Beautiful property with wonderful staff

I liked everything about the place it exceeded my expectations of what I thought a good hotel could be. It will probably have been the nicest place Ive stayed ever.

I dont think I have any suggestions for improvement

The view and outside onsen, if you can find it

This hotel is incredibly strange, it is a massive higgledy-piggledy place with incredibly confusing layout. We got lost in the hotel many times and did not find the outside onsen till last day as signage was awful. It is also up an enormous hill which is not near the train station despite its advertising. My sisters and I can not believe the ratings for this hotel and recommend someone follows this up.

Authentic

Absolutely loved our stay here. We had a traditional room with a private hot spring bathroom with a stunning view. The private onsens were also beautiful, food was great, staff were friendly and attentive - would absolutely recommend!

The futons weren't particularly comfy but it didn't spoil our stay. If you're used to softer beds though it's just something to have in mind.

The good spread of food and the comfortable rooms, in addition to good service provided by the staff. The hotel’s long history and the location of it being high up on the mountain provides a bird’s eye view of Gero all added to the allure.

The ryokan was huge and there were many quiet spots which were a little “deserted” at times, which were not to my liking. Nonetheless, the place does exude a certain kind of charm.

The most wonderful stay we've had in a while. The property is located hillside with a gorgeous garden up front. As soon as we arrived, a hostess checked us in and took our luggage. She then showed us the property which was greatly appreciated since it's big - and took us to our room. Our room was already setup, with a sweet treat and tea waiting for us. We were lucky enough to have our room on the top floor with a private onsen. We had dinner at the facility which was also excellent and very cheap for how tasty it was. I wish we could have stayed a couple of days so we could have fully enjoyed everything about this amazing spot. Thank you!

Beautiful building and location, building was very cool and fun to explore. Foot baths and public baths were excellent.

In room onsen was great. Great dinner even without reservation so we could enjoyed the relax. Big rooms very clean.

Picked up by hotel from the train station. Property has beautiful grounds and views. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding in presentation, menu and service. Ryokan experience including room with three futon and private onsen was much appreciated.

Quite a walk within the hotel. Confusing floor plan. I got lost while trying to find my way back to the room from public bath. The location is uphill. So just enjoy only the hotel not the gero area.

It seems this hotel used to be a beautiful 'Grand' hotel in its hey days. set in a beautiful location above the village of Gero. the hotel nestles in a nice gardens and forest, but it is a very old property in urgent need of major refreshing, so It could be a most wonderful location and establishment again. It felt very old, 'cold' and conveyed an empty, lonesome feeling .
