How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery welcoming and friendly staff, always ready to help you out! Super central position, well connected to the main central areas (city market, Jamia mosque, Kenyatta conference centre)
A bit noisy but it’s normal due to the position

Verified reviewGreat comprehensive breakfast. Wonderful location in the heart of the CBD close to everything.
To reach hotel wasn’t easy, signage was lacking and had to relie on directions from people. Greeted by very strong smell of smoke in the hallway on my way to the room. Facilities are also worn out and need some retouching.
Thanks for your feedback. We are planning a major refurbishment & we are also trying to relocate the smoking zone to another area away from the rooms

Verified reviewA very good hotel at an affordable price in the city, with Universities within walking distance. They exchange currency also giving a good price so you don't need to run here and there. Located in the city surrounded with markets and the Saturday Masai Market is walking distance. The in house restaurant offers the best food at an affordable price. Wonderful chef, lovely staff and very secured for even female solo travelers.
Only thing is that you don't get complimentary breakfast if you book through booking.com. if you book it directly with the hotel, you get that. However the breakfast comes for 500KSH and around 300 KSH, if it is half breakfast.
Thanks Kalapi and your group for the wonderful patronage, hope to see you soon. Karibu

Verified reviewLocation- it’s at the safari pick up point. Staff- friendly, easy check in and check out. Spacious room, but lack natural light despite having a small balcony.
Location- not the best neighbourhood. Dated room. Bed- I do like hard beds, but this one was something else… Shower court aim should be replaced ASAP.
Thanks for your feed back. We will work on your recommendations. Karibu

Verified reviewThe workers were all very polite and willing to assist
I did not like the fact that the room had no air conditioning
Thanks for your feedback. Most nights in Nairobi are cool and we rarely use Ac. We will try and fix some rooms with Ac, hopefully by the time you will be back

Verified reviewStaff at the Jamia Hotel are all very friendly and helpful. They were very accommodating when I had to check out earlier than I supposed to and they didn't overcharge me. The restaurant there has amazing and quite affordable food and the staff, likewise, are very friendly and nice. Location of the hotel is central at the heard of business district in Nairobi. Rooms are clean although a bit warm since there is no air-conditioning. All in all, it's definitely worth the price that you pay for.
There are no signs outside the Jamia shopping mal so upon arrival it might be a bit difficult to find the hotel. I had to ask one of the shop owners about the location and the guy wanted me money for just showing me where the hotel is (which is ofc not the hotel's fault but something to improve in terms of putting more signs outside).
# Many thanks for your feedback. The Nairobi County prohibit signages outside buildings in town but we are trying to work out on a solution. Sorry for the rudeness when you asked for direction, its an isolated incidence # We have already branded the glass door on the ground floor, you can easily see the signage as you drive along the mall. Verified reviewlocation was close to shops and it was in the city.
It was right next to the Mosque and it disturbed our sleep from early hours in the morning even just before bed time, it was so annoying I wish I knew this before I booked this place.
Thanks for your feedback and sorry about your experience. We have a whole wing away from the Mosque, next time kindly request a room away from the Mosque

Verified reviewIt’s hard to find something to like I don’t understand how the ratings are so high. I guess it was nice to have someone helping out to carry the luggage all the way up the stairs. The pillows were ok
Cockroaches, stained shower curtain, no effort in cleaning properly. Broken windows on balcony, not possible to smoke on the balcony. As a solo traveler and a woman I felt uncomfortable when the staff told my room number out loud for anyone to hear and I got some sleezy look from some guy sitting in the lobby.
Many thanks for your feedback, sorry that we did not meet your expectation as a traveler. Your concerns are very positive. We are doing a general departmental audit & the rooms, will address every bit you highlighted. We have always maintained a culture of being a lovely hotel to stay within the CBD. All our rooms including the balconies are non-smoking and have allocated a smoking area for the residents.

Verified reviewthe room was literally infested with cockroaches. The staff is unhelpful, rude and unprofessional. Keep in mind that you will be woken up every day at 5:30 am by the prayers of the muezzin. Your room is just opposite Jamia mosque
You were refused to enter the room with a female companion who did not have any documentation and you shouted at the receptionist & threatened to give a very bad review. Please note that its a government policy to document any visitor staying in Kenyan hotels & this is also for your safety. The same was explained to you at the reception. Thank you
