How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The breakfast closing well before it was said it would and the front desk told us it would, and way we were made to feel like we were in the way a full fifteen minutes before the advertised end of breakfast. The paucity of hot foods at breakfast, and the general lack of plentiful supplies of everything else. Really very poor indeed for a hotel like this. The room design was less than thoughtful: it was almost impossible to get the room anything like properly dark, and quite impossible to turn the footlights off, and the curtains fit poorly and did not exclude light at top and bottom. The walls and carpet were rather dirty. One of the two lifts regularly malfunctioned, refusing to allow us to descend to the 1st floor entrance point, saying it was ‘not authorised’.

Verified reviewI loved this hotel and I was so sad to leave! No other hotel which claimed to be the same caliber and quality stood up to this hotel. The room was huge, the facilities nice and updated. I was grateful for both the iron and ironing board. I do wish they had more than two washer dryers. The snacks were a bit disappointing and very small. I wish the snack coffee machine was also available during the breakfast buffet. Those are pretty much the only issues I had with the hotel. It was directly next to a subway line, a 7 11 and a lawsons. I wish i had been able to find the equivalent of this hotel in Tokyo and Osaka.
I do wish they had more than two washer dryers. The snacks were a bit disappointing and very small. I wish the snack coffee machine was also available during the breakfast buffet. Those are pretty much the only issues I had with the hotel.

Fabulous shower and toiletries, good sized room - corner twin suite with an extra bed (we were travelling with our son) great room with a balcony and a good size.
no fitness room, the reception area doesn't feel like 5 star, the bar is really like a lobby / waiting area and not a specific bar area. None of these things had an impact on our stay and I would stay here again. we liked it so much = we cancelled our hotel in Osaka and booked The Royal Park Hotel Iconic there also

This hotel exceeded our expectations, the beds were huge and very comfortable, excellent pillow selection, large rooms for Kyoto. The view was stunning, absolutely amazing afternoon tea and evening drinks. Excellent connection to public transport, many restaurants close by and about a 15min walk into the city centre. I will be recommending this hotel to all our family and friends

Verified reviewOne of the worst five-star hotel experiences I've ever had. A four-star rating would be generous. Our disappointing experience began immediately after check-in. Upon arrival at 1:30 PM, we attempted to get a soft drink from the club lounge before heading out. Despite our check-in, we were told our stay officially began at 3:00 PM and were asked to leave. It was a humiliating situation, especially as we had to explain to our nine-year-old daughter why we were being "expelled" over a few sips of apple juice, water, or coffee—the only beverages available at the time. This level of service is far below the standard one expects from a five-star establishment. The club lounge itself was equally underwhelming. Having stayed at numerous hotels with lounge access, we have experienced varying levels of quality, but this was a new low. For most of the day, the lounge offered only juice and coffee. Even basic beverages like Coca-Cola were locked away, and guests were not allowed to take bottled water, instead having to pour from an often-flat, opened bottle. The advertised "light meal" was virtually non-existent, and the evening drink selection was extremely poor. If a hotel cannot provide a decent club lounge service, it is better not to offer it at all. Furthermore, the overall quality of the hotel was lacking. The staff's command of English was surprisingly poor, especially when compared to our experiences in Osaka and Tokyo. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, with the children's bed being particularly bad. The staff was generally unfriendly, and the entire hotel was filled with signs imposing restrictions—many of which were obvious and unnecessary. We did not receive any bellboy service. Our window view was a construction site. The only positive aspect of our stay was the hotel’s location. Given the poor service, substandard amenities, and unfriendly staff, I strongly advise against booking this hotel.
