Some elements of the multi-course dinner were interesting, some were good.

Lovely Japanese inn, full of character. Onsen bath on the balcony was superb. Brilliant experience for anyone. You won't want to leave.

Not a lot, really. But you do need to have breakfast and dinner at the onsen. We ended up heading to town for some Teppanyaki for dinner.

The property was nestled in the hills. We drove there and parked at the onsen. The area was filled with numerous onsen and charming little spots. While the onsen was pleasant, it only offered a small outdoor area and an indoor option, so there wasn't much variety in the onsen experience.

Location is good and the onsen are nice. You need to pay extra for the private one (3300 yen). We didn't like the futon beds. They were to thin (we have previous experience with sleeping on futons) and for some reason there was soft music starting at 6 am from a speaker in the room.

It is very unfortunate that I was denied entry to the onsen facility due to tattoos, but also that I was still charged despite not being allowed to use the facility. The check-in staff offered cover up stickers which I found very kind, but in my case they would have been insufficient and thus I had to decline. This is very unfair - if you are going to disallow entry, then at least don't charge for the facility... I do not believe that places need to discriminate like this anymore as there are many onsen in Japan that have become ok with tattoos and the people in these places are also comfortable and happy. The water also took a very long time to become warm, which in the winter makes the rooms less convenient and comfortable.

Liked that there was available free parking and the king bed was very comfortable. The tub was a good size also

I had no hot water in my private bathroom.

A very pleasant, spacious room. A lovely Onsen facility. The cafe and library area was a nice place to relax and read a book.

The public transport was not so frequent because the hotel was close to the mountain (so you have shuttle service). During my stay the weather was super hot, there was no AC in the toilet or in the hotel hallway. So I hardly use the shower in my own room...

The room was big. Location is very quiet and peaceful. The service and staff were very good and helpful, especially the shuttle service, you could book easily via the app or at reception. The restaurant was also good, both for dinner and breakfast. Onsen in the rain was the best experience ever.

The onsen (public one) is quite small, but since I was there alone, it was ok :)

Very nice hotel and great servce! Rooms (japanese style) are very nice and spacious. Dinner and breakfast are amazing! They also have a very nice libary/coffe/tea place for relaxing. The hotel is very nice and stylish, staff is very friendly and professional.

Everything was great. I recommend using their shuttle if you have mobility issues. It’s a pretty steep path to get there

The only thing I didn't like was male onsen compare to everything with that ryokan it’s very common and usual public bath.

High-class quality ryokan, rooms and big and quiet. Dinner and breakfast was good.

I loved everything about my experience! The staff were so cute and sweet, everyone of them was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We bought the breakfast and dinner package for the 2 nights of stay. All the food was amazing, it is traditional style but with a light touch of western fusion, the ingredients were all locally sourced and farm raised. The place is filled with charm, with so much hand-made thoughtfulness, a mix of modern and traditional. There were soy sauce workshop, mini libraries full of art books and manga, adult coloring, I was honestly in heaven and everything was beyond my expectation. The room was beautiful and charming, I stayed by the window listening to bird singing in between onsen time. Lovely lovely experience

The pictures are a tad misleading certain part of the hotel are looking very tired. The bathroom was looking very run down to the point my wife didnt want to use the shower because of the rotting wood etc. but the problem is that its made of tradition materials ie bath tub and shower walls are made of wood so they will show signs of wear very quickly, best to look at it as a rustic traditional hotel, so expect the wood bathroom and onsen to reflect its age.

I’m Japanese and I really don’t recommend this Ruokan! It’s a really rip off! Should be careful if you are thinking of booking here↓ A lot of things I hate it:( •Dinner and breakfast are not included (reservation required). •No service to lay out futons (reservation required by 6 p.m.). •Futon sheets are laid out just like in a cheap guesthouse. •Difficult to get through on the phone. •Only a brief “I’m sorry” for the above issues. •No explanation of bath locations or operating hours (open until midnight, 6 a.m. onwards). •Not much information provided about nearby shops. •Yukata sizes are too small. •Need to call staff to get shoes when going outside. •Staff mix up shoes. ・At 5 in the morning. The footsteps of the pet from the upstairs neighbor are too loud!!! ・I tried calling the front desk about it, but couldn't get through.

Not very clean, very nosy room, small bath in the room and bad customer service. Nothing good things. I’m so disappointed that I almost became dislike Yugawara.
