Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaThe restaurant ran out of stock of many basics such as fruits, bread, etc. on day two. There are also a number of minor broken items. For example, the 1 step into the ocean is missing, which will take 15 minutes to fix or broken loungers lying on the deck or mildew on the bathroom walls which just needs a wipe.
The venue has a lovely rustic charm, and the staff are super friendly. We had a sea view and rooms were clean. We paid 18$ per night, which is fair value for a simple backpacker style room.

United KingdomThere was only a fan for AC and quite often was disturbed by the animals living outside, with a rat actually coming into our room! But that’s to be expected on a remote island I guess! It was also a bit of a walk to a more lively part of the beach but that’s fine if you want a relaxing stay.
It was a lovely place, with very nice receptionists and workers.

United StatesThey are working on getting air-conditioning in the huts. The internet is a little patchy at times.
Dan, the owner/operator/manager took care of all my needs. He went out of his way to accommodate my special requirements. He also arranged to and fro transfers from the airport/ferry terminal/ferry to island pier and the hotel / guest house. The location is excellent with fantastic views of the beach and bay. The staff at the bar and restaurant, particularly Gabriel from Italy were excellent. Excellent conversations with both Dan and Gabriel. If you want peace and quiet, go to the beach and/or just chill on a hammock in the balcony of your little bungalow/hut or out by the beach, forget all your worries for the interim, then this is the place for you!

NorwayI am not a bungalow person😅 so my fault. You get a bit of ants and geckos that want to keep you company, but not worse than I still enjoyed my stay. And no ac, just fans. Was ok.
Superhelpful staf, from information before I got there, getting the right ferry, pick up at pier because of my big suitchase. Good food. Good value for money compared to other options on the island.

United KingdomNothing to complain about. The moto taxi to Sunset beach was scary 😨 and the lads did well. The stone descent into the Bay was challenging 😳, the return back up was better then I thought. Took us about 30 mins. Snorkelling on Sunset as amazing. No live corals but loads of fish. Sandy beach was a 2 hour walk, also hard going in the heat 🥵 🔥 ☀️ but was worth it. A boat ride back recommended. Ask at The Tube Reception.
The location. Right on the end of the beach. If you can get their boat to fetch you. Great. From the pier. Soon Noeg. ,The CMR speedy boat was great. The staff were absolutely brilliant, kind, helpful with ferry ticket, moto taxis. Wasn't overpriced for what you get overall at the bungalows. Food was good, but not great. BBQ. chips and salad was the best. Good for chicken & ginger, spicey beef and also omelette in the morning The Khmer food was good. Burger is a little disappointing. Needed a good sauce in it. Our bungalow was next to the restaurant, handy and still got the WiFi. The chalet was a little tired. If you can get to other beaches go. All wonderful. As was Art's Sky Bar near to the stunning Sandy Beach. Lovely 😍 people of all ages and nationality here at Mangrove. Fantastic spot for children to paddle, play with the puppy. Wonderful resident dogs 🐕

United KingdomNo hot water, no kettle and the location are the biggest things. It was a 30 minute walk to the nearest restaurant (although there is a restaurant onsite serving good food, but sometimes its nice to eat somewhere else). The unit I stayed in was rather tired.
The staff are all lovely here. Compared to what other resorts are charging, it is a reasonably priced option.

IndonesiaIt is far to walk to other places on the island.
Mangrove Beach Bungalows is managed by a colourful group of people who constantly work on improving the area. The food is good, the location beautiful, the people are friendly. Yes, it's a bit back to basic. But if you don't like that, the entire island is probably not for you.

United KingdomLots of people smoking everywhere with no designated area, also cigarette butts on the ground. We also had to watch the ground as there were lots of can ring pulls which were sharp. We did have some difficulty ordering food, the language barrier got a few incorrect orders unless Sam served us. Not a huge issue but could easily be resolved.
Fab location. Peaceful and very natural. Particularly liked the Coconut Curry! Sam was very helpful and spoke great English. Lots of places to sit and relax. Kids loved the shallow and calm sea to play. Room was simply but great fun, we didn’t mind a few of natures beasts sharing the room.

ItalyVery nice and quiet location at the end of the long sandy beach. Be ready to walk if you are looking for food and restaurants, although they have a restaurant themselves, too. Very cheap prices, bungalows are very basic however (with possibility that small animals come in through the many holes in walls and floor)

IranWe had a great time at this hotel. It was well-located on the island, and the friendly staff made our stay even more enjoyable. One of the highlights of the hotel was the chef, who prepared a variety of delicious Cambodian and Western dishes at reasonable prices. From this hotel, you have good access to other attractions on the island via walking. The rooms are simple but very comfortable. The view of the sea from the hotel is beautiful, although the beach is usually shallow and may not be ideal for swimming."

United KingdomNothing.
I throughly enjoyed my stay at Mangrove Bungalows. So much, that I extended my stay twice. Very peaceful location at the end of the Saracen Bay, away from party places and the noise. My bungalow had everything that I needed, huge super comfy bed with mosquito net, a table, a mirror, a couple of chairs on the porch, as well as the hammock. There’s chickens wandering around the property, which gives it a lovely rustic feel. They have the sweetest dogs you can imagine (and I’m not a dog person!). Good Wifi - although the signal can be temperamental, I was able to work online. Good menu with some very tasty options and very reasonable prices. I loved Khmer curry and chicken & cashew dish - a must try. Absolutely wonderful staff, the family that runs it are very sweet and helpful. Great outside area with many hammocks, swings, tables and chairs and outside showers. This part of the beach may not be the most accessible, but all you have to do is walk just a few minutes. Great view of the entire Saracen Bay. And yes, like some of the previous reviews mentioned, the bathrooms may look a bit tired and in need of refreshing, but they were fully functional and clean. If you are looking for luxury or a party place, this place may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a peaceful, affordable accommodation to chill and enjoy the island - you’ve found the right place!
