How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Because it’s a small hostel they do group tours but they don’t run very day. I did one at another larger one and it was great tho. Not the most secure hostel. There’s no keys and you can just walk off the street and access the hostel which is a plus or negative depending on how you view it

Verified reviewYou get very good value for your money here at Social Backpacker Hostel. The bathrooms are clean and they help you with guided tours and transportation via buses to neighbouring cities. They also provide scooters for rent which is really helpful. The mini pool table is fun to play with.
They charge a small amount for drinking water which I found a little weird.

Verified reviewIt’s a small family business and they would do everything to make your stay even better. You can ask everything and they are always in for a conversation. We arrived at 7 am and it was possible to go in the room, even if the check in time was 2 pm.
They still can improve some things and grow, but they are just starting so it has big potential with all the love they put in the hostel!

Verified reviewAmazing people - the tour guide was incredible when I did the full day tour and had the best time. So kind - I had an issue with my bus and he took me to the bus station free of charge to help me sort it and everyone has been so hospitable whilst I’ve been here. I recommend 10/10

Verified reviewThe hostel is located close to the main market. Even though is not far from the bus station they offer a free pick up from there to the location. Very well organized tours around the city with professional and knowledgeable guides. Also the owner was very kind and extremely helpful in all I needed, like organizing my bus, offering “family dinner” to meet other travelers and local tips for some shopping and buaty treatments!

Verified reviewThis property was not my first choice. It has seen better days. I was the only guest in the dorm and it didn’t seem very clean. There was just a strong odor in the room that I couldn’t handle. Because it was so cheap I actually ended up leaving and finding somewhere else to stay.

Verified reviewNot a bad place, though I felt it was overrated by other reviewers. Just okay one.
The room was extremely small — really, uncomfortably so. The bathrooms were quite odd: two of them were almost connected without separation, and a third one didn’t even have a sink to wash your hands. The staff didn’t seem friendly to me at all — every interaction felt like they were doing me a favor. Overall, it was okay. Nothing terrible, but absolutely nothing to get excited about either.

Verified reviewI liked the owner/manager of the property. It has been a very comfortable stay. They have family dinner every day wherein everyone who's staying can contribute a small amount and have dinner together. They also help us arrange a city tour. He is very energetic and assists as and when required.

Verified reviewEasy to find, was just a 10 min walk from the VET bus stop. Beds were comfortable. Air cond was really cold and good. 2 bathrooms only on the 1st floor for so many beds but they were clean. Overall loved it. Staff were friendly too.
