Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CroatiaThe heater in the room only stays on for 3 hours before you need to reset it and it gets very cold when it goes off in the middle of the night.

Hong KongDue to lack of staff, storage of luggage can be issue for before check in or after check out. Also, rule of not allowed to use such as toilet or shower room after check out. Will be difficult such as planning the day trip ski on the day of check out.
I read comments and expected what the hostel like. Hostel also sent me communication of what is the rules. I accepted the way as an Hostel. For your comfortable stay, I will suggest bring your own cup, Tea or coffee mix, own toiletries. Such as No toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver, etc. provided. Overall, not bad experience if you can live with the rules. Location is convenient to train station, bus station (to snowmonkey, ski area, etc.), convenient store. Not far walking distance is a drug store almost like a mini supermarket. And, not far walking distance to a traditional onsen stree area.

CanadaIt is an old building wooden so don’t expect luxury. The only thing I would have enjoyed is the availability of some dishware in the limited kitchen area to make a cup of coffee or eat some cereal.
We had a great stay here. The property very close to the train station. We had our own 3 person traditional Japanese room, that was very clean and warm. Beds were mattresses on the floor and comfortable. Shared bathrooms were also very clean and convenient.

New ZealandVery great staff. The room is spacious and very close to the shuttle for shiga Kogen and the snow monkeys. There are good restaurants nearby as well. The rooms are a little cold as it is an older building but I do believe it's good value for what you pay.

New ZealandWifi a bit hit and miss on top floor, but worked perfectly the lounge area.
The room was beautiful; a wonderful Japanese room - exceeded expectations! Staff incredibly helpful, provided drying rack and extra heater to dry wet snow gear. Free 30mon bus from station to ski area. Very quiet at night, clean facilities and lovely Lounge area. Short walk to station and various food options. Not far to Shibu too and public onsen behind station. Really enjoyed our stay!

Czech RepublicBathroom could be a little bit more clean and also the main hall could use some renovation. But it's and old building so it has its magic ;-)
We stayed in traditional japanese style room with tatami mats on the floor. The room was very spacious, had closet for futons, but we used it also as closet to store our things. In the room we had small table with pillows, so it was also convenient to eat there. It's very close by Yamanouchi train station and few restaurants are also around. If you're around, dont forget to visit onsen (also allowed with small tatooes) which is attached to the train station.

United StatesThe walls were super thin but we knew that ahead of time. We had good quiet neighbors the first night. We had super load obnoxiously rude neighbors the last night. The beds were thin futons but we knew that ahead of time. The hostel was a little dusty but we knew that ahead of time.
The Spa that it had a relationship with up the road was totally worth the $6 fee. The location was super close to the bus station and local restaurants. The staff was very friendly though their English wasn't great, fortunately I speak Japanese.

United KingdomThe passcodes for the room locks follow a set pattern, so it is easy to work out the code for any room. This is a major security issue and needs to be rectified. The futons were thin and uncomfortable.
A convenient place to stay for an early start to get to Shiga Kogen ski resort.

- Spacious dorm room, we were a large group so we had booked the entire room for us. There was plenty of space to pack and unpack stuff, as well as hanging out. - Showers were warm - The staff were some of the kindest people we met in our entire Japan trip. A friend left behind his prescription glasses, and after contacting the hostel they helped ship them back to California!!! Legends - Useful advice about the different onsens around - Location was great, short walk to the train and bus station with a lawsons around the corner
