Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesA little bit of a maze to get to certain onsen, but worth the adventure!
Multiple onsen with dry saunas and steam rooms was worth the extra travel out of Kyoto. Shuttle service was fantastic. Loved the facial products in the rooms. Lots of special surprises that made me feel very welcomed and appreciated. Food was fantastic, timely and so was the service. Breakfast buffet was superb. Lighting set the relaxed mood in the reception area and even in the hallways. Definitely a thoughtful venue and they deserve 5stars!

United KingdomThe room and the facilities were exceptional. We had dinner and breakfast served in the room which was very delicious Japanese cuisine. It's a little out of the way and will take some time to get to but it's very peaceful so it's worth it, and the Hotel staff arranged a shuttle for us from the nearest train station. This hotel is quite expensive but its definitely worth it if you're wanting to stay in a classy Japanese style hotel.

United Statesthe bed was a little firm but all the beds are a bit firmer here. The non-feathered option for a pillow was the buckwheat pillow.
it was a great experience - wonderful having your own private onsen and private dining for dinner and breakfast - definitely happy we booked this experience.

Amazing stay at a newly renovated hotel, friendly staff, and comfortable facilities. Dinner was a course meal and breakfast was a buffet style, with both having a lot of dishes. The place is 1.5km from the train station, but has an excellent shuttle service you can call from a phone at the station. They have many onsen pools which were usually either empty or 1-2 people, which felt quiet and relaxing. Also a sauna and a cold pool next to it which was amazing.

United StatesThe phone at the train station is a bit of a funky experience and our check-in took longer than expected. The outside of the hotel is pretty unassuming, and for whatever reason, I thought it was on the lake but it is actually across the street and behind another hotel. Still a view but not as prominent as you would think and our room had a wooden board covering the lake facing window. I don’t know why.
The lobby was nice and the room was spacious and well appointed . We got the in suite onsen and it was small but so nice to have available right there. The “public” onsen that I went to were very nice. The in room meals were the highlight though. One of the best experiences of our whole trip. AMAZING!!!! Most of it locally sourced too. I would come back just to eat!

PortugalI felt a bit rushed for dinner as the courses were coming too fast.
The hotel was beautiful and I enjoyed the four different onsens in there. A few of the onsens (indoor) were a little on the older side, but the outdoor rock pool was spectacular. The facilities were really great. Dinner was really high quality food, although I felt a bit rushed. The breakfast buffet was spectacular.

MalaysiaThe room was spacious and clean. Free snacks and tea were included, and amenities were readily available. Dinner was excellent, and breakfast was good, too. I tried 3 out of 4 of the public baths (none of the reservable private ones, though) and found them all to be very nice. I liked the indoor one on the 8th floor (which had an open air as well) the most, though the open air bath on the 11th floor was great , too. Staff were very friendly and warm, too. It was easy to access from Ogoto onsen station because there's a phone that allows you to call the shuttle bus.

United StatesI had no complaints about this ryokan. They were fantastic and the facilities were wonderful.
1. A Showa era ryokan but one that has seen some renovations, especially in the room. The place is well set up to handle foreigners and the staff are wonderful. There's a shuttle bus from the station, but even if you can't take it, the taxi is only 1000 yen. 2. The room itself was spacious and comfortable with western style beds. There's a toilet, shower, and bathtub. Sadly I have no view of the lake from my room. 3. There are several onsens and they gender swap in the mornings. There's 2 on the 8th floor, 1 on the 5th floor, and one on the 11th floor. The 11th and 5th floor gender swap. The 11th floor one has beautiful and breathtaking views of the surrounding area and its only an open air onsen. There are 2 pools, one small one and one about 2-3x the size. The 8th floor one had a decent size indoor pool and a small open air one. Towels are provided in the dressing rooms. 4. Dinner was very enjoyable and had several good flavors. It came with quite a bit of meat with grilled beef, grilled duck, and shabu shabu meat. Sashimi and other seafood items were present as well. I really enjoyed a chocolate mochi dessert item they had. The staff are wonderful. 5. Breakfast buffet was a bit small, but still plentiful. They had an omelette station and were making fresh tempura. There were a lot of juices and fruits available as well as many staples of Japanese breakfast. 6. I did the other onsens this morning. 8th floor had some nice views of the lake, especially from the upper open air bath. The indoor one was nice too though slightly smaller than the other one from yesterday. The 5th floor open air was fairly large and quite pretty with its rock formation for the bath and surrounded by flowers and plants. It was a comfortable onsen, though I prefer the gorgeous lake views of the 11th floor one. All in all, a good set of onsens. Anyone staying here will have access to 4 different onsen areas.

TaiwanThe room we stayed this time is a traditional one. The blanket has old style cover sheet on top of it, which is slippery and it’s easily getting away from blanket itself. Feeling cold in the middle of the night if you are grabbing the wrong one.
Multiple hot spring styles for you to try. Food is excellent. Shuttle arrangement is convenient. Staff is kind and helpful :) WIFI has issue on 2nd day, IT support came to our room right away and fixed it. Thanks!
