Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

KenyaAn excellent place to be when in your stay in Kisumu. They have welcoming staff and make you feel at home. Once that unfinished Mamboleo road is done, this will be an excellent place to be when always in Kisumu.

KenyaThere are a lot of mosquitoes yet the mosquiyo nets are torn and stained with blood. They need replacement. So many mosquitoes because the toilet windows are opened and made in such a way that they cant be closed.I tried and failed. The toilets need toilet brush .It takes too long for the stuff to go away .You need to use a lot of water.
The place was clean. The bedsheets were being washed frequently. Ie njoyed the site and also saw the crocodiles. It was very easy to connect to town since vehicles were just stopping by the gate. The water was hot and plenty of water.

KenyaSome rooms had quite high steps for wheelchair to be well accessible (it was mentioned it's wheelchair accessible).
The place was quiet when it came time to sleep. Good and safe parking. Food was well cooked and sweet. Water in plenty.

United StatesNothing much to complain about the price except for I did not expect that there would be no doors between the bedroom and the bathroom. Didn't see this in the reviews I read. I know the lady who checked me in at night said all rooms are like this but I think it would be nice to have at least a separating curtain between the room and bathroom. Also not a big big deal but they should wipe down the walls too. I think they clean the floors and surfaces daily but there was dust accumulation on the walls and in the corners. Also, it's FAR because part of the road leading there is bad and can be a little difficult to get to, especially after dark so keep that in mind. That said, from town, kisumu boys (Stage) there are matatus that can take you there for 50 - 70 shillings (No. 10 Gita, ask to be dropped at Mountainview/Mamba Village) and if you are coming from the airport, you can walk out the airport, get on a matatu or tuktuk to kisumu boys stage (CBD) which is about 40 shillings and then connect via matatu. Can also find your way to be dropped at the mamboleo stage roundabout from town and get on a boda which is between 30 - 50 from mamboleo roundabout to mountainview backpackers. Prices can go up when it rains too because of how bad the road is.
Honestly this place is total value for money! Staff is also fantastic and very accommodating. Enjoyed my time here.

United StatesI didn't like there was an upcharge for a room with hot water. The online price was not honored. One assumes hot water is included with a room unless noted on the site.
Breakfast was made with love and great portions.

KenyaAs advertised there were no bike rentals, children’s playground, bbq and the rooms were not as advertised! My family and I stayed in a comfortable dorm with two double decker beds! It was workable but not what we thought we would get! We also paid more for the accommodations but it was fair for both parties
The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating

KenyaA TON of insects (mostly mosquitoes) around so you have to prepare yourself for that. I had the misfortune of arriving quite late at night during a huge storm so it wasn't the best, and there wasn't any sheltered path to reach the dorm and the grounds were all muddy. No wifi throughout the entire time I stayed there either unfortunately.
I booked a dorm bed and fortunately got the entire room to myself. Mosquito net was there but quite difficult to get full coverage around. Shower had hot water and was generally quite pleasant. Location was a bit hard to reach by boda because of the road quality, but if you can take a matatu, it's quite affordable. Some nice places to eat just on the main street about a 10-15 min walk from the hostel. Staff were quite helpful and let me store my bags there after I checked out and would answer my questions.
