How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice location and spacious rooms. It’s just outside Tsavo West national park gate and also very close to the nearest gate to Tsavo East national park (approx 10-15min drive). Staff is very friendly and restaurant serves great food. We especially loved the lounge chairs on the private balcony attached to the tent from where you can see the nearby river (we saw some pretty big crocs).

Verified reviewIf you are reading this review, stop debating and book Maneaters! Our stay was nothing short of magical, an unforgettable experience where we were truly cared for from start to finish. A heartfelt thank you to Rose, Rosemary, and Rubin, our fantastic safari driver who also ensured seamless transportation to and from the train in Voi. And the wildlife? Absolutely breathtaking! Watching elephants, monkeys, and crocodiles up close so near you could almost reach out and touch them was simply incredible.

Verified reviewLittle bungalows (stable tents) at a fantastic location just along the Tsavo river. It is wonderful to watch the river and monkeys playing in it. The location along the route Mombasa Nairobi is great. The staff was super nice! Great value for money.
Internet access in the tents would be great. The food could have been a bit more interesting, but what I liked is that you can order and it’s not a buffet.

Verified reviewLovely location by the bank of Tsavo river, about 500m from the original train station that could be seen in the Ghost and the Darkness film. Lovely walk by the river and an interesting narration of causes for lion attack by the local ranger.

Verified reviewThe terrace in front of the room was excellent to watch animals coming to the river. The room is functional furnished with a big confortable bed and even reading lights inside the mosquito net (well thought). The location between the Tsavo East and West NP is great and the story of the railway (old station, museum) interesting. The food was served as buffet (breakfast, dinner). The staff is very attentive and helpful. The lodge organised us on request a transfer from Voi and a game drive.
I have read that in some rooms you can hear the train passing, which was not the case for our room. We only heard the nature!

Verified reviewThe pool and the location is very good but needs a warning that to get to the hotel is quite hard as it is situated in the middle of nowhere. Some signs need to be put for the better understanding of the road
It was hard to get asleep at night because of the very noisy fan and the nature around

Verified reviewThe lodge is located close to the main road just at the bank of a river .We spotted monkeys ,a crocodile and a hippo at the river. One of the rangers fed the crocodile with fresh meat steak. It was so exciting to watch. Generally the lodge has a beautiful scenery, Fresh meals were served on time .The staff are warm and hospitable.
The toilet at the tent where I slept with my kids was stinking.unfortunately, I was not able to provide the lodge with this important feedback .Nonetheless the tented rooms are good, comfortable and spacious and with solar power 24hrs.

Verified reviewIt is run down, and aparantly going throug renovation, so you can see and feel the potential, but it needs some funds. But staff are helpfull and smilling.
Since my train didin't leave Voi, until 1800, but checkout was at 1030, the staff told me, I could just stay a few ours longer, there were only one other couple staying at the lodge, so there was no need to rush out of the rooms. I paid for transport, and bought a safari (Ruben, the driver, was exellent, but on every trip, I had to sit and hold the cardoor closed, because it kept opening on it's own, pretty scary, driving on Mombase road, doing the night, and the door is wide open), so I thought it would just be a nice service. When leaving, they charged me 1 extra night, even though we are talking 4 hours, in the same room, after their own suggestion, and in all, I stayed at the logde under 24 hours, but had to pay for 2 full days. So even though friendly, it seems to be a scam. The food was disapointing.

Verified reviewEverything about this place was exceptional. The welcoming staff, communication prior to arrival, the support they gave us arranging pick ups and drop offs. The food was fantastic, the best we had in Kenya. Our rooms were comfortable, clean and welcoming. The views from the balcony and pool area/ restaurant across the Tsavo River and national park was idyllic. We saw elephants, lizards, baboons and crocodile from our room. Peaceful and tranquil place to stay. Our game driver Alan was so lovely and knowledgeable about the animals we saw. We had a fabulous safari with him and can't recommend him enough. The pool, table tennis, pool table was great for our teens too. We will definitely be recommending this place and hope tp return one day. Only regret is that we would have stayed for longer if we could. Stay here, seriously, you will not regret it! Jess & Lloyd, Reuben, Elijah and Zach
Nothing. Having to leave!

Verified reviewI can highly recommend the place for everyone looking for a nature retreat at it's best. For us, self-drivers (yes, it's absolutely possible in Kenya! ), the location was just spot on - close to the gates of both East and West Tsavo, and great for spotting the animals from the balcony at the same time. Crocodiles, elephants, baboons and monkeys are just a few examples. The staff is friendly and helpful, food is fresh and plentiful, drinks are fairly priced, tents and pool in a good condition.
Nothing that can get me upset. If you stay in the nature, some things are more or less clear to me beforehand - bumpy road, or natural noises in the night (earplugs are helpful) are to be expected.
