Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

KenyaThe room was a little cramped. Also the toilet in the room could use solid wood doors (to confine the blast!) rather than louvres.
Breakfast - great. All food was great. The view from the room was exceptional. Also enjoyed the room's character.

UkraineThe hotel location is wonderful! The second time after eight years visited Mara Serena. Amazing safaris even during the rain season. Special respect to guides- drivers! Mozes brought us on the muddy broken road to see the lion pride on the short distance! Special respect! Only small remark to the administration: don’t save the money for the African local fruit- more mangos, papayas, pine apples….! And every customer will be happier!🙂😇

United KingdomI think more transparency is needed on the Masai Mara park fees. I know this isn't the hotels responsibility but it would be helpful to be told the cost when booking or note it clearly on the booking.com description or the hotel website. Guests can then make a clear decision on how long they want to stay knowing all the costs upfront. The park fees feel very confusing and I'm still perplexed as to what they are as we paid less than I was expecting!
The hotel is in the most fantastic location and you don't need to drive through any park gates as you're in the heart of the action. The views across the Mara Triangle are incredible, we could see elephants and giraffes from the terrace and from our bedroom. The food was far better than I expected and plenty of choice for vegetarians. Booking game drives was really simple and we loved every minute of our drives. The hotel seemed really good value compared to others I looked at. Quite simply it was a trip of a lifetime.

BelgiumThe food could be better, it was good but for the night price, we had better experiences during our Kenyan trip. The games rides are quite expensive but we had an excellent guide. No AC so rooms can be a bit hot at night only with the fan.
Exceptional location and view, friendly staff, the buildings are much better than they look on photos, the place has a lot of charm and soul. You feel remote in the nature of Maasai Mara. The pool is amazing with the view and heated.

United KingdomCleanliness was good, but could be a bit better. A lot of the food was rather spiced and I’d have appreciated bottled water to be included in the price with our meals rather than having to pay extra. No iron in the room, nor ability to iron yourself. Wifi was ok,but would go on and off when overused (when people were back from game drives).
View from the lounge area (we could see wildebeest, elephants or giraffes in the distance) and room (could watch the sunrise there). The authentic interior design. The baboons and warthogs wandering around. The spa massage. Even though we didn’t go with the hotel’s game drivers or rangers (we had transfers and driver from Nairobi throughout our stay), based on what other visitors’ experience with them, they seem to have been much better than our driver/guide, so I’d definitely recommend going with the hotel’s/local game drivers.

Germany- if anything would be the price. It’s definitely one of the most expensive hotels during our trip. But it is busy season and location is in the park. I would still recommend this lodge without any doubts.
-location , in the middle of Masai Mara - food , very good quality and also selection of meals - staff , super friendly and also honest. My husband forgot his wallet in the restaurant and they called and delivered the wallet immediately to our room. It would be a disaster as all documents are in that wallet. We do appreciate how honest the staff there .
