How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property is stunningly beautiful, clean and new. The pool is wonderful and you are right on the beach which is perfect for swimming. We stayed in a beautiful suite that was spacious and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the food served by the property did not disappoint. It is easy to get around with the Pick Me app to order Tuktuks. We discovered a wonderful restaurant nearby called Daily Delights that was also great!

Verified reviewThe hotel is beautiful, quite far from the city center, but it has a very beautiful deserted beach. As for the rest, everything needs to be reconsidered, especially the staff, who should absolutely be replaced entirely by qualified personnel. 1. You are asked to pay for your entire stay before even seeing the room or having your welcome drink. 2. The meals are not good. You really try to enjoy them, but honestly, they are not worth the price. I ordered a curry the first evening, and it was served without rice. I ordered a salted lassi, which was mixed with vanilla, and I was charged 1,600 rupees for it! I couldn’t even drink it, it was so salty. I asked for a boiled egg at the Sri Lankan breakfast, and I was told it would be charged as an extra? I had to give up the curry just to have the egg! 30 minutes of waiting for breakfast. All their meals are frozen, from chicken to fish, everything. 3. The pool: no mattresses on the loungers, towels are not available, the bar service is poor. I asked three days in a row for coconuts to drink; they kept saying “tomorrow,” when they could have easily bought some just around the corner. 4. The beach: no sunbeds, no umbrellas, and no lifeguard. You’re on your own! 5. The room is spacious, but the air conditioning is very noisy, as is the fan. On top of that, the windows don’t have shutters, so the room never gets dark. 6. The service: nothing works properly. At check-out, I called for someone to collect my luggage, and they sent two young girls barely 18 years old. They tell you the water bottles are free, but then they charge you for them. They bother you every hour asking if you will dine at the hotel. I could keep writing at length, but I’ll stop here. In short: I really do not recommend this place!

Verified reviewGreat hotel - all what is needed - super nice big and stylish decorated rooms - very friendly staff - super nice pool and garden - direct at the beach
One small thing: when you arrive there was no help with luggage (was maybe because we were earlier) but for that price you can expect this

Verified reviewWe had an absolutely incredible stay! If we could give this place a 20 out of 10, we absolutely would. The level of luxury and personalized care we experienced here is unparalleled. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special, and their attentiveness was extraordinary. They even arranged a special seafood dinner for us last night that was absolutely delicious, and today they organized a snorkeling excursion with a boat that picked us up right at the hotel. The setting is stunning and serene, making this a truly one-of-a-kind experience. We can't recommend it highly enough!
All was good!!

Verified reviewOur stay at your hotel was truly special. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and professional — it’s clear they love what they do and do it at the highest level. We felt truly cared for every moment. The hotel itself is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully designed. We especially enjoyed the peaceful, well-kept beach and the calm, welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious — every meal felt like a treat. Thank you for creating such a warm and memorable experience. We’re leaving with full hearts and hope to return soon. With love and gratitude, Katia & Ily

A little bit solated but Nilaveli is only 10-15min tuk tuk drive away. Pool is a bit 'soupy' Be careful of debris and glass on the beach if you go walking, not the hotels fault as probaly widespread issue

Verified reviewVery good hotel for Trinkomale. Big and comfortable rooms, friendly staff. About 2 minutes walk to the beach which is a dream of introvert: there are no hotels near so it is almost empty and you can enjoy the ocean without people. However, you should understand that hotel is far away from Trinkomale (about 30-40 minutes by car ot tuk-tuk).
Unfortunately, food is not as tasty as it could be. Sometimes it takes too long to wait for breakfast. And kindly reminder for travellers: if you look for service as in Turkey or Egypt it is better to lower expectations :)

Verified reviewIt’s paradise on earth and looks way better than on the picture. Everything is super clean and neat, the beach is absolutely beautiful and wild (no bars, just the sea, the sand). The room was really pleasant and comfortable. We will come back for sure.
Nothing! Everything was perfect!

Verified reviewWe were so happy with our stay at Adaar. We were looking for somewhere to relax after a very busy few weeks and this was the perfect fit. The staff here are incredible, are always working so hard to make sure you are enjoying your stay. We had the breakfast every morning where you could choose American/continental/sri Lankan or Indian and it was always delicious with plenty of food! The accommodation is a little far out from the main centre of shops/restaurants in Nivali and Trincomalee but we rented a scooter so this wasn’t an issue and the hotel pool is so great there’s no big need to leave!

Verified reviewNew beautiful resort up the coast from Trincomale. It is situated a bit remote alone on a long beautiful beach, has a large pool and a nice garden area. The restaurant at the pool serves a large variety of delicious food. Staff is very helpful and friendly. It is the perfect spot to relax a few day at the beach or pool and enjoy the nature. The hotel is brand new, clean and very well maintained.
be aware that is is really remote up the cost, if this is what you want, it's perfect. A-la-carte food was a bit pricy for Sri Lankan terms, but it tasted good.

Verified reviewI paid slightly north of 120 usd for a night and loved it. Loved the pool. Loved the fact that they faced the Indian Ocean (no they don’t own the beach but u can access the beach front from the hotel and for that matter no one is on the beach anyways). Very welcoming staff reminding u off your meals for the next days .
Ok. I wouldn’t say these are my dislikes just some slippages I am sure they will be rectified this is a new property anyways. Shower, hmmm, water didn’t really go down the drain fast enough and there’s a pile of:/. And then there’s some little minor things on the design. Loved the room. Big, pretty, thoughtful. I turned off the lights. Cozy. And then I realised the window on top of the entrance can’t be shaded and light from the corridor was shining on my face the whole night. But otherwise I really loved it. It is a remote property by the way but that is what I liked it for
