Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsBoth room and general areas need maintenance. (Pool Deck worn, broken/ rusted handrails, clumsy paint jobs to cover repairs, etc) Given 300€/ night this is sub par. Breakfast is okay, but nothing spectacular. Our next hotel at less than 100€ / night delivered much better options
Private pool, very tranquil environment, luxurious grounds, good support from staff. Spacious rooms

IsraelThe location is ~20 minutes from Arugam Bay where there’s surfing and other services. It cost 2,500 rupees each way by Tuktuk. We rented one and drove it ourselves for the flexibility and since we found ourselves going to Arugam Bay twice a day. There’s also no spa or yoga classes at the hotel and it’s not walking distance to any restaurants or other relevant places. The hotel photos seem outdated. The place is nice and we liked it a lot but it doesn’t look as nice as in the photos (maybe looked like this in the past but now need some investment in maintenance).
Very nice room. We stayed for 5 nights in the room with the pool which was great! The large pool is also very nice and the hotel staff is very friendly.

AustraliaIt’s a bit out of the way, but like I said, rent some wheels and it’s not a big deal.
Beautiful villas surrounded by lush gardens, with and amazing pool. It’s a bit out of the way, so you should consider hiring wheels, but very calm and serene once you are there.

Sri LankaWhat truly set Aprota Villas apart was the exceptional service. The staff and chefs went above and beyond to accommodate my requests, adding a personal touch to our stay. Whether it was cycling around Arugam Bay or lounging by the outdoor swimming pool, every moment at Aprota Villas was a testament to their commitment to guest satisfaction. My Wife and I truly enjoyed our stay .

IsraelAlthough the team tried and made an effort to make us as satisfied as possible, including preparing dishes that are not on the menu, unfortunately the food was not good enough
The hotel staff was exceptional and Mohammed the manager answered all our requests, the pool is amazing and the place is clean and quiet, although not in the city center but we arrived after a few days in the center so we got the peace we were hoping for

AustraliaThe location. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere, there’s no surf at whiskey point (apparently hasn’t been working for a few seasons), no other restaurants, you can’t swim at the beach due to coastal erosion (it wasn’t any stronger than our local beach in Australia but even as confident swimmers we didn’t get in). The western food was not good but just order Sri Lankan as that was good. It’s very expensive to get a Tuk into town, the price seems fair it’s just that it’s so far. We knew it was off the track but expected there to still be local rotti stops or something at whisky point but you essentially couldn’t leave Aprota unless you go into Pothuvil or a bay proper. It wasn’t an issue for us as I had data but you can only communicate with staff via WhatsApp and when wifi is down due to rain this could prove difficult. It’s a shame about the location because it is a lovely place and the staff were so attentive and friendly, particularly Lasitha our food and beverage manager and Milhan.
Staff were very helpful but seemed quite awkward. I think this was because we were seemingly the only guests. The Sri Lankan food options were tasty. The wifi, when it worked, was good. However, it was intermittent during our stay (can’t be helped as the weather was to blame). The room was spacious and the plunge pool was clean. Strong and hot showers! Milhan was exceptional. Outstanding customer service. He greeted us with a delicious watermelon welcome drink and a moist towel to cool off after the 8 hour drive. Anything I needed was provided and he was checking in daily. We had to leave early due to a medical issue and Milhan showed genuine compassion and concern for our welfare.

AustraliaWe had a fantastic stay at Aprota Villas during our recent trip to Arugam Bay. From start to finish, our experience was exceptional. We stayed in a spacious and beautifully designed Chalet that was both elegant and comfortable. The excellent service was complemented by quality food, which was a highlight of our stay. Priyantha and his team were excellent in providing an exceptional service. We relied on the WiFi throughout our stay and were impressed by how fast and consistent it was from all areas of the property. The property itself is stunning—a true beachfront haven with gorgeous main swimming pool set within lovely, manicured gardens. It’s the ideal choice for anyone seeking a luxurious and peaceful holiday in a breathtaking environment in Arugam Bay. We cannot recommend Aprota Villas highly enough!

United KingdomWe feel there is a huge misrepresentation here and false advertisement of the hotel, the location, conditions & facilities and wouldn’t recommend staying here. We could speak endlessly about the negative experience we had here, but to cover the main points, It’s really run down and has not been maintained over the years meaning that the hotel is in desperate need of repair. It’s also shown for sale online, so our opinion is that it felt like maybe the hotel was just coasting by to get the sale sorted while not investing any money. Ordinarily this wouldn’t have phased us but the hotel is claiming to be a luxury 5 star resort which in our opinion it 100% isn’t . The hotel itself is a long way away from Arugam bay (25 mins in a Tuk Tuk) so it’s super secluded and there are no surf spots near by which was a huge disappointment . I walked to Potuvil point a few times which takes roughly an hour and only works rarely when there is a huge swell . Also on a similar note Whisky point (15 mins away) hasn’t worked for around 6 years we were informed by local guides . The hotel higher management team here are useless and were really rude to us , unwelcoming and very aggressive when we raised our complaints to them on days one and two. On the first day when we arrived in the afternoon, we stated that we were not happy with the safety of the resort and that we would like to leave the hotel offering to pay for everything we had used and for the portion of the stay that we had taken already as long as we could get a balance refund as we just wanted to leave having had the worst experience on arrival and also the most tragic meal on day one . When I made the reservation, I spoke to the Aprota Villas via Messages and double-checked that they could cater for my wife’s gluten-free allergy. They confirmed that they could and when we arrived nobody really understood what we were talking about and in the end she was offered an egg or some yoghurt for breakfast .
Nothing in all honesty which is really sad as we had such high hopes for this resort - The kitchen staff and front of house were friendly and that was all that I can say as a positive .

Sri LankaNothing.
Priyantha, the Chef, and the entire team provided exemplary service, ensuring our short stay was both comfortable and pleasant. The cuisine was of a high standard, with the Sri Lankan breakfast standing out as one of the finest we have experienced recently, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. WiFi connectivity was reliable in both guest rooms and common areas, supporting uninterrupted access to streaming services such as Netflix and Youtube. While the hotel is situated at some distance from central Arugam Bay, Priyantha facilitated an efficient transfer arrangement, making travel to and from Arugam Bay both convenient and cost-effective. We anticipate returning for a longer stay before the season concludes.

United KingdomAfter 2 weeks in Sri Lanka we wanted a luxury one night stay somewhere special, and we certainly got that. The place is beautiful and well kept. The staff are very friendly and professional. The food was fantastic and the chefs clearly know what they are doing. We stayed in a bungalow with your own small private pool, and the bed was so comfortable. It was so nice to have some peace and quiet. Thank you all for a wonderful day and evening. Highly recommend!

SingaporeThe location was far from the main stretch with limited options to get to and from the hotel. The main grounds were overgrown and badly maintained. It felt like a deserted hotel -- we did not see a single other guest while we were there. As we were leaving for dinner on the first night, we stumbled upon a dead bird in the middle of the path. Would not stay here again.
The room was spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We didn't have towels..needed to ask few times No extra blanket for third person in room. No blanket! Slept with cover bed. Pool was not clean. Nobody there. No service. Dirt all over. Rooms not clean defiantly for this kind of price It is so far from arugambay, one can expect tuk tuk service.. they charge double. Service team don't know English... so get wrong order of drinks. And last..lots of flies in breakfast. Big mistake
