How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe onsen was really beautiful and large, the Japanese-style rooms were very fun. The atmosphere was lovely, in Japanese style. The location is excellent, very close to the station, in the heart of the village.
The cleanliness wasn't exactly optimal, which is strange for Japan. There was no drinking water or lotion in the onsen, which is a shame.

internet didn’t work in my room-going to the lobby or in the street to use internet is poor substitute. Breakfast was a bad joke.

Verified reviewThe room was big, Onsen was not crowded, reception people were really nice!!
Onsen were a bit dirty, something was in the water, I don’t really know what it was. Maybe some water or vending machine in the onsen could be nice!

Verified reviewThe room is spacious and Japanese style. The hotel just walk straight around 6 mins behind the tourist information centre, near to bus station and train station. They provide a free simple breakfast. (Bread and Drink) The onsen 👍

Verified reviewWe had a pleasant stay for two nights. The hotel is in a very central location, making it easy to explore the area. One of the highlights was the amazing spa and onsen area, which the hotel is well known for. The room was very spacious, providing plenty of comfort. I also appreciated the great public working space, which was convenient for getting some work done. Additionally, there is a restaurant in the same building, which made dining very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful.
The breakfast package was quite small and only included two pieces of bread and a sweet waffle, which felt a bit insufficient. Another downside was that the heater in the bathroom was not working, so we had to heat the entire room and leave all the doors open to keep the bathroom warm.

Verified reviewTraditional tatami rooms. Floor mattresses were firm but actually pretty comfortable. Our family room was very spacious for 3 people but would have been tight at maximum occupancy. Coffee table + seating area was nice for hanging out. Onsite onsen was a delight to warm up after a day on the slopes and is small-tattoo-friendly (they're not comfortable with full sleeves, etc but were ok with ours which are roughly 10cms). Staff have varying levels of english but very friendly and try their hardest to assist (the Indian guy in the mornings has the best english if you need it).
The worst issue is that the property makes no effort to maintain the pathways into the building, so from both entrances you have to walk across extremely slipperly, icy carparks. I fell over twice in first 2 days and ended up having to purchase crampons solely to get in and out of the hotel safely. Defintely not recommended for older people or anyone with mobility issues. Breakfast was pretty poor; just a few bread rolls and some coffee and juice. No shower curtain meaning the entire bathroom got soaked when anyone showered. Our room was not serviced during our 5 night stay.

Verified reviewThe toilet in my private room had not been cleaned properly, there was a kitchenette but signs saying ‘do not use’ next to all appliances, and the handles had been taken off the cupboards so they could not be used either. When I took a trip down to the onsen, there were large chunks of dead skin floating in the water of one of the pools- they clearly had not been cleaned for at least a week. Lastly, despite being a solo traveller the only room available was a family room sleeping 4. There was definitely not enough room for this and would be a comfortable size for 2 or 3.

Verified reviewThe onsen was fantastic after a day's skiing, although westerners should be aware that it's a Japanese-style onsen with Japanese rules (i.e. naked bathing) - a bit confronting the first time you do it! The location is good and the restaurant onsite has good food at reasonable enough prices.
The rooms themselves are pretty dated, and the beds are futons. By Japanese standards the rooms didn't feel especially clean, but maybe that just comes down to the fact that they're getting old.
