How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewA few weeks have passed since my stay at the hotel. The emotions have settled, but the bad memories will stay with me forever. I’ll probably forget in time about the very uncomfortable, hard bed and the non-functioning WiFi (I run a business, so a reliable connection was crucial for me), along with the staff constantly pretending they were doing everything they could to fix it — those things are not that important. The one thing I will never forget, and that will remain a deeply painful memory, is the humiliation of another human being. On the first day after our arrival, I cried for an hour and a half while sitting in the hotel lobby. We arrived as a group of three. We know Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans well because in my country we’ve worked with Sri Lankan colleagues for several years. One of our co-workers, a Sri Lankan man, was visiting his family during the time of our trip. He picked us up from the airport and brought us to the hotel. The three of us had the maximum amount of luggage and many gifts for his family. We arrived at the hotel around 6 PM. WHEN THE HOTEL STAFF AND THE MANAGER SAW THAT A SRI LANKAN MAN BROUGHT US, THEY CATEGORICALLY AND IN A RUDE, AGGRESSIVE WAY FORBADE HIM FROM ENTERING OUR ROOM! I explained that we work together and that he was only picking up the gifts we brought, that he would only be in the room for a few minutes. THE OUTRAGEOUS RESPONSE I RECEIVED WAS THAT THIS MAN HAS NO RIGHT TO ENTER OUR ROOM — THAT IT'S A RULE SET BY THE HOTEL OWNER! I ask: what kind of hotel “rule” stands above basic human dignity and respect, regardless of someone’s skin color? Our friend was denied entry solely because he was Sri Lankan. It is unbelievably sad that a Sri Lankan person is humiliating another Sri Lankan in his own country. I started crying and told them I did not want to stay in a place where people are treated this way. The manager’s only response was: “Your stay is non-refundable and you will not get a single dollar back.”
The staff hides behind “guest safety,” but that’s not true. If a European person — even one not staying at the hotel — wanted to enter the room with us, they would have been allowed in without question. We clearly explained to the staff that our Sri Lankan friend just wanted to come in with us for a few minutes to pick up some gifts — and yet he was denied entry. They hide behind “tourist safety,” but that’s a lie. They don’t listen to what you say. In this hotel, what matters is the color of your skin and how much money you have. I travel a lot around the world, and this was the most humiliating experience — watching our Sri Lankan colleague being discriminated against in his own homeland. To the hotel owner: I wanted to spend a lot of money at your restaurant and spa, but after such behavior, your hotel deserves the worst possible review. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels around the world, and this is the only review I’ve ever written — carefully considered, composed with calm emotions, and fully deserved by the hotel owner. I respect every human being in life, regardless of whether they are rich or poor, what color their skin is, or where they were born.

Verified reviewEvening dinner and breakfasts were delicious. Large comfortable bedroom well equipped and particularly liked the pillow menu. No cut off times for breakfast which meant you could take brunch whenever you fancied. Whilst there is little around the hotel, it’s so peaceful through the day and Tuktuks are cheap and readily available to take you to nearby towns when you feel a change of scene required. All staff we encountered were brilliant.
Whilst breakfast was delicious, there was no variation throughout our stay. Hotel bar lacked atmosphere and was more like a pool bar ie OK to use for a daytime drink.

Verified reviewLocation was splendid, you have private access to a section of the beach. Lifeguards are on duty on the beach and around the pool. The staff across Aditya are so receptive, they go out of their way to make it an incredible stay for you whether you are there one night or more.
It’s not that I didn’t like anything, it would have been nice to possibly have a little more choice from the breakfast set menus. But honestly any fault Aditya, we will be back

From my pre arrival experience with Sushil and Tahrushi to my Warm and welcoming arrival experience thank you once again Sushil , sureka , Pahanami and Sushil who continued maintaining this throughout my stay beautiful and uniquely designed rooms , though I had a look at a couple of rooms (surya is outstanding yet I emphasize my stay at Rudra was very comfortable with a lot of privacy and a good view) Rooms well cleaned and attended thank you Mihera and the team in Housekeeping , Food and beverage selection has a perfect variation to meet basically everyone’s taste , Thanks to the chef and his team the presentation, taste and quality is something to be recognized service was superb very attentive spot on , Indika is a star calm controlled and very attentive he usually took care of me , Chanika , Milindu. Food top-notch . Can ask to have on beach and that was excellent . We booked an extra night after first three as didn’t want to leave and easy 2 hr drive to Colombo airport .

Verified reviewIt’s a lovely hotel. Everyone was very attentive to make us feel comfortable. Beach is secluded and beautiful. Our room - Surya Suite - was very spacious and had a big terrace with jacuzzi and a separate balcony, both with ocean view. Sofa in the living room is extremely comfortable. Spa is good, food is delicious. Overall we liked our stay.
The bathroom had an open area to the outside. While it may sound like a tropic theme, toilet and wash basin got very hot and humid and there were insects due to open area. Also, ventilation to toilet was opening to staff rest area and we could hear their talking while using bathroom.
