Reviews of Sulu Hostel

I had a wonderful stay at sulu Hostel ! The location is excellent, very close to the main landmarks of Astana, which made it easy to explore the city. The hostel was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described.I even added a second night there. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Astana.

Modern, clean place. Private room with window was nice.

Probably the two things I’d improve are: 1: the bed was a bit uncomfortable, you could feel the springs a bit. They could do with replacing but not massively uncomfortable. 2: AC would not be a bad idea. I heard others in a room without a window got quite hot overnight. There were a few broken door mechanisms etc as well in the shared toilets, so this could be fixed.

The cost benefit was good, the facilities were clean, and other guests were extremely quiet. I needed to check in at 4 AM and there was not an issue. The address on Google maps is kind of weird, it makes you drive through some roadwork instead of the easy way.

The employees are very unhappy there, and I don't blame them. I used to work for a five-star hotel, and I would say this place seriously lacks motivation. Of course I don't expect five star service in a hostel but still this is a hospitality business so I'd say they really need motivation. The male receptionist was kind enough to offer me a tourist guide booklet and a map, and the female receptionist helped me book a taxi — both of which I appreciated. The cleaning team is doing a good job, as the place is very clean.

Now for the very disappointing part. I requested an early check-in, and while I understood that rooms might not be available as early as 5:30 a.m., I wasn’t allowed to check in until past 1 p.m., despite several empty rooms being visible in the morning. I had to sleep in the café and lobby area like a homeless person. People there are not friendly or accommodating. The rooms are small and you can hear all the noise from outside. Despite the fact that there were empty rooms on the quieter side near the female restroom, they placed me in a room next to the laundry room and the male toilet. As a result, I was woken up early by noise from the laundry area. And some male guests kept their room doors open for ventilation. They could have placed me near female restroom and not with the men. I could understand this if there were no empty rooms on that other side but i checked and rooms were empty there.

The best price quality ratio I've seen out of the more than hundred hostels I've been to. Friendly check-in, cozy common area, amazing bathroom design, comfy room, pleasant lighting.
