How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOl Tukai is a delightful lodge set in a perfect location in the middle of the Amboseli park where elephants walk right past the fence across the lawn! The magnificent Kilimanjaro mountain rises in the distance and the staff could not be nicer! Food is buffet style and plentiful, the pool a wonderful place to cool off in between twice daily game drives (extra), which are a must. It’s such a beautiful place.
I had to pay extra for cappuccino at breakfast but honestly you can’t fault anything here.
Thank you so much Maryloo for all the positive feedback and choosing to stay with us We do appreciate so much and we look forward to host you again.

Verified reviewThe personal and their service was excellent. The room was okay and the food was just okay.
Being in many hotels and resorts, I wonder why they don't even offer free water for the diner. I understand that you need to pay for drinks when you have the full arrangement, but water?

Verified reviewComfortable beds.
We stayed at 5 different places during our safari trip and this is the worst of all. The reception staff intended to fool us by giving me a much cheaper and smaller room instead of what I paid for. We booked a triple room that furnished with three REAL beds, but with no communication the staff wanted gave us a double room with an extra temporary bed. Once they took us to the wrong room I found out the room type didn’t match to our booking, staff (name Edward) didn’t admit this and claimed he just wanted to shorten our waiting time. That’s so RIDICULOUS as there’s a huge price and size difference of the two rooms. And these unsatisfactory service was all been done EVEN if other triple rooms (what we have booked) were ready. After a 20 minutes wait, Edward still insisted there’s no room ready for us. I pointed out that there are other triple rooms ready with their doors opened and ready for service. Edward handled the situation horribly, with a bad, sarcastic and arrogant attitude claiming that he ‘actually wanted to give us a better room but he will not anymore.’ He then offered other guests, who came later than us, to check in in rooms that were just ready and with a better view (front row) even that we came earlier and have waited for more then 30mins at this point. Other staff came to apologize to us and asked us not to leave a negative review, and trying to offer us a bottle of wine. We didn’t take any gifts and I do think the future guests deserve to know what may happen to them. No one actually apologised for Edward’s extremely arrogant service and this was surely the worst day of our trip in Africa.

Verified reviewLocation, lodging and staff are great. Elephants walk past the fence and a beautiful clear view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Very conveniently located inside Amboseli National Park. The beds are extremely comfortable - I didn’t want to leave
The food could be updated to a more modern menu.

Verified reviewGreat location.
The service before arrival was absolutely horrible. Just by luck I found out that you cannot buy entry to Amboseli Nat Park with credit card at the entrance. I called the lodge about it and the lady promised to call back on Sunday, the day before arrival. She never called to give advice or instructions. Without advice from a friend, the whole trip would be a disaster. That means it would not happen. You really need to wake up!

Verified reviewThe location is excellent, with Mt Kilimanjaro on one side and the "elephant" lake/swamp on the other. Nice grounds (though some parts a little smelly due to drainage or sewerage issues) and good views. Easy to get around the Amboseli National Park.
1. Previous reviews on food were good, but we found it decidedly mediocre. We spoke to staff about it and it seems they have had some departures that have resulted in this. There is no creativity, no matching of food types, very little real variation - just a lot of the standard basic fare that "might" appeal to a wide range of people. A pastry chef is badly needed - all breads and pastries were between sub-standard and inedible. As a Kenyan I was sad that there was no attempt to sample the wide and rich culinary delicacies from around our country - as an example, if all pastries were replaced with properly-made items from the Coast, all visitors would be quite impressed (and learn a little more about Kenyan Coastal culture)! 2. Pictures of the lobby/dining area belie the fact that they are quite basic - a little effort on interior décor (particularly matching Kenyan art and furniture, rather than anything that is mildly African thrown in together) would make a big difference. Rooms are better, but also quite basic - some effort on the looks and small touches like Kenyan flowers, fruit could bring them to a higher level of design and luxury. 3. The rooms could definitely be kept cleaner and with less insects, spiders, cobwebs, geckos...

Verified reviewGreat hotel to stay in amboseli, I like the gardens, the view on kili the morning, and the monkeys playing in the hotel. Amazing staff very friendly, thanks for the special attention for our Honeymoon.
Just outside the hotel, there is abandoned lodges. The park should remove those.

Verified reviewThe location is great (you can see the elephants from the restaurant), very central in the park. Staff is friendly. Lunch and dinner is very good. There are al lot of options for vegetarians. Rooms are clean. The pool isvery nice, you could spot a lot of animals from there.
You cannot leave a door open (beacause of monkeys etc.). Could only open one window (that did have a sceen against bugs), so the rom gets very hot and stuffy. It would be better if they would equip more windows / doors wits screens, so you could ventilate (and cool down) the room better.
