How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores weโve received and divide that total by the number of review scores weโve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate โsubscoresโ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so thereโs no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didnโt actually stay there. To edit a review youโve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we wonโt display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once theyโre 36 months old โ or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether itโs just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when weโve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please donโt include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.comโs services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe property and location are truly incredible! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning ocean views that stretched as far as the eye could see. The highlight for us was the almost private beach right next to the property, offering a peaceful and serene spot to relax, swim, or just soak up the beauty of the surroundings.
This was by far the most expensive place we stayed in Sri Lanka, and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing. After so many incredible experiences in Sri Lanka, where we were warmly welcomed into local homes and hotels, this stay fell short. The biggest letdown was the lack of staff presence. We didnโt feel looked after at allโthere was very little interaction, and when we did need assistance, it felt like the staff was hardly around. For a place that promotes its hospitality so much, it was a real disappointment. The breakfast, which was a highlight for us at other places, was also underwhelming. Considering how much the place emphasises its food on social media, we expected much more. It didnโt live up to the expectations, especially given the price we paid. While the location and the property were beautiful, the lack of care and attention from the staff left us feeling less than satisfied. We had hoped for a more memorable experience, but unfortunately, this one didnโt match up to the incredible hospitality we experienced elsewhere in Sri Lanka.

Verified reviewThe location was really good, being right on the beach. It felt personal with only 2 rooms at the facility, and the staff were great. (Being a smaller operations, don't expect 24/7 services, which was ok for us).
It was a bit warmer in the room than I would have like (even with AC and fan on overnight). Due to the time of year, some of the food and drink options were not available that we had been looking forward to.

We stayed in the Beach Suite for three nights - calling it a โhotelโ is a generous overstatement. What we experienced was closer to an under-managed guesthouse which lacked basic hotel services such as a concierge or housekeeping, and riddled with issues such as poor hygiene and completely unacceptable safety hazards. The most alarming part of our stay was the electric socket from the kettle overheating on its own and catching alight โ a potentially life-threatening situation, had we not been in the room to catch it in time - photos attached. We immediately unplugged it and informed the staff. Shockingly, there was no apology, no urgency, and absolutely no concern from the staff member, who casually said he would replace the kettle. We followed up three times, only to be met with vague responses like โgive us some time.โ The replacement kettle never came. Even worse, no one from management ever addressed the incident or offered any kind of apology or explanation. The room itself was in poor condition from the start. There was no daily house-keeping service offered which we were surprised by โ no cleaning, no bed-making, nothing. The towels and duvet were stained and had visible rips when we checked-in. The exterior doors did not close properly, allowing lizards, ants, and cockroaches to get into the room regularly. The โserviceโ is practically non-existent. The hotel appears to be run by a small team of three staff members who unfortunately seemed unable to handle even the most basic guest requests โ including booking a taxi. On the morning of our checkout, we asked one staff member to book us a taxi and ended up waiting 45 minutes before giving up and booking one ourselves. That level of incompetence is genuinely astonishing and the response to each of our request was a shrug - as if it was outside of their parameter. Breakfast is disappointing and requires you to pre-select your meal the night before and I still had food poisoning after eating here.

Verified review1. Location and setting: The location is unbeatable, with beautiful beach views and an island you can actually swim to. It adds something special to the whole experience. 2. Room comfort: We stayed in the Rock Suite with a sea view. The room was really spacious, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom view was one of the best Iโve seen. 3. Friendly staff: The staff were genuinely warm and attentive, making us feel welcome from start to finish. A big thank you to Aslam, Jenson, and the team for going above and beyond. 4. Breakfast quality: Breakfast was a highlight, even in the off-season when the menu was a bit shorter. Every dish was well-prepared and delicious. 5. Thoughtful extras: The hotel really thinks of everything. They offered great activity recommendations, arranged transport when needed, and provided yoga mats, beach towels, and other extras on request.
1. Room maintenance: Overall, the property is well-kept, but we noticed a few minor things, like some mold and corrosion in the bathroom and a bit of dust on the outdoor sunbeds. Small details, but they could use a touch-up. 2. Lunch and dinner quality: While breakfast was fantastic, some of the other meals (especially supper and desserts) tasted a bit stale. We shared this feedback, and the team was very open to itโhopefully, itโll be improved soon. 3. Wi-Fi stability: The Wi-Fi was spotty at times, which might not matter for everyone, but we were working remotely and needed a steady connection. Aslam was quick to help when we mentioned it, though.

Facility had issues with the electricity. The generator which was there at premises was not operational which made staying inside the room a bit uncomfortable with no electricity.

Verified reviewThe property (Rock Suite) has a great view and overlooks a pristine beach. The bathrooms are beautiful and the food is great! The staff is friendly and helpful.
No privacy in the bathrooms. They are built so beautifully but you canโt use it without the blinds (Rock Suite). The Beach Suite is too close to the main road and is not at all peaceful, you can constantly hear the sound of traffic. The tub on the balcony of the Beach Suite is an absolute farce because thereโs no way anyone can use it without the whole world watching you. While parts of the room are beautiful there are some parts which could definitely have been curated better. About 60% of the room has been done up to feel luxe but the other 40% feels quite basic in terms of aesthetics.

Verified reviewAC was broken & WiFi didnโt work. In the middle of summer in Sri Lanka and for people travelling with limited data, this was very problematic. Food also wasnโt good and the staff needs better training. Manager was nice and responsive but in general this place needs more fine tuning before it can be worth the price.
Dear Ms Ruth, Thank you for your feedback, Yes you are right. I apologies for having some issues when you are staying with us. Since we are new property and when started functioning at once with Restaurant downstairs, we had to have several issues. But now almost we could resolve all these issues. Regarding the food, Since we are managing both properties Abode Villa and Abode by the beach, we had two chef and one helper for both properties. But this was not worked for us. However we have in placed few more staffs for kitchen as well. Hope we can host better next time. Thanks Aslam
