Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GreeceThe room does not have mosquito screens on the windows and, as a result, a lot of mosquitoes gather inside. Although the bed has a large mosquito net, outside of the bed it is quite uncomfortable. Finally, the bathroom facilities (toilet, shower, and hot water) need maintenance.
A truly beautiful building, with a comfortable room and a very nice bed! The common areas are also lovely. The breakfast was very good and Moses makes sure to take care of everyone.

KenyaA little upgrade to the rooftop lounge would do wonders to the place.
Moses was such a darling, he took into consideration all of our requests. And the breakfast selection was quite good. The location of the place was also very convenient, just a few minutes' walk to most of the main sites around lamu.

United Arab EmiratesThe bathroom needs proper cleaning and disinfectant, there was residual of something in the shower, the shower head is absolutely clogged and rusty. The bedroom needs better airflow or ac, couldn’t sleep because of the heat and was sweating all night long, my only moments of relief was when the wind would blow. There’s a lot of flies in the dining area, I would suggest getting nets for the windows and door or some fly traps at least. The place has a lot of dust in high area, which due to my height I’m able to see easily and had someone that has allergies it’s not the best.
Absolutely beautiful, only of the best looking properties I’ve ever stayed at, the property manager was a rockstar, made sure we didn’t get scammed, made arrangements for us from and to the airport as a well as sunset boat trip and other queries we had. The floor in the main area is always clean. Beautiful view, a genuine experience.

United StatesMy only minor criticism was that my room felt a bit far from the main house especially the dining area and the rooftop lounge. Though I enjoyed the added privacy it was a task to access the rest of the house. The WiFi signal in the room was a little weak as well
Katana my host at Samaki House was exceptionally kind and knowledgeable of the area. We had lovely conversations and he made a delicious breakfast. I enjoyed the room and the my overall experience at the house, I will definitely stay again!

Breakfast was great.. Moses is a gem. Great view of the channel and Lamu town. Feels like a garden house with all the plants and flowers. Nothing bougie nor fancy but fit for purpose if you're on a low budget.

United Arab EmiratesMosque wakes everyone up at 4:30am with extremely loud prayer calls. Crazy, total disrespect for tourists and although this is not the host's fault, it's a massive drawback.

United KingdomNot all the rooms had mosquito netting which made quite a hot stay uncomfortable and the biggest issue. Property does need some TLC and the location is convenient for museums but not beaches/for a leisure stay.
Beautiful property with basic amenities and Moses was very helpful. Breakfast is mainly fruit and toast which was lovely.

South AfricaOne of the mosques is pretty much next door - the prayers are a wonderful cultural component of Lamu and absolutely expected whereve you stay - but unfortunately this particular Imam sang for a good 2-3 hours, loudly, from 4am. Apparently this only happens on Thursdays - the locals have complained and written letters about it. We embraced the experience, but it was a bit of a shock to the system.
It is a truly beautiful swahili building, with wonderful staff. Lamu is an exceptional cultural experience, and the house is right in the centre of it. The rooftop is a wonderful place to relax, with views of the town, and a good respite from the heat. The breakfast was really good, you won't get a typical "continental" breakfast anywhere in Lamu, but you can expect fresh fruit, good plunger coffee and some eggs & toast, prepared by the staff with such love and care.

KenyaI personally thought there would be two clean beds in the family room as booked, but in fact there was only one double bed and the other was up to our request. I was hesitant to sleep on the couch there or use an extra bed brought from somewhere else. That would be helpful if you had informed in advance but all in all, our stay there was wonderful.
The location was good and convenient for tourists. Staff was kind and guided us from the wharf to the hotel. The view from the rooftop was amaizing!!

KenyaIt was a bit noisy, as people would be playing music on the street below our room. It was also sometimes a bit smokey around our room as some people were burning stuff nearby.
James was an excellent host. He made the best Spanish omelets ever and let us have breakfast whenever we wanted. There was a nice relaxing terrace with a hammock and an amazing view where James would bring us our breakfasts.
