Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great social environment, fairly tidy and excellent location (easy access to the slopes, ski rental and then 7-eleven).

AustraliaNo drying room. The area for storing ski gear wasn’t heated, leaving boots and clothing damp. The only place to dry them was in the bedroom that accommodated 32 people, resulting in an unpleasant smell. The toilets lacked soap, offering hand sanitiser instead. The place was listed as non-smoking, but had a dedicated smoking room with no door, but a fan at the top of the stairs. The smell of smoke still permeated the building. Only about 10% of patrons were smokers, leaving the rest to endure the smoke drifting to the main floor. It would have been far better utilised as a kitchen or a chill-out area instead of a dedicated smoking room. Particularly as there was minimal space to eat—just one table for four—and limited seating with some couches. The kitchen didn’t supply coffee cups, plates or cutlery, just glasses that cluttered the small sink. There was a bar for guests, but prices were steep; we could buy a beer at the Seicomart next door for a third of the price. Getting rid of the bar and installing vending machines would be a far better option. We weren’t allowed to put up any coverings for privacy or to block out light, as smoke detectors are required by law to be installed in each cubicle. In contrast, Moiwa Lodge 834 has smoke detectors and screens in each cubicle. The lighting in each cubicle was excessively bright; a low-light setting would be much more suitable, especially since we couldn’t block out others’ lights when trying to sleep. Security cameras in the bedroom. The 2 showers were poorly designed, lacking hooks for hanging clothes. The only storage for luggage was under the beds, which could fit snowboard bags but not larger items.
The location was great. Opposite the ski resort, next to two convenience stores and close to the bus stops. The one staff member was lovely and always friendly. The beds were comfortable. Two washing machines, free to use, just need to supply detergent. The place is new. Hoping they will take on feedback and makes some changes, as the place could be great place.

New ZealandBook early as there is a shortage of accommodation in Rusutsu or you’ll end up here sharing a room with 32 others Modern place with a lot of potential but their fire safety rules mean you can’t hang a towel over your cubicle exit for privacy until 10pm when staff leave or risk a $300 fine. Ideally they need cubicle curtains & lockers to make the stay pleasant The key code check in won’t work until 3pm and after 10am on day of check out. You will be greeted by a camera saying ‘please outside close door’ on repeat They have 2 showers, 3 toilets & 2 washing machines, ski drying room is a bit cold but very useful They could do with a few more sofas in the lounge, another dining table in the kitchen. The downstairs lounge is a smokers room but could be a great tv, games, hangout area
Great location across the road from rusutsu resort & next to a 7/11. free bus transport to and from Sapporo via rusutsu resort website ! Fantastic skiing - recommend the 25 hour rusutsu ski pass. Live music at cricket bar most nights

AustraliaBar and communal areas. Bar was trying to be high end so charging a lot for mid range whiskey eg over 20 bucks for Talisker 10, had all the expected Yamazaki etc but too expensive to actually drink there... A whiskey buff would be better to visit Rodeo Drive so no one from hostel drank there but no outsiders allowed kind of a vibe kill not set up as a very chill space bar usually empty with staff just killing time. Would be way better to have cheaper drinks and food as these days most places are booked or expensive so it's Seiko or 7-11 3 meals a day. "Kitchen" area was really big and clean but only one small table and a lot of wasted space so most people seemed to chill on their capsule bed and no fridge or cutlery just a microwave No curtains on beds and not great for storage when full. Overall a ot of potential and good for the price but don't expect much of a vibe unless there are crew there with a bit of fun in their bones which did happen when we got some Kiwi boys through . Also standard Japan style they run the aircon crazy hot. Thankful said rowdy kiwis unplugged it most nights otherwise it was a bit like sleeping in a sauna.
Very close to Resort and next door to convenience store. For the price best available accom in Rusutsu I've stayed at and has laundry showers and kitchen of sorts. Secure and really clean. Staff really friendly when there, Wifi okay. Stayed there with my teenager and he was happy with food nearby good wifi and capsule den bed to chill after riding.

AustraliaWith no reviews when I booked, I was a little sceptical this place even existed but it does and it's good! Though the staff were nice, I did not often find them very helpful. I had called the number to see if I could be allowed to stow my luggage before the (late) check in time and did not make any progress whatsoever even after talking for a few minutes. The code on the door also managed to lock me out randomly one night, leaving me to yell and bang on the door in just my socks till someone heard me. For a capacity of I think 32 people? More seating and better kitchen facilities would be more appropriate. There is only a kettle, toaster oven and a microwave, no cutlery or dishware. There is also only 2 showers, with an interesting set up and only the privacy of a thin curtain to change. Unlike the capsules themselves with NO privacy partition from the rest of the room. There is a small lock safe for valuables as small as a passport but nothing else. Despite all this I found it good accommodation for a solo traveller and for sure the best value for money. Maybe if you can snag a booking at the other youtei, it would make up for what this one lacks. PLAN AHEAD AND BOOK YOUR TRANSPORT TO AND FROM THE AREA WELL IN ADVANCE. The resort liner booked through rusutsu's website is great value but must be booked a week in advance. Other buses become full/sold out quickly.
Great location just a short walk from the east gondola, tower pair lift, the resort area, and two konbini! The bed was comfy and I didn't find the capsule stifling, however I am small and 165cm tall. The staff were very lovely and friendly. Everything was diligently kept clean!

AustraliaNo induction cooktop or stove, only microwave. A bit of a cooking setup in such a remote spot would be legit.
Good location if you're riding rusutsu on a budget. You can ride down from the gondola, unstrap, cross the road and you are right there at 7/11. From there its a short block (5 houses or so) to the hostel. Easy Peasy. Expect to live off 7/11 or 2-3 surrounding restaurants. Bus from surrounding towns/sapporo/niseko stops very close at the main hotel. You can travel around by but to get to niseko for a much better vibe but busses are infrequent and dont run late so you want to make sure you know your timetable!

AustraliaProbably overpriced. Like other capsule hostels, the place is really cramped and muggy when it’s full, and there’s not much space for your ski gear. No privacy in your bed because curtains and even hanging your towel is not allowed. Wifi was pretty patchy and the bar is expensive for a hostel.
Unbeatable location 5 mins walk from the lifts and next door to two konbinis. Property was really clean, staff were lovely and helpful, and the free washing machine and dryer was excellent. The staff organised more seating during my stay to accomodate the number of people in the hostel which was responsive.

AustraliaCurtains on the cubicles would be great but I didn't find it much of an issue. The bar area has barely any seating and the beers are expensive so no one drinks there.
Youtei 2 is excellent value for money. It has everything you need and the location (lifts 5min walk away, 7/11 next door) is unbeatable. Alot of the issues mentioned in previous reviews were fixed during my stay here, there's a fridge, more seating, the basement is now non-smoking. The only issue I had with the entire place is the pods should have curtains but that is apparently a fire safety issue. The dry room is pretty cold but it does dry your stuff and there's space to hang jackets/pants inside if that's an issue. I will say while I was here it certainly wasn't a party hostel, most people went to bed pretty early or hung out in their bunks which is great if you're here to ride hard but can seem a little dull if you want to meet people and drink. That said, I did meet some great people and had a good time, especially for the price.

AustraliaNo curtains on the pods, couldn’t hang clothes up to create a barrier due to “fire hazard”
The hostel was exactly as expected, so conveniently located for the resort. Was good as everyone was riding so nobody up late. Could do with a bit more of a common area to hang out but other wise it was great

AustraliaOver priced for the comfort level. A reception/ bar area that doesn’t have adequate seating, has a bare floor and inflated drink prices. If you’re staying in a ski area and you’re skiing, which is the majority of customers, you’ll have plenty of luggage and you need more space to store it and this place doesn’t.
Location is very convenient.

United StatesTheir smoking area is in the basement and doesn’t have a door so the entire place smells like smoke. Despite it being a hostel, it still felt more like a jail cell than a hostel. Staff was unable to make any helpful changes. I was issued a top bunk through the automated booking system. I asked for a bottom bunk because climbing up a ladder with a recent back injury was difficult. I saw there were a few open bottom bunks and made the request, but the staff member said she couldn’t make any changes. The bottom bunk remained unused for the two nights I was there.
Location is central and pretty easy access to Rusutsu Ski Area.

Australia30 beds to 1 dorm room, 2 toilets, 2 showers, with no storage space is far too many people to cram into a room. There is no privacy - no curtains, and there’s strangely a camera in the bedroom which is quite invasive. Missing very basic things such as cutlery or plates or anything to eat with. People were putting their food outside the window as there was no fridge. No areas to hang out really.

AustraliaI had high hopes for my stay, but unfortunately, it fell short. The space was cramped, with not enough room for the number of people staying there, making it feel uncomfortable. The lack of privacy curtains on the bunks was disappointing, and the layout of the room was quite odd. It was a cold, dry room that didn’t effectively dry my gear. Despite being advertised as a no-smoking facility, smoke from the downstairs smoker room seeped into our space, which was quit unpleasant
Bed was comfortable and it had the bare minimum of what you need

AustraliaThe hostel is poorly furnished. In the eating area, 2 benches that can seat 3 people each isn't enough for 32 guests. The showers don't have shelves or hooks to hang clothes and towels up. No shelves inside the bed capsule to place personal items. Privacy is completely absent - camera in the dorm room can see into some of the bed capsules. No curtains to cover your bed either. Ski room isn't heated or insulated.
Facilities were basic but good enough. Kettle and microwave were very useful. Showers and bathroom were clean enough. Bed was comfortable. Towels provided. Very close to the ski slopes and even closer to convenience stores and restaurants. Staff were friendly.
