How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewOur Sri Lankan tour ended up in Anuradhapura and we couldn’t choose a better place to stay. We only spent one night but Bas and his family have been so welcoming and we didn’t want to leave. The room was really nice and spotless; for the first time we didn’t have to bother using the mosquito net as the window was perfectly closed and the bathroom door as well, so no mosquito could get inside. We had a good sleep, the mattress was very comfortable and the location was noise free. As we only had the afternoon to explore the old city Bas immediately made himself available with his tuk tuk, to show us some unmissable sights, despite our last minute request, at a very reasonable price. He is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, we learnt so much about history, culture and much more. He also drove us to pick up some food and dropped us at the train station in the early morning, we have really appreciated that. If you are in Anuradhapura do not hesitate booking here!

Verified reviewLocation is good as enough room for parking and some play area for the kids. Many amenities were there including iron, facilities to make tea, lobby etc.
The rooms were all upstairs and for elderly people it would feel troubled.

Verified reviewWe liked just everything. The people are so friendly and the host is just adorable. It was lovely to talk to him. He definitely has a good heart and wants to make your stay as good as possible. The rooms have a mosquito net and air conditioner and a fan. Everything worked just fine. He also recommended us a place to eat and then just quickly drove us there. He is so kind. There is nothing I can say against it.

Verified reviewWe liked being able to use shared facilities such as a kettle and outdoor table. The staff were so kind and helpful! The welcome drink and snack were absolutely delicious. The host allowed us to put some things in their fridge as the communal fridge wasn’t working. He was really informative about the ancient city in Anuradhapura and helped us to avoid paying for the 30USD ticket. Outstanding value for the price!
We weren’t informed in advance that there was an additional air conditioning charge of 500 LKR per night, but we were happy to pay as the accommodation was already so cheap. The bed was a bit hard and the bedding could have been improved by having a duvet. Although, overall it was a great a stay!

Verified reviewWe had two very nice days at Bas Balcony. Our Host took care about us at any time. With his Tuktuk he brought us to the city, the bus station, to restaurants and did a privat temple Tour for us. He is a very kind and friendly guy and we felt very comfortable.

Verified reviewWe had an amazing stay at this property for 2 nights. The room was perfect- lovely comfortable bedroom and bathroom which were both very clean. The facilities at the property were also great providing a shared terrace and lots of space! We also arranged a tuktuk tour around the old town with the host which was great would definitely recommend! The hosts were very friendly and generous and went out their way to ensure we had an easy and relaxed stay. Definitely stay here if visiting Anuradhapura!

On the Booking.com there is a wrong adress. You need to use the directions from Google Maps.

Verified reviewIt is located at a quiet neighbourhood, the garden is very nice. Mr Bas and his family are very welcoming. Our room is clean, we especially like the wall lamp which the brightness can be adjusted. We haven’t seen it anywhere in Sri Lanka so far. The was a small problem during our stay, Mr Bas reacted very fast and took care of it quickly. He cares about his guests.
We would be happier if they would use some natural incense for the room and bathroom to smell good than chemical ones.
