location - right in the Gion district and yet tucked away from the crowds. The rooms are beautiful and luxurious and yet simple. We booked a room with a private onsen and it was amazing. The staff is kind, helpful and friendly. The food is delicious. It’s a truly unique and wonderful experience.

Beautiful, huge room with a hot-tub easily big enough for two people. Great facilities with everything you could need easily accessible.

This was an experience. The classic Japanese inn with onsens in the room. In old Kyoto and close to the modern city centre. Staff were amazing and extremely patient and helpful. Rooms are large which is rare for Japan. Really enjoyed this stay.

United KingdomNothing.
Everything. The food, location, onsen, spa and staff were all amazing. It was in a very peaceful part of Kyoto and a stones through away from so many shrines. All the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The masseuse was so sweet and did an excellent job getting rid of all my soreness. The chef is extremely talented and prepared delicious food for us daily. The rooms were very spacious and much nicer in person, the pictures don’t do them enough justice! There was even air conditioning that we could control ourselves so the room was always nice and cool, perfect after a long day in the sun. And the private bath in the room was the perfect thing to melt away all the stress and heat from the day. The only downside is the cemetery next door but honestly you don’t notice it unless you’re staring directly out the window, and there are two windows so you can just keep that one closed if it creeps you out. But please don’t let that stop you from staying at this amazing gem of a hotel.

United StatesFor the high price we paid I feel the breakfast and kaiseki dinner experience should have been included. And we wish the twin beds were movable to make a king bed for a couple.
Loved the suite and shower room and having our own private outdoor onsen with deck and garden! All the amenities were wonderful and we cannot wait to stay there again. It’s close walking distance to multiple temples and shrines and to Gion district for meals and shopping.

United StatesThis was the most wonderful experience that myself and my husband have had at a hotel. We traveled to Japan for the first time for our anniversary this year. I really wanted a more traditional style hotel, and hotel Yuraku Kyo-Yasaka did not disappoint, in fact, they exceeded every expectation! The room was spacious with the most beautiful in room onsen filled with mineral water. The hotel was pristine and beautiful. The breakfast was incredible and really gave us a nice introduction to Kaiseki cuisine. The location was also wonderful, just behind Yasaka shrine and within a nice walking distance to the bustling parts of Gion. If you are in Kyoto, stay at hotel Yuraku Kyo-Yasaka, you won't regret it. From the kind staff to the gorgeous rooms, this hotel made our trip so magical. お世話になりました

This is a small boutique hotel, full of thoughtful and lovely touches. The location is a short walk removed from the busy streets so you immediately feel peaceful. The room was extra large, the in-room onsen beautiful, and the staff was so lovely. We especially loved the happy hour and living room amenities. The only thing I would have changed is to stay longer

United KingdomThe only possible downside is that it is relatively far from the main shopping districts (e.g. Takashimaya, metro stations), which is a bit harder after a long day of walking!
You leave your shoes in lockers at the entrance, which made it a very clean hotel overall. It is within 15-20 mins walk to ninenzaka, sannenzaka, and kiyomizu-dera! Also, the guest lounge was an excellent place to relax in yukata with complimentary snacks and beverages. Its location was also very quiet.
