How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFantastic location and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We stayed for three nights at the end of a hectic tour of Sri Lanka and were able to relax. The location is a somewhat remote and the lagoon is not suitable for swimming but there was a complimentary paddle board and kayak and you could also arrange a boat to a beach and mangrove tour.
Very happy with the stay. Nothing to fault.

Verified reviewAbsolutely amazing place! The most friendly and attentive owners and staff we've ever experienced! They treated us with a perfect balance between giving us privacy and space to relax while being attentive to our needs, felt like home in the best way! Gorgeous location and facilities in peaceful surroundings, delicious local food, great yoga on the jetty. Great place for kitesurfing, the free boat transfer as well as the paid trips to different kite spots with the place best door works smoothly. We were only supposed to stay here 5 nights, but have decided to come back for an extra 4 nights at the end of our trip. The highest of reccomendatons from us! Do NOT miss out on this slice of paradise!

Verified reviewOur stay at Anawasal Resort in Kalpitiya was truly unforgettable. This charming, nature-inspired resort offers a perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and authentic Sri Lankan hospitality. The resort is located right at a stunning lagoon, providing a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. While the long, sandy beaches are about a 20-minute drive away, getting there is easy with a driver arranged by the resort, as ride-hailing apps like PickMe don’t always work in the area. The beaches are untouched, with no hotels around, making them perfect for a quiet swim or a long, peaceful walk. If you visit in March, the weather is hot and humid, with calm waves ideal for swimming. However, from December to February, this area is a famous destination for kite surfers and surfers. One of the highlights of our stay was the free access to stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks, allowing us to explore the lagoon in the early morning or late afternoon when the temperature was cooler. The resort also offers bicycles for rent for free, making it easy to explore the surroundings at your own pace. The small pool in the garden was another unique feature. The ground around the pool is covered in soft sand, so you can walk barefoot, giving a real island vibe to the experience. It’s a perfect spot to cool off and relax after a day of activities. We stayed in a beautifully designed cottage that was both clean and comfortable, equipped with air conditioning to ensure a restful sleep. The most unforgettable part of our accommodation was the outdoor shower under the palm trees. At first, I was a little unsure about showering outside, but the lighting, privacy, and clean and natúral temperature water made it an incredible experience—one of the best showers I’ve ever had, right under the open sky! Since the resort is surrounded by nature, you’ll hear the sounds of various animals, making you feel as if you’re deep in the jungle.
Only the road is a bit bumpy but we took a wrong one but there is one which is good so betterr to check with owner in advance. However, this is not a fault of owner but the government who should built better roads in some areas

The rooms are clean, and the outdoor bathroom is beautiful. The food was always delicious, and Shibi and Dinesh were incredible welcoming and attentive hosts. Verified reviewThe property is stunning. The owners Dinesh and Shibi share their home with travellers and make them feel more than welcome, caring for your every need and making sure you have a wonderful time. I unfortunately was sick when I was there so I couldn't make use of the bicycles and kayaks, but I also enjoyed my time resting with a stunning view over the lagoon. The food is fresh and delicious, always made from scratch. Definitely recommend to stay at Anawasal!

Verified reviewWe loved our stay in Anawasal, which concluded our 6-week journey around Sri Lanka. Our bungalow, overlooking the lagoon was cosy and comfortable. The morning yoga lesoons with Shiby were invigorating and energising, followed by a huge, delicious home-made breakfast. Dinners, consisting of Sri Lankan seafood specialties were a treat as well. The thing that makes Anawasal special, however are definitely the people, the people we met there, as well as the lovely couple who runs it and their wonderful staff. They all create an ambiance, that makes Anawasal a truly special spot in Kalipitya to unwind or experience adventure. Loved seeing the dolphins too. Such an unforgettable experience!

Verified reviewWe had the most incredible stay at Anawasal in Kalpitiya! From the moment we arrived, it felt like a little slice of paradise. The atmosphere was so peaceful, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms were gorgeous – spacious, clean, and with such a lovely rustic vibe that really makes you feel close to nature. Waking up to those views was just amazing. We loved how many activities there were to choose from. Kitesurfing was a definite highlight – the instructors were fantastic and made the whole experience so much fun. The yoga classes were also such a great way to relax and unwind after an active day. And the food – wow! Every meal was packed with fresh, local ingredients and full of flavor. They were so accommodating with dietary preferences too, which made everything so easy. What really stood out to us was how much they care about sustainability and supporting the local community. It’s not just a beautiful place to stay; it feels like you’re part of something meaningful. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’re looking for a unique, relaxing, and adventure-filled getaway, we can’t recommend Anawasal enough!
It's perfect. You also have Rascals next door if you want to experience something different for a little while. So can't say a single negative.

Verified reviewWe had a really nice stay at Anawasal ! The hotel is a bit outside of the next city in a calm Palmforest ride next to the Lagoon. The location is beautifully build and a great place to calm down and relax for a couple of days. The hotel also serves food, which we had every night and which was delicious! In addition, the staff and the owners were very kind and really made our stay special.
The matrasses were a bit too hard for our taste :) except for that, everything was great!

Verified reviewLovely place located in a secluded area of Kalpitiya - it's a quiet place, 100% positive vibes, and perfect place to chill. Rooms were spacious enough, beds were comfortable, and our hosts were so kind and always ready to help. Food was great, especially the Sri Lankan dinner that they prepare for the guests. It's also possible to book a yoga session or a massage, as well as a boat tour of the lagoon, and they have a kite surf school nearby if that's your thing!
Everything was perfect!
