Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceAnut & John are exceptional, hidden gems of Battambang. Thanks to them, so friendly and caring, I had a wonderful stay at their Guesthouse. No one in the next room, the bathroom was just for me. Very good "Amok" and organic mixed fruit juice. Motorbike rental at your doorstep.

SpainThese guys are fantastic, this is not a guesthouse but a home. Life is just easy at Bar Ang, you have everything you can possibly need when traveling. Anut and John’s hospitality and thoughtfulness are hard to describe, they just put so much of their hearts into this place. Definitely a highlight of our trip. The guesthouse, the scooters, the food, the help, the morning coffees, the noodle breakfasts, the stories, Anut’s smile and most of all, the company of these two- we are so grateful to have come across this place. Thank you guys 🙂

LithuaniaI had a very nice stay at the Bar Ang guesthouse, the owners were very welcoming, took me out for breakfast as they don't prepare it there, and I also did the countryside tour with them, which was a great insight into a local life and beautiful views. The room was clean and spacious enough, and as there were no other guests at the time, I had a private bathroom with no need to share it.

United StatesNothing not to like. It’s not right in the downtown area but i was renting a scooter and had access any time i needed it to go wherever. If you get in after 11 or so, you’ve got to deal with unlocking and relocking the front gates. But that just makes you appreciate the security on the property.
A very hospitable and easy-going environment. It’s family run, with a beautiful covered patio upstairs that serves a modest menu and drinks. They literally trust you to tally your own beers and waters if you’re there after hours. They have a large inventory of scooters for rent and a wealth of information about the area and Cambodian culture in general. They can book you a bus to the major destinations and it will come to the hotel. Ask Anut about her favorite breakfast spot!

JapanThe hosts and staff were very friendly, kind and fun to hang out with. The room has everything you need; good AC, comfortable bed, hot shower, and the attached bar & restaurant serves tasty homemade food. You can tell they focus on quality rather than profit, making everything from scratch and using ingredients grown themselves or purchased from the local market when in season. The hosts are happy to help you plan things to do in the Battambang area, organize bus travel and if there is a chance they will show you some local life. We had a delicious breakfast at the market, a fun coffee shop experience and heard a lot of interesting stories. We had already booked our bus ticket with VET and they still called the bus company to organize a free pick up from their guesthouse - thank you so much! The service and quality here is something special and we are really glad we chose to stay. Looking forward to returning in the future!

United KingdomNothing at all.
Wow. I don’t think I can conjure the words to truly describe my experience at Bar Ang Guesthouse. From the moment I made my booking John and Anut (J&A) were welcoming and attentive. The couple really do go above and beyond for each and every guest. I was unwell during the first two nights of my stay and J&A became my parents away from home. They made sure I had everything I needed, ensuring I was hydrated and fed. I’m convinced Anut is a master of medicine, she had tips and tricks that helped speed up my recovery. Tips and tricks that I will implement into my daily routine and keep with me for life!! The room was better than expected for $10 a night - plenty of room for my luggage, comfortable bed, strong AC and a fan. The shared bathroom was cleaned daily and had toilet paper, hand soap and a shower with good water pressure and HOT WATER! It is one bathroom between two rooms, which is unheard of for such a price. A kettle and drinking water is also available for use. Location is good too. A little bit of a walk into the centre but J&A rent scooters which make it easy to get around. If you don’t ride scooters, like me, then J&A try their best to accommodate for you too, helping to book tuktuks or even a late night drive to the ATM (thank you!!!). Finally the food in their restaurant upstairs - THE FOOD!! I ate here twice during my stay and which I had time to try more of their dishes. Each dish was full of flavour and love. Some of the best food I have had on my trip so far and I’ve been in SEA for 3 months! Don’t let the price put you off, it is still far cheaper than we pay in Europe for mediocre food! J&A help to make your stay as authentic as possible. The morning trip to a local market for a UNESCO recognised breakfast was a highlight of my stay. We got to walk through the market before enjoying breakfast and then going to a local cafe for a coffee.

CanadaIt was a bit far from town. Not because of the distance but because of the heat. But I did manage to get into town every day.
John and Anut were amazing hosts. They made sure you're a well cared for. Went out for coffee in the morning, got some breakfast at the local market. Even took me on an outing for the day to their second property in the country. Anut, John and I had some great conversations. I hung out with Kimlang and UTI in the gardens. Kimlang is an excellent cook. I would highly recommend meal there. The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. And they were just nice people to hang out with. He will just love a Anut's smile.

Overall impressions: The best place to stay in Battambang with our 4 year-old son....and maybe in all of Cambodia - welcoming and cozy environment, incredible hosts who bring so much character to the place and delicious food! The best Amok I've tried in Cambodia (we've been in Cambodia for a month). The portions are big and so worth the $6. There is also an incredible gym nearby - brand new and cheap that we went to, which made this whole experience absolutely great!! Our more detailed review: We went to Bar Ang for 1 night and stayed for four - could have stayed so much longer!! Karaoke in the evenings with cocktails, relaxed vibe, delicious meals, little kids who played with our son the entire time. A dream place!! The music and noise (if it is going on) is promptly stopped at 11pm, so everyone can get a good rest. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with working AC. Two rooms per flat share a shower/toilet! Hot shower! Fresh drinking water was provided free of charge!! John and Anut (owners) made us feel like family! They took us to their farm in the countryside and showed us all the local markets and places in Battambang....out of the goodness of their hearts! We had traditional Battambang noodles for breakfast with Anut and the kids at the local market - they were amazing! We were the only tourists there. Anut is an amazing chef - so much love and care goes into her dishes! Anut and John made us feel so welcomed and truly like we were part of their family! We've been travelling around south-east Asia for 2 months and this is the first time we felt sad to leave!... Having little kids around (Uti 10 and Kumlang 13) who lived at Bar Ang (relatives to Anut) and spoke English, meant that our son had friends to play with all day/evening long and we had quality grown up time (to relax and unwind). We highly recommend this place, especially if travelling with young children. We will definitely come back!

United Kingdomamazing host, adapted to our needs and it's very well value for the price of the room. quaint spot with bar located on the upstairs terrace, street view (people watching) on one side and view onto the garden on the other, beautiful to enjoy some green and pretty quiet (no street noises that I noticed) whilst in the city, in walking distance to the circus school. if you want recommendations and enjoy spending time with your host, he will happily show you around the countryside and go for breakfast at the market. good vibes in the evening shaking your own cocktails for fun. will stay again!

FranceThe hospitality, kindness and availability of the hosts Anut and John made our stay perfect. They offer to share their breakfast with them at the local market and they make us discover the daily life of the Khmers in Battambang. They have their hearts on their sleeve and provide support to the surrounding populations. Anut is a very good cook and we loved tasting her great dishes. Little bonus on the last evening with a nice karaoke in the company of John. Thank you again for this stay, we will recommend you to all those who go to Battambang.

ItalyThe room has no windows; three keys, none of wich close the door of the room. Moreover, my friend and I didn’t have a nice experience, but it’s important to say that we stayed just one night, in a terrible day for our host. Sometimes it happens. We are sorry and we wish to him and his family the best. When we arrived, he was away. We checked in with two nice women who didn’t speak English, then we went out to visit the city. After dinner, we were back. It was dark, we went to the terrace. A young girl come to us asking to pay the room. I don’t know how do you behave when an unknown teenager asks you for money, but we all agree to wait for her parents, the next morning. Then our host arrived screaming to pay immediately, very upset, and it was impossible to argue with him. He also said that we have clogged the toilet, and that was true, so we offered our help; anyway, the problem was solved quickly. Again, he had a terrible day and asked to excuse him, but we were treated like thieves. We paid you not because you screamed, but because we are honest. You could ask for advance payment, or leave someone at your structure to check in appropriately, or write me information about payment. If you’re away, you could also keep your guest house closed. We did everything by ourself, the breakfast, the check out, the bus reservation.
The bed was comfortable, the area quiet; there is a nice terrace where you can chill.

United KingdomNo coffee available! I love a morning coffee or two but none available on site. Every other similar accommodation in Cambodia offered coffee either a satchet in the room or making a fresh cup. I don't mind paying. Having a restaurant on site a coffee would be nice. The security brief was a bit intense. I had 4 different keys to gain access to my room late evening but not allowed to lock my room door. Told several times if arriving late, after 10 pm, ensure we lock the the gate using the two padlocks. Told do not lock the internal bedroom locks as they can stay stuck and not open, this instruction is hand written on the internal doors.. The door into where the two rooms were located was a full metal door that clanged when closing and I felt locked in. If you were not travelling with the guests in the other room who share the door and area it could get a bit complicated. Advised to ensure the metal door stays closed as rats and mice can get in as they want the rice that is stored beside the bedrooms. Just think this could be managed better and communicated better and less of placing a high level of concern.
The owners were so friendly and gave us lots of advice. They offered to take us to a local market for a local breakfast experience but we didn't make that. We rented scooters for a good price and the owners always open for a chat. The restaurant food is just amazing. Owners even arranged the coach and early tuk tuk collection.
