I had the most incredible stay here. The house is beautiful, a traditional family home with some modern renovations i.e the kitchen, which is incredibly well equipped. the town is beautiful, the people are so kind, Maizuru is a great location to daytrip to other places e.g. Amanohashidate. There are two heritage public bathhouses in Maizuru where you are made to feel very welcome. The nearby hillside has 4 beautiful historic Buddhist temples. There's an historic fishing village too, incredibly photogenic with its canals at sunset. Yuka, the house manager, is so helpful (and has great English!!) There are free bicycles to use, a great way to explore the area. I went here for 2 nights and stayed for over a week. Such a wonderful house and location

We had the place to ourselves which was truly amazing! Comfortable beds and a great Kitchen and living room. A beautiful garden and many informative books about nearby things got provided by the property owners.

A traditional Japanese house is very cute. Free bicycle, Free kitchen, Friendly staff. A nice public baths close to the sea, if you ride bicycle just 6-8 minutes. Next time I plan to do a fishing tour, I will come back to this place.

Love the place, amazing staff that you can get to meet and just all around great place for a stay although it also depends on who you end up meeting there, personally I was pretty lucky! Located in the middle of town meaning everything is within range. They even offer free bikes for you to move around. The bathroom was also perfect with that mix of old and new, the whole place is the traditional ryokan style which is very nice and they also have a kotatsu! And the price is not even that high! Crazy!

It‘s an old renovated lovely house. the area around is very quiet, but you can find easily some nice restaurants around. it‘s fun to ride with the free rental bycicles into town and with the local train you can rich any further destination. we really enjoyed our stay here.

the place is beautiful!! you can easily relax. And you can use the bicycle so I ride to get to know some spots that I wanted to visit. The only thing I didn't put the max for staff is because it was self check in and check out. I was kind of scare to mess up, but it was actually pretty easy. They send to you clear instructions.

Super friendly staff. Even though there are no staff on site (reception 2 minutes walk away), they were amazingly responsive to my questions and handled things super quick (needed to ask for a knife for the kitchen). Atmosphere is really really chill. Not a party hostel, but a homey atmosphere in which to relax. Already extended several nights.

No dryer for clothes (well, for those who are staying for some days in autumn or winter). The house is in the insides of the community, but google will lead you there. No worries :))

Authentic Japanese house modified to include modern amenities- It is very nice. The first floor has a wide reception area, and a shared living room, kitchen, with a washing area, bathroom and comfort room. There is a small garden, but you'd rather stay inside because the weather was so cold to be outside (late autumn). There are available bikes for free use :) The rooms are shared, and I think just appropriate for the price. The house is clean and amenities work just fine.

Great traditional guesthouse not too far from Nishi-Maizuru station (10-15mn walk). The private room is lovely, with fresh smell of tatami. Jinbei and samue available on rent. Bikes also available.

U have to be very careful walking down the steep staircase to the bedroom, which isn’t unusual in Japan.

The hostel was comfortable and clean, the kitchen large and well equipped. Internet was good, and staff very nice and helpful.

Luckly, I stayed alone in the old building. The reception is in the new building and the staff taught me very well. It was clean, well managed japanese style guesthouse. I loved it!

Something you need to know before booking is that the stairs to get to the bedrooms are very steep and therefore not accessible to anyone with mobility issues. The smell of the tatami was very strong in the room. Somehow I thought the room we booked would have access to the terrace / garden, but you can only see it slightly from the window at day time. The check-in was a bit too long and the explanations were overly complicated. The quality of your sleep will depend on the other guests and how noisy they are walking around, closing doors, talking etc.

The room we booked was spacious. The house is cute, in a small town on a quiet street. There are a few restaurants nearby. The toilet and basins were newly renovated and very nice.
