How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe booked a japanese styled room with a private onsen on the balcony. For those who haven't tried a japanese bed, I can say that the pillows are hard, but they gradually take the form of the head so in the end they are very comfortable. It just takes a bit of time to get used to the feeling. I also thought that the bed would be too thin and uncomfortable, but that was not the case! Yes, it is harder than western styled beds, but we woke up very refreshed . The view was breathtaking, especially in the morning hours! The food was a japanese meal course that was carefully prepared with much attention to detail. It's definitely worth experiencing! However, the one thing that made the experience out of this world for us was the treatment you get from the hostess! She is very well-educated and warm-hearted, and she seems to take great pleasure at doing her job. She showed our room and explained everything for us in detail, and she made sure that we enjoyed the experience at its maximum. She also asked us about our next transfer and volunteered to plan the transfer for us. She even said that if we need any help, we can reach up to her even after our stay. This is a massive thank you once again to this amazing person 🙏

Verified reviewExceptional in every way. Tangerine went above and beyond, she clearly has great pride in her work (as is clear from the fact like every review mentions her!). We had 2 big travel days following our visit, she helped us plan transport and book tickets etc. She also contacted our next hotel and was helpful in ensuring we made it there safely. She suggested places for us to visit in the area, and throughout the rest of our trip. Genuinely phenomenal. On top of that, the Ryokan itself was wonderful. The private open air onsen in our room & larger onsen you could reserve on the roof, were so relaxing - very hot mind you, but they had taps to help cool down. Private dining area was a wonderful experience, and they were very accommodating with my dietary requirements. Literally not a single complaint.

Verified reviewWe stayed here for our wedding anniversary, and i'm glad we did! Having the half-board meal options was extremely helpful, as there are no restaurants nearby. The room was large, and it was beautiful to have had a private booking at the rooftop onsen. It is a long bus drive from the train station, however, the scenery is unbelievable.
The pillows were quite uncomfortable but these may be more traditional pillows.

Verified reviewThe dinner was great, very good selection of products and high quality ingredients. Breakfast was also very good and traditional. The private onsen in the room were nice and very hot, also the ones on the rooftop were very nice with amazing views. We also like the complementary drinks and very friendly and kind staff. Getting to the facility was quite easy but it did require a little bit of planning beforehand, but nothing too major. The rooms are very traditional and the bathroom is more modern than the rest of the room.
The cleanliness of the room could have been better for the price paid and the standard expectations (hair on the floor which was not ours). Even though the room is traditional which we liked it could be more well kept and better preserved (stains on the tatami mat...) for the price that we paid.

Verified reviewIncredible location with views that were simply stunning.
There were some marks/stains on the floor in our room, however, the room still felt very clean.

Verified reviewBeautiful landscape surrounding the property, enjoyable views and amazing staff! The private onsen in our room was incredible, and the meals were so amazing. The staff was so friendly and helpful.
The property is a bit more dated than expected. While it does have traditional features to it, some of the pieces inside the hotel are in need of touch ups.

Verified reviewVery scenic bus ride from Takayama, takes about 1.5 hr. The hotel is older but still very comfortable. We had a private onsen with our room but you can also reserve the roof top onsen for 40 minutes for private use. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Felt like a very authentic Japanese experience. We stayed one night but would recommend two for exploring the gorgeous natural beauty of the area.

Verified reviewTangerine was incredibly helpful, making it very easy for us to plan things during our stay. The food was a great experience and very filling.
The building is dated. The bath areas appear to require some attention, however the rest of the interior of the building is in good condition.

Verified reviewYukimurasaki is truly a hidden gem. Both the hotel and the rooms are stunning—beautifully designed, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The food is absolutely top-notch, and every meal felt like a special experience. The natural surroundings and landscape are breathtaking, making it a true escape for the soul. The staff were very kind and attentive. I especially want to mention the receptionist, I believe her name is Tangerine—she’s smart, charming, and incredibly knowledgeable about so many things. The baths were a true sanctuary, offering deep relaxation for both body and mind. I would fly all the way from Croatia again just to spend another peaceful weekend at Yukimurasaki. An unforgettable experience.

Verified reviewAn amazing authentic and traditional stay in the northern alps near Takayama. Our host, Tangerine, was nothing short of superb. Without us even asking, helped plan our trip to the Shinotoka ropeway the following day and how to travel on to Kanazawa with train times etc... Tangerine also noticed my birthday was a few days away, so upon leaving gave me some cake and a wondeful thoughtful message on a card. The food was great, with multiple courses and the onsen was so relaxing, just what we needed. The experience was incredible and me and my wife loved it. Huge thank you in particular to Tangerine!
Being picky, some areas of the room could be a little cleaner I.e. dusting etc...

Verified reviewThe stay was great. The place is beautiful, the food was amazing and the staff was so lovely. Specially the receptionist Tangerine was very knowledgeable and helpful! I was a bit nervous about this reservation because of some of the reviews mentioning bad cleanliness. But the place was spotless except for some moss in the bath areas, but considering it is a natural hot spring that’s perfectly alright. Some stuff is a bit old like some of the paneling but it wasn’t a big deal at all. We had a great time. We stayed for two nights and the menu was different every day while still delivering the typical foods you’d expect. Like we had Hida beef both nights but the preparation was yakiniku first night and Shabu shabu the second for example. The area is very quiet at night even though it is close to the road.
Nothing, it was perfect!
