Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThe shower. If you plan to use their shuttle service, be sure to plan your day properly. To the hotel it starts only from 15:00. Also, the shuttle is a small van, which might be an issue when theres a lot of people. Same for the morning back to the bus station.
Beautiful traditional japanese style hotel. Great room, beautiful and traditional Staff are wonderful. Traditional japanese breakfast, which was an incredible experience but can be harsh for a foreigner.

United StatesSo relaxing and luxurious. The views are breathtakingly gorgeous, it’s unreal! Two private onsens which have no additional fees or need a reservation. The public baths have four different options for baths and a sauna. They have a shuttle bus service from the bus stop. They have free refreshments for after bathing and a couple of snack times. A perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and relax.

Love their free kimono and onsen experience. It was tatami floor in the entire building except dining area, feel great walking on their clean floor bare foots as no shoes are allowed inside the hotel. Really awesome luxurious Japanese gourmet dining and breakfast experience. Free ramen at 10 pm, especially after onsen. Free popiscles.

AustraliaThere is no outdoor area. everything is inside a building
The view and the onsen worth every dollar. The room size is very generous. We didn't expect that there are 2 rooms in the suite for the 3 of us. A truly relaxing experience. We wish we had booked more nights

SloveniaPrivate bath is a bit small while female and male baths are really nice. The only complaint is that when we arrived around 7pm the dinner and the breakfast were already fully booked, which is unusual, especially for the breakfast next morning. The dinner was not an issue as they offer a free ramen between 10 and 11pm together with some ice cream.
Traditional onsen where you experience a traditional onsen with a japanese "turtle" socks and "kimono". The whole place have a tatami floor so you have to take off the shoes at the entrance and put them in a locker so that you can walk around the place in kimono and socks. Great experience an I wish we would be able to stay another day so that we could experience an onsen and bath.

United StatesIt was a little far from Shirakawa-go and the shuttle was not that frequent. On the way back, I decided to walk back to the bus terminal and that was a great decision since it turned out to be one of the most beautiful walk with views of the snow covered mountains, glacier river, dense greenery.
This ryokan was just beautiful. We had a suite with two bedrooms and the view of the river and the mountains was just spectacular. We all enjoyed the onsen onsite. The meals were delicious and very authentic Japanese.

United KingdomIt is a 30 minute walk from Shirakawago village.
This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! It is a ryokan style so it is very traditional inside with tatami floors and you can't wear shoes inside. The room itself was really nice with warm colours, great bathroom / pressure, complete amenities and comfortable beds. I would summarise the rooms as comfortable, traditional and very clean. There were hot springs facilities (both private and public) which were really good. The private hot springs did not need to be booked. There was also a complimentary yukata hire, tea time snacks and ramen at night. As the hotel is far from the main village and bus station, they also offer a shuttle bus in the morning.

GermanyOther than visiting the Shirakawa village during the day, there is not too much to do outside of the hotel during the evening.
Beautiful building with an amazing view of the river and atmospheric dining area. Free, freshly-prepared snacks such as dango or ramen after a visit to the bath are a really nice touch.

GreeceThe fact they only give one big towel and that you get no help with your luggage even though it’s a 5 star hotel.
The hotel is beautiful with great facilities and lots of stuff to do inside like a lounge for coffee and an onsen. The fact that they have free ramen from 22:00 to 23:00 was a nice surprise ! The staff was friendly . Very nice yukata and robes to wear inside.

SingaporeIt's on the pricey side, even during non-peak period of April. One particular counter staff member was very "business-like" (apparently only to non-Japanese speaking guests) and needs to be more friendly and understand that he is in the hospitality business.
Location, cleanliness, most of the staff were friendly. Lots of parking space. Generally a very pleasant place to stay at.
