How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was a good stay. It’s on the calmer site of the island. The room was cute, they provide a mosquito net on your bed. They have a restaurant that you can eat for cheap and they do bicycle rentals!
thank you so much 💓 💗

Verified reviewVery friendly and welcoming. Good food and nice views from the adjoining restaurant.
Sorry to say there were lots and lots of ants. Don't even think of opening food in your room. Trying to hide it from them, like by re-wrapping it tightly in plastic, won't work. The ants will know and will march into action instantly.

Verified reviewAccommodation was really cheap.
We didn't expect to be surrounded with screaming kids the whole time. The only silent hours are in the night between 9pm until 5 am. After 5 the family wakes up and the kids too! The bungalows are not soundproof, obviously. But we rented this places because most reviews said it is calm here. The kids screaming and crying constantly, their parents don't bother to shut them up. I was not able to sleep here any of the 5 nights, because of the hard bed and constant noises. Motorbikes passing by or stop and don't turn off the bike. 🛵 I ordered one of the days, breakfast which consisted of eggs, bread and some old fruits. The fruit tasted like it was cut already yesterday and put in the fridge for the night. Asked for extra milk in my coffee, got like 10 ml of "extra" milk. It was a joke. We tried the pizza, which was very small compared with the price. When we got to Vientiane and ate at fancies places, we realized we have been scammed with the prices of the restaurant here. We rented bikes for 30 000 kip/ day which was fine, but to be honest you find cheaper deals, like 15 000 kip, in the other side of the island. 😐

Verified reviewVery nice place if you just want to relax away from the main village. It’s located on the very south of an island close to the bridge leading to the other island. Bicycle rentals available, laundry service available. All good overall.
thanks so much 🙏

Verified reviewWe enjoyed the quietness of this part of the island and the view from the hammock.
It's quite far from the nice bars and restaurants in low season.

Verified reviewYou get what you pay for. It’s cheap so you can’t expect a lot. The rooms were relatively ok for the price but a fan room was just too hot for us. It’s also quite far from the pier .. at least a 45 minute walk however the positive side to that is you’re right next to the opposite island.
Bathroom had no secure roof so lots of bugs but wasn’t expecting anything glamorous
thanks 😊

Verified reviewWiFi worked Near the nice river/beach Nice restaurant just over the bridge that’s cheap
Tried to scam us with the price of the accommodation Offered us a free lift back to the port and then tried to charge us before we got on - made us walk 30 mins in the heat with our bags Room is incredibly hot and humid - fly net is broken and dirty Cold shower Bugs everywhere Staff wake up around 6 and are sure to let you know about it - very loud and can hear them shouting and cleaning (very disturbing sounds when they wash themselves) Power sockets barely worked had to move around constantly Staff were very rude and mostly concerned about money Food in cafe wasn’t very good value for money
I'm sorry. I'm not a bad seller. We do everything according to the rules. I understand that you buy a ticket to Pakse with me. #Everyone buys a ticket with me. I'm responsible for the bus, boat, tuk-tuk. I'm in charge of everything you want. The weather is hot. It's the same everywhere because there's no air-conditioning. There's no air-conditioning. There's no price. There's no cheating. Everyone's polite. Everyone who comes here is not like you. Room 1: 7$ = 150. There's no one like you. If everyone comes, it's worth a bomb. Verified reviewWe loved that the bungalows were at the less busy end of Don Det near the old French bridge. It’s a 2 minute walk to the bridge where you can see epic sunrises and sunsets! You can also access Don Khon very easily from the bridge. Bungalows are very simple but have everything you need for a stay on Don Det. They are very good value and mama has everything you need on offer - bicycle hire, laundry, tuk tuk and restaurant for a convenient breakfast.
There was a small mixup between our laundry and someone else’s so recommend checking your items when you receive them back.
thanks 😊 for everything

Verified reviewWe loved staying in this simple bungalow on the quiet side of Don Det. We rented bikes every day from the owner for 20,000 kip. Laundry is cheap and fast. We thought we would struggle with just a fan but this wasn’t the case at all, especially since it gets quite cool at night.
thanks 😊

Nobody speaks English, but when it's about money, they will always find a way to let you pay for their expensive and bad food. If you are looking for a place where relax, it's NOT HERE. The family lives close to the bungalow, so this means you will always be woken up by them and their babies screaming and yelling most of the time. At 5am, they are awake starting to do their business, then you have to be awake too. There are no chances to sleep longer. The conditions of the accommodation are poor, and they have never been clean properly for ages. For the toilet, well, be ready to share it with rats. The black things in the pictures are their poop both in bathroom and bedroom floors. Even trying to talk with them about this was useless, or they don't understand or they just pretend not to. See pictures and just give your money to nicer people and better guesthouse.
I have to apologize a lot. We try to do our best. The mouse is not there every day because every time. We have to apologize for having to come to this kind of thing. Because the guests leave, we clean it well. Accept that our house is built because of the children.

Verified reviewMama is wonderful! She is really careful and accommodating. I will miss her! The guesthouse is near the bridge going to Don Khone so you can explore both islands with the bikes you can rent for really cheap in Tavendang. The food they offer is amazing!!! Try the pizza! The family is so sweet and the hammock so nice to lie in. I would definitely recommend. Nice view also! I will come back :)
