Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe location is far from yamagata station and the last transportation to get hotel is around 6:40 pm. This place is better for just chill and relax. If you are planning travelling to ginzan onsen, yamadera temple and zao fox villages, I will recommend the hotels near yamagata station. The other thing i will say, pillows are abit smelly so i have to use another duvet used as pillow.
It is very clean and tidy. The room is spacious and very comfy. I love the hot spring water and sauna provided.

SingaporeIf I were to nitpick, I would say that the Onsen water felt like it was just heated water and lacks the sulphuric smell of hot spring water. That didn't in any way make the stay less comfortable.
My family of 17 absolutely loved the place. It was beautiful and very clean. It also felt very homely since we are not allowed to wear shoes into the building (as like Asian homes). Some of my group arrived late at the ryokan and the staff received us warmly nevertheless. As hotel guests, the females can borrow a pretty yukata each, which made the whole experience complete. The breakfast spread was delicious too.

SingaporeThe stay was pleasant overall, but if I were to highlight one point, it would be that the hotel could benefit from some renovation. For instance, the room still has outdated controls for a built-in radio, which I believe are no longer in use.
The room is spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable, with excellent family-friendly facilities that my kids thoroughly enjoyed, including the play and reading areas, and the convenience of provided parking added to a pleasant stay. Although the staff speak little English, they are extremely helpful and go out of their way to explain things in detail, making it a minor concern overall. For the first time, I experienced a hotel policy requiring guests to leave their shoes in the lobby and walk around in socks or in-room shoes, which I found to be a great idea for maintaining cleaner floors throughout the hotel.

JapanThe host spring unfortunately only had 6 showers which became quite busy at times. However there is a sign just as you walk into the change room to let you know how crowded it was. Guests have priority over those just coming for the day. The breakfast was good, but not much variety of bread with no jam or cereal. There was a rice ball making station though which some would love. The Japanese food was good and had a better variety. The room looked a bit outdated and it didn't have any towels. But, it did come with a nice view and a delicious welcome treat (pecan nut chocolate or a chocolate wafer). I didn't ask for towels because I didn't need to shower in the room. The way the hall light lined up with my door allowed for a steam of light to shine in my room...however I'm told that I'm oversensitive to light so perhaps it's not a problem for most people. The room had doors to cover the windows so not much light got in through there.
The hotel has an amazing level of calmness and it was very easy to relax in the lounge areas and cafe. The staff were very kind and helpful and there were no TVs or random screens blaring useless noise anywhere in the public spaces. I was able to read a lot of great books snuggled up in swinging chairs, hammocks and on sofas. The free coffee and herb water (after 10 or 11am) was a great treat. The lounge wear provided was super comfortable so I bought myself a set. The gelato at the cafe was great, but get it fresh, not in a frozen takeaway cup. The cafe also had a great assortment of food which was brought out by a cute robot that tried to serve it to the big teddy bear seated at my table.

DenmarkThis is not criticism, but ear plugs recommended for light sleepers, just in case. The walls are quite thin. It is a family friendly place and we had neighbours with crying babies both nights. My husband inquired about earplugs at reception, the staff were very kind and offered the possibility of changing rooms. We chose to stay in our original rooms with earplugs.
Helpful and friendly staff and amazing food. We stayed in one of the rooms with the private outdoor bath. The room was lovely, very spacious and comfortable.

United StatesWe booked one “suite” room and one “regular” room. The “suite” room was very modern and comfortable. While the “regular” room provided standard comfort levels, it was comparatively outdated.
The dinner exceeded expectations - about 9 courses that provided a good variety of Japanese cuisine, from fresh seafood to local beef varieties. The property itself also provided so many options to relax, including reading areas and on-site onsens.

EstoniaThe only thing we could think of was that the transport from and to the city centre was a bit difficult.
Our room was absolutely amazing, we got the suite with onsen on the veranda. The onsen on the top floor had a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The dinners were delicious and the souvenir shop had a nice selection of goods. Interior design of the hotel was very interesting, fun to explore. Overall service was impeccable, very friendly and helpful staff.

ThailandWhile our stay at this hotel was generally nice, the presence of numerous non-guests, allowed to use the one-day onsen, did make it a bit crowded. With only around 30 rooms, accommodating additional visitors made the common areas a tad busy. However, I must commend the hotel's policy of taking off shoes at the entrance, which added a delightful touch of cleanliness. Opting for the half-board plan, we were treated to a dinner that exceeded our expectations. The culinary experience was nothing short of spectacular, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious offerings. The staff were incredibly nice and friendly, contributing to the overall positive atmosphere of our stay. Despite the occasional crowding, we genuinely appreciated the unique features of the hotel and the warm hospitality, making our time here quite enjoyable.

SwitzerlandThere wasn't really a bad thing about my stay, if I would search something then maybe that the room was a bit older.
Breakfast was great, it is a traditional japanese buffet. Also the staff was really helpful and kind, some of them also spoke english. We really enjoyed the finnish sauna and the onsen. The relax lounge with free coffee and water was something special, as well as the comfy homesuites you get. Something really funny was the waiter roboter which served the food, but you can always call a human waiter. I would reccomend this hotel and will definitely come back.

CanadaThe rooms are tired, location a challenge to get to without a car, breakfast was sub par, and no food options after 8 pm. Other hotels we stayed in had better service.
The onsen was nice. The lobby was very nice as well. Seemed very family friendly with a good manga library and reading nooks on the main floor.
